1 out of 5 eggsDied after 9 months

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s 1x nm Samsung Toggle DDR 2.0 3-Bit MLC NAND Flash Memory (400Mbps) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast when it worked, Magician software

Cons: firmware, reliability

Other Thoughts: Purchased this in Sept 2014, Died a week ago, file I/O errors, had the latest firmware, Samsung Magician says the drive is Good and Health is fine, but windows blue screens 0x0000007e. cloned it to a Seagate 250GB Notebook drive and windows boots fine. Formatted the SSD and tried to clone back to SSD but clone failed with I/O errors could not mount the volume. Have ordered a SanDisk Ultra II 250 and will clone to it.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s 1x nm Samsung Toggle DDR 2.0 3-Bit MLC NAND Flash Memory (400Mbps) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I've been using this SSD as my OS drive for almost 2 years in my gaming rig. Super fast read and write times, I'm getting about a 7 second startup and a 4 second shutdown with my Windows 8 setup. It's definitely worth moving from older hard disk drives to the new flash solid state drives. The Samsung EVO series has always been top of the line when it comes to SSDs, I highly recommend.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Samsung's tech is some of the best in the SSD world, I highly recommend the EVO series.

4 out of 5 eggshttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=20-147-248

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s 1x nm Samsung Toggle DDR 2.0 3-Bit MLC NAND Flash Memory (400Mbps) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: This drive has been absolutely fantastic. I can boot my computer from bios to loading programs in about 10-15 seconds (and that's only because I have to type in a password).
This drive has really been great while it has worked.

Cons: Ok. Where to begin?
Well, my computer froze up once a day ago and since then it has been downhill.
I have owned this drive for about 2 1/2 years and this is the first time I've seen it acting up. I should note, I have my OS running off of this but (thank Cthulhu ) by sheer luck and stupidity on my part I'm using a HDD to boot my computer. This saved me when, over the course of the last two days, my SSD performance has competely gone down hill and will constantly stop working shortly after booting (if it gets that far.) This has made it really hard but not impossible to pull off the data I absolutely wanted to save but NOT impossible.
If I were to say anything truly negative about this SSD it would be the life of the drive is just too short for the cost.

Other Thoughts: This won't stop me from ordering another though. I will no doubt get mine replaced (as it is within the 3 year warranty). I will certainly buy a new one at some point but I will no doubt go for one of the Pro series as they have a longer warranty of up to 5 years.
This has also lead me to put one rule into effect when using SSDs and that is to think about replacing them when they get to about 2/3 of their lifespan. Had I done that, I probably wouldn't be having this issue. It still is a shame though that there were no warning signs it was failing.. only working fine one minute and then pushing daisies the next.

OS drive only. Stay AWAY

2 out of 5 eggsWorks Great, Until it Dosen't

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s 1x nm Samsung Toggle DDR 2.0 3-Bit MLC NAND Flash Memory (400Mbps) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Speed, ease of installation, good diagnostic tools

Cons: Dies one month after warranty expires.

Other Thoughts: I have never had a major component barely last a year on me; I still have 15 year old SCSI drives that work. I thought Samsung built a reliable drive...not so much.

Pros: Yup. This is the one you want for OS boot. From power on to log-in screen - 9 seconds on Win 8.1 Pro.

Cons: It doesn't make breakfast.

3 out of 5 eggsFailed in 6 month

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s 1x nm Samsung Toggle DDR 2.0 3-Bit MLC NAND Flash Memory (400Mbps) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast in the beginning of installation

Cons: 1) Unreliable, failed in 6 months.
2)Gradually loses performance but a Samsung speed restoration utility doesn't work in case you have those drives in RAID configuration.
Samsung Magician utility also does not recognize drives in RAID and therefore is useless.

Other Thoughts: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series though is a bit slower, is cheaper and still works without problems. Also it seems there is no performance drop on this drive.
