5 out of 5 eggs850 Pro SSD

This review is from: SAMSUNG 850 PRO 2.5" 256GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-7KE256BW

Pros: What a difference! Data migration took place on a USB to SATA cable that I already had. My boot up time is now halved and the previous setup even had a SanDisk Ready Cache 32G SSD installed, no match for a complete SSD setup.

Cons: No biggie but I had to DL the migration SW from Samsung which I couldn't find on the included Magician CD. Magician also doesn't allow me to enable Rapid mode citing something like Win7 or above not found and not meeting the requirements check (my PC has Win10). Am I doing something wrong and are there any tips to get this going?
Also, the instructions show only a USB cable without external power required and I had to supply external power in order for the SSD to be recognized.

Other Thoughts: The 10 year warranty on the Pro series seems to be worth the extra money over the EVO series given the 10 year vs. 3 year warranty. In 10 years though I might be dead and PC's will be worn on the wrist!

5 out of 5 eggsEasy set up

This review is from: SAMSUNG 850 PRO 2.5" 256GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-7KE256BW

Pros: -Easy install
-Small and lightweight item
-Super fast boot times!
-Cold boot to desktop in under 6 seconds using an old computer
-Just shut up and buy it, you won't regret it!

Cons: -Didn't come with a 5.5' to 3.5' adapter so be sure to buy one
-???

Other Thoughts: I definitely would buy again, price is great and the performance is better. I would gladly pay more for the same item, worth more than what your paying for! Seller beware

5 out of 5 eggsI will never go back

This review is from: SAMSUNG 850 PRO 2.5" 256GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-7KE256BW

Pros: Samsung 850 Pro SSDs are the best. Period.

Cons: Nothing, but h01y cow is it light! I thought I got sent a box of air at first.

Other Thoughts: IMO nothing can beat the Samsung 850 Pro SSDs. Samsung makes the best NAND and everyone else can go home and cry. Anyone who gives this drive a bad review just doesn't understand...

I finally feel safe enough to kill off all of my mechanical drives. Flash is the future and once you experience the speed of the 850 Pros you never want to go back.

5 out of 5 eggsPrepare for warp speed!

This review is from: SAMSUNG 850 PRO 2.5" 256GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-7KE256BW

Pros: PROS: It's fast! Windows 7 boot time is under 20 seconds (unoptimized). Fallout 4 load times are 10 seconds!

Cons: CONS: None.

Other Thoughts: Make sure to set your BIOS at AHCI to take advantage of the speed. Also, install the Magician software that comes with the SSD. It will boost the overall performance in Windows. It also helps if you have more than 8GB of ram.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good

This review is from: SAMSUNG 850 PRO 2.5" 256GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-7KE256BW

Pros: Real speedy. Makes an average computer seem much more. I used this to upgrade a low power compact computer. It made it seem more like a regular desktop.

Cons: The Data Migration software did not work.

Other Thoughts: I had to use another company's software to clone the HHD it replaced. The Magician software worked okay. With Win 10 some options are not available.

5 out of 5 eggsSamsung has another banger--best desktop SSD for any money

This review is from: SAMSUNG 850 PRO 2.5" 256GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-7KE256BW

Pros: Lightning fast, period. Easy install. After formatting and such for Windows 10, you;ll get 237 GB of actual space. Heat output not significant.

Cons: Other than not being free, nothing. I have not used the included software because I believe in fresh installs.

Other Thoughts: I am the least favorite Samsung fan around after having bad experiences with their appliances in the early 2000's. Nevertheless, I bought two Samsung 840s in 2013 for a build and an upgrade based on price and reviews at the time. I am a huge fan of these drives for desktop booting and gaming. When I saw the 850 on sale, I treated myself to a Christmas gift as I prepared to upgrade to Windows 10.

256 GB (237 actual) is an ideal amount of space to encourage discipline in keeping your boot drive uncluttered. I use traditional HDDs for documents, media, backups and old Steam games so if/when an SSD fails, I wont't lose anything important. I also do video editing on the side occasionally, and these drives are great for this--just be sure to use CCleaner or another app to clear out temp and junk files before encoding.

This is an awesome piece of tech, and prices keep dropping. Catch a good sale and by one for all of your non-business computers!

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Speeds for the great price and better wear!

This review is from: SAMSUNG 850 PRO 2.5" 256GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-7KE256BW

Pros: Excellent speed for the money. Something else Samsung did right. This SSD pretty much maxes out the SATA interface IO, can't get any faster!. The wear-leveling is better plus double the life on the new NAND technology. Samsung's migration software tool works great, even with Windows 8.1 in UEFI Boot (GUID partition ID's). First time it stopped and the nice error code actually had a description how to take care of problem and the link took me to a web page that said about the same thing but more details. The problem was that my NTFS (C:) had an issue and migration stopped about 90% and said to run chkdsk and said how to do it. It actually wanted to reboot and I let it and it set the auto-run of chkdsk /fix which then started and problem went away and completed 2nd time around! So check the partitions of the source drive first to make your migration quicker. One hour later it was done and said to install the new drive. Booted perfect. Fast has heck.

And I highly recommend using SS's migration tool, especially for UEFI enabled boot in BIOS using GUID partition IDs Get that on their site (google samsung migration tool). This will save you lots of pain using any other method.

Make your life easier and buy a USB-->SATA cable. StaraTech has a great USB3.0-->SATA3. Very fast.

Cons: Non, I should have used Samsung's migration s/w in the first place, I would have been done in an hour or so instead of screwing around with AOMEI partition/disk backup. It's a great tool like Ghost but works with the new NTFS versions starting with Windows 7. That tool works great for me since I restore occasionally on Windows 7 with non-UEFI booting but failed with Windows 8.1

BTW, All of SS's other products suck rocks big time except (TV's, Galaxy s3, s4, s5), Galaxy s6 sucks too because of no micro-SD support. Sorry I hate Samsung's general attitude, their appliances are garbage too and should be displayed in a garbage can.Stay away from them.

5 out of 5 eggswhy does it cost more than evo?

This review is from: SAMSUNG 850 PRO 2.5" 256GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-7KE256BW

Pros: higher grade build materials. the pro version uses the mlc (2bits/cell) for storage chips; less bits per cell results in less electronic wear and tear. the evo uses the tlc (3bits/cell) that means higher level of degradation over time which, is why the evo has a 5 year warranty and the pro 10 years.

Cons: its more expensive.

Other Thoughts: both the evo and pro versions have the same specs...the reason the pro costs a lot more is because it is made of higher grade materials, so it costs samsung more money to manufature this device. remember, it costs more because its higher quality not because its faster. you are really paying for craftsmanship, reliability and longevity with this drive. the pro can simply take a much harder beating than the evo which, would have died of wear and tear long before the pro shows any signs of impending failure....something to think about.
