5 out of 5 eggsFast

This review is from: SAMSUNG 850 Pro Series MZ-7KE128BW 2.5" 128GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: It's fast and RAPID mode is great for caching.
10 Year Warranty.
150 Terabytes Written (TBW), so 40GB read/write a day for 10 years. How can you beat that?

Cons: So far, nothing.

Other Thoughts: This is my 5th Samsung SSD. None of them have given me any trouble and none of them show any sign of degradation. We use the SSD for OS, storage and usage. We only have SSD's in our system to see how they hold up and so far they are incredible. Will be interesting how they hold up a few years down the road, that will be the real test.

From the 840 EVO 120GB to the 840 Pro 256GB and now the 850 PRO 128GB I have not noticed any real world difference in speed as they are all so fast it's really impossible to tell unless you are running a business with huge I/O's where it would be noticeable.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

This review is from: SAMSUNG 850 Pro Series MZ-7KE128BW 2.5" 128GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast. Extremely Fast.

With Rapid Mode Enabled I get Read of 2.4GByte/second and Write of 3.2GByte/second. I game that used to take 2 Minutes to load takes a total of 6 seconds now.

Cons: Small-ish. I kinda wish I would have gotten a slightly larger one, but I did not have the money to spend another $100.

Other Thoughts: The Write Speed is inconsequential. There is no way you will be using a combined write of 3.2GBytes/second unless you are copying stuff from 20 Harddrives to the SSD at the same time. (Which would fill it up extremely fast)

5 out of 5 eggsSeedy. Light. Easy to setup

This review is from: SAMSUNG 850 Pro Series MZ-7KE128BW 2.5" 128GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: -Vertical NAND technologies

-Trusted manufacturer

-Built to last

-Minimalistic design

Cons: -Pricey if you don't catch it on sale.

Other Thoughts: This SSD was built with speed in mind and a long life span to keep it up. I'm at my log-in screen for WIN 7 in under 5 seconds! A great investment for a boot drive.

5 out of 5 eggsSo glad I finally upgraded

This review is from: SAMSUNG 850 Pro Series MZ-7KE128BW 2.5" 128GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: 10 year warranty!!!! And what else can be said that has not already?! This drive is very fast!

Cons: There are no cons here

Other Thoughts: Now my PC starts up a couple seconds faster than it did with the previous SSD.

I just installed Windows, updated BIOS, and installed all system drivers with a restart between every one and I'm completely done with the setup in less than an hour! That included dust cleaning out the case, un-mounting the old drive, and installing the new drive.
G. bless Samsung! Support them to the death of Apple and beyond!

5 out of 5 eggsDay 3 and all is well

This review is from: SAMSUNG 850 Pro Series MZ-7KE128BW 2.5" 128GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Speed, price paid ($92), and reported reliability (too early to tell for this drive, though).

Cons: None to report

Other Thoughts: Replaced a 2YO Crucial M4 128gb with this Samsung 850 Pro of the same size, largely to keep the system up to a peak performance level. Reads were relatively low on the M4 and I thought the upgrade might liven things up a bit. I didn't expect monumental performance gains and didn't get them, but that's not the fault of the SSD. I wouldn't recommend replacing an SSD, even if an old one like my M4, with a current one simply for a performance gain unless you have some specific need for it. Rapid 2.0 helps a bit, too, so with my current system I should be at near bleeding-edge at this time.

If you want to upgrade from an older SSD I would suggest that you keep what you have. OTOH if you want to move from a HD I would highly recommending this SSD or a larger version, as the price is currently down to a very attractive level considering the performance realized.

I first attempted to clone the drive with a 2YO version of Acronis TrueImage Home, which has worked on all drives it's come up against in the past two years including the M4, but this 850 Pro prompted repeated "Drive needs to be initialized" even though this had already be done. I used the Samsung Migration utility (current version downloaded from their website) instead and it worked fine. I later upgraded the Acronis software and it now recognizes the Samsung SSD. I clone my boot drive every week for backup, rotating seven SATA driives in mobile racks, so having this cloning feature is important to me.

5 out of 5 eggsMy First SSD

This review is from: SAMSUNG 850 Pro Series MZ-7KE128BW 2.5" 128GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: As long as this thing keeps working the way it has I will keep at 5 stars
Speed, Physical Size, Weight.
This has worked wonderfully in my HTPC running XBMC/Steam Big Screen.

This is my OS / Install Drive
Running win7 Pro x64
The following launches on boot
XBMC
Steam
Logitech Profiler (GamePad as windows mouse / Navigator )
2 Torrent Clients
Antivirus
and the typical AMD CCC, Audio, etc
Total of 9 things load to system tray

Compared to my old WD Black 750GB 2.5"
It boots into windows 45 to 60 seconds faster even with more programs loading at launch

Cons: If this counts as a con... It convinced me to buy 2x 256GB versions of the 850 Pro for my gaming rig to replace my old loved Raptor drive

Other Thoughts: HTPC Spec
Antec ISK600 Black Mini-ITX
GIGABYTE GA-F2A88XN-WIFI A88X Motherboard
AMD APU 7850
G.SKILL 16GB DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200)
Samsung 850 Pr 128GB Primary HD
3x 4TB HD (12TB Total)

5 out of 5 eggsGood

This review is from: SAMSUNG 850 Pro Series MZ-7KE128BW 2.5" 128GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Very fast with magician rapid mode. 10 year warranty. (Need to remember to print invoice- doubt newegg history goes back that far)

Cons: Can't tell much difference between it and the 840 Pro I have. Faster than specs. Can get bigger size for considerably less from other brands, but 10 year warranty can't be beat. Fought with enabling rapid mode- always failed. Have other mechanical drives in raid that had to be unplugged to be able to enable rapid mode- then plugged them in and everything is fine. Wont find anything about this anywhere on the web though. (had same problem with the 840; but forgot about it)

Other Thoughts: See cons
