5 out of 5 eggsBest SSD for the price?

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s 1x nm Samsung Toggle DDR 2.0 3-Bit MLC NAND Flash Memory (400Mbps) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast, Really Fast, Plenty of space and the best priced SSD on the market for its speed and space. Windows loads in like 5-8 secs and thats mostly my motherboard startup. Games load silently and fast.

Cons: I guess the only con is that its weighs as much as a USB stick, but thats not really a con to most people.

Other Thoughts: When I decided to build me a new pc, I new right away id get a SSD, I always hated how you could hear a normal HDD struggle to load stuff. Now with a SSD the noise is gone and it never buckles under load. If your on the fence about a SSD don't be, may be 3x the price of a normal 1tb drive its still worth it for the quickness you get over a slow 7200rpm drive.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing SSD so far.

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s 1x nm Samsung Toggle DDR 2.0 3-Bit MLC NAND Flash Memory (400Mbps) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: The SSD is amazingly fast compared to my WD 1TB 7200RPM 64mb cache HDD. It's even better now that they're combined so I can throw all my important programs onto the SSD and all my personal data on the HDD.

Also got it on sale for about $134.
I was hesitant at first to pay the extra $40 or something to buy one from Samsung because other retailers sell for less. But after looking up its specs and benchmarks the extra bit was worth it.

Cons: The instructions that came with it are useless for a PC user. But it is just a hard drive so anyone should be able to figure out the basics.

Other Thoughts: At first I mirrored my HDD to my SSD. DO NOT DO THAT. I noticed the read/write was under 200mb/s. Also TRIM could not be enabled (this is very important) and my SSD was stuck in IDE mode. So after a couple hours of tinkering I decided I would just format the SSD and do a clean install. Now I have no problems and everything is fast as ever.

5 out of 5 eggsThird 840 Evo

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s 1x nm Samsung Toggle DDR 2.0 3-Bit MLC NAND Flash Memory (400Mbps) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Increases the boot time.
Increases the launch time of your programs

You will definitely see the difference

Cons: I wish I could face it towards the inside of the case so I could read Samsung upright versus upside down.

Not really a con, but it is a concern for aesthetics of system buidlers.
Corsair 750d is the case.

Other Thoughts: I haven't had a chance to test the intel 730 or the 840 pros against this series.

However for a budget performance impact. You can't go wrong with Samsung.

3 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s 1x nm Samsung Toggle DDR 2.0 3-Bit MLC NAND Flash Memory (400Mbps) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: -Comes with all the software you need
-Large enough to hold Windows 8 and all your programs
-Fast boot times

Cons: -No mounting bracket
-No SATA cord
-Not able to install windows straight from box as far as I know
-Vague Instructions

Other Thoughts: So I gave this a average because the instruction included really did not help me setup my new system, though I suppose they really are not meant to though. It is a good drive if you have an existing system but if you are starting from scratch, installing windows 8.1 from a disk you will run into problems. Do not forget SATA cable with your purchase. SATA cables are difficult to find except online so make sure you have a spare, mounting brackets are pretty much exclusively online so make sure you bet one of those as well, or just buy some velcro at any store and velcro it in. I realize it was mostly user and not the actual drive but seriously when you ask for support or try to find support on how to install windows on to this thing, nobody seems to have an answer. Except you just copy over your system.

I ended up just installing windows to my HDD then using the software included to mitigate it to the SSD, then blow away my HDD drive. It was way to many steps. I had to go into the bios far to many times, to fix boot order. As I was stupid thought I had extra SATA cords laying around but did not I had to first install from disk to HDD then unplug my DVD drive, my only other SATA cord, plug in my SSD, use Samsungs Mitigate software, then go back to the bios change the boot sequence, blow away Windows on HDD.

I think a better way of doing it might have been boot from disk, and then once in you can then change the format of the SSD.

Dont know if anyone else had my problems but I got it to work but it took me a couple of hours. Everything works pretty well now and I am happy I bought this.

I would recommend this and buy it again.

5 out of 5 eggsZoom!

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s 1x nm Samsung Toggle DDR 2.0 3-Bit MLC NAND Flash Memory (400Mbps) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Impressive. The speed is as advertised in streaming. I replaced a friend's desktop with PCBSD and his new rig now has a lot of components of the highest quality and speed. I got this on sale at $139. I cannot believe the boot speed and how quick he can login. Launching things is as quick as the CPU and load them.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: People are kind of storage crazy these days.... The machine this is in replaced one with a 750GB drive....using about 50GB.... The SSD was a no brainer at that point.

5 out of 5 eggsHappy with my purchase

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s 1x nm Samsung Toggle DDR 2.0 3-Bit MLC NAND Flash Memory (400Mbps) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: - Fast load times
- Small form factor (fits anywhere)
- Amazing price for a SSD.

Cons: - You get the hard drive... nothing more.
Be sure to have a spare SATA cable beforehand.

- Doesn't come with a bracket to slide it into a drive bay.
Honestly, not that much of a con as it is pretty easy to tuck it out of sight.

Other Thoughts: These things are well worth the hype. SSD are not cheap, but this was definitely an affordable upgrade that did wonders for my aging rig. With a couple of internal drives I use to store much of my movies and music, 250GB is a pretty reasonable size for just programs and OS.

I play BF4 on some old hardware -- even my CM Storm Scout case isn't even available on newegg anymore and I rather not say much more than my EVGA 270 GTX struggles and my CPU... 2.6Ghz just doesn't do it anymore.

Map load times on my 7200rpm HHD: I could use the restroom, make some food, read a book, and when I sat down would still enjoy a minute of a loading screen with bright orange streaks across my screen in typical battlefield fashion. (never truly timed it, but I know it was over 3 minutes to be completely honest)

This SSD loads at a fraction of the time: (25 seconds if I just load up the game, even faster for the next map).

It still amazes me how big of a change it really was. Enough to make me happy until my next newegg shipment comes in and I give my rig the much needed upgrades it has long needed,

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing!

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s 1x nm Samsung Toggle DDR 2.0 3-Bit MLC NAND Flash Memory (400Mbps) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: As soon as I took it out of the box, it was incredibly light. Felt like it weighed the same as a think piece of plastic, but it was blazing fast once installed. It boosted up my windows rating from 5.9 to 6.4. And my hard drive went to the max window index of 7.9. Windows 7 loaded in about 5-8 seconds and was ready for work.

Cons: Sooo light, some people might love that though. Kinda felt cheap as well.

5 out of 5 eggsSamsung 840 EVO Installed in Older Laptop

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s 1x nm Samsung Toggle DDR 2.0 3-Bit MLC NAND Flash Memory (400Mbps) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Significant performance increase even with a SATA II connection.
Relative ease of hdd cloning and sdd installation.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Replaced a 500 Gb HDD with a 250 Gb Samsung 840 EVO on a Dell XPS 1645 laptop. Researched installation on web and cleaned and defraged HDD first prior to cloning. Included cloning software worked well.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat hard drive.

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s 1x nm Samsung Toggle DDR 2.0 3-Bit MLC NAND Flash Memory (400Mbps) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: This was a solid performing hard drive for a good value.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I was really impressed at how the drive performed in real world tasks - gaming, software developing, random file access. Definitely a good drive for the money.
