1 out of 5 eggsWorked GREAT, for about 1 year

Pros: Wait, I may find one.

Doubt it!

Cons: "This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE500LW 2.5" 500GB TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Notebook Bundle Kit
Pros: This arrived today at 3:30. I physically installed it by 4.40. Started W7 install, (yes, I did a fresh install, instead of copying stuff over) took me 25 minutes to get on the internet, on the new drive.

Cons: Mine doesn't cook bacon, either! Dang it!!

Other Thoughts: The install CD (DVD?) is still in it's shipping envelope. Never even tried it.

On the other hand, can that adapter be used as an external drive adapter, like for any other SSD drive?"

And, this one is dead! That above, is my post after I got this drive. Currently, it is a 3 ounce paperweight. (And, doesn't do THAT job very well!)

Samsung, ball is in YOUR court!

5 out of 5 eggsFAST and Only getting Cheaper

Pros: Fast is the only thing that can be said about this. The difference from anything spinning is crazy. Silent. Cost is finally down to less than 50 cent per gig. They also fixed the speed over time issue by a fair amount.

Cons: Not a real con but they brought out the 850 Evos right after I bought this :(

Other Thoughts: The 850's are out but still I believe the 840's will go on a pretty good sale in the next 6 months to get rid of them because the 850's use a different NAND tech.

2 out of 5 eggsShame on you Samsung

Pros: Initially, very, very fast

Cons: - severe performance degradation over time/use of less than 3 months
- subject to Samsung EVO read/write performance bug
-- firmware 'upgrade' from Samsung does not resolve issue, period
- Samsung SSD support is - to put it succinctly - garbage

Other Thoughts: With SSD technologies reaching speeds that are fast approaching (if not exceeding) the bandwidth limits of the now aging SATA III interface and mSATA and SCSI 'Ultra' not being any faster, it is starting to appear that a new interface is needed. That having been said, the current 'better' option is to use PCI-e 2.0 and up slots for SSD's. The problem here is that PCI-e SSD drives are not overly common and therefore garner added expense that is truthfully unwarranted and unnecessary.
On another note, Samsung has been especially close-lipped about the sub-par long term performance of the entire 840 line (Pro and EVO) that this performance bug affects, probably because they're too busy marketing the new 850 series. Knowing Samsung (and I do, I used to work for them) the 840 line has likely already been EOL'd (internally only; they'd never admit this to the public) and production on those units has ceased. As is always the case with Samsung, once production on a line of product has ceased, they no longer care about the actual performance or reliability of the product, merely the public perception. And Samsung, like Apple and Intel, has found that if you keep your mouth shut and pay websites to bury bad press, it will all go away. And yes, they actually do this.

5 out of 5 eggsFirst thing to upgrade if your computer is running slow

Pros: - Very fast
- Easy installation
- Data migration from old drive was super easy with the package
- Small enough to easily fit into my laptop

Cons: Had it for over 6 months and yet to have any issues. Samsung SSD's are the bees knees.

Other Thoughts: So I've had a Samsung laptop I've been using for school for the past few years. It had always ran a bit slow but was getting extremely aggravating to use. Even the videos on Netflix would get out of sync. I thought about just buying a new one but since I had good luck with my desktop when I put an SSD in it I figured I'd try switching my laptops HDD out first. After doing the data migration with Samsung software and usb cable I swapped out the drive and now it runs like a dream. The old HDD was 5200rpm which I didn't realize and now the difference is night and day. It boots up in seconds and doesn't hiccup at all.

5 out of 5 eggsMission Accomplished

Pros: Prior to installation of this drive my wife's old HP DV9700 took 79 seconds to get to the windows 7 login screen prior to installation of this drive. After installation it took 29 seconds. Cloning of old hard drive (290 GB) took just under 5 hours but it worked the first time. Office apps launch much quicker. Old laptop feels much newer.

Cons: Could cost less.

4 out of 5 eggs  Great Upgrade to Early 2010 MBP

Pros: This product is light and very easy to install on an Early 2010 13" MacBook Pro. I used Carbon Copy Cloner to get my laptop image on the SSD. Then I tested the boot times. On my old 500GB OEM drive the boot time was 1 minute 47 seconds. With the new SSD the boot time was 9 seconds. WOW!!!! I also run Parallels with a Windows 7 BootCamp partition at the same time. This SSD has significantly improved the overall speed of my MBP.

Cons: No Mac software included with SSD. Not a huge issue but it made the transition a little more complicated. This is why I took an egg off.

Other Thoughts: Why can't someone have a buy one get 5 free special! Hehe.

5 out of 5 eggsSamsung

Pros: Put this in my MacBook Pro (mid 2012)
Works flawlessly.
Have used the external usb 3 connector many times
2nd Samsung drive, very impressed.

Cons: Non So far.

Other Thoughts: Great SSD. I usually go with the Intel, but I could not pass this one up. I would definitely buy again, and may do that to upgrade my wife's sony notebook.

1 out of 5 eggsSoftware is useless; never got it work

Pros: I don't know of any since it I never got it to work.

Cons: Software will only copy the primary partition that contains the OS. Also it doesn't support dynamic disk partitions.
