Designed for performance enthusiasts and gamers who want to add flash and dazzle to their systems. The black PCB and silver and black heat spreader of Crucial's Ballistix Tracer modules add a stylish touch to your system. But what sets these modules apart is the LED functionality. A custom-designed circuit relays bus activity to the LEDs, allowing them to accurately reflect usage of each memory module.

This 2GB kit (1GBx2) is designed to take advantage of dual channel mode for increased performance. The PC2-6400 memory can transfer a whopping 6.4GB/s of data ensuring that the memory subsystem isn't the bottleneck that slows down the action.

Built for performance enthusiasts and case modders who want to push the performance envelope while adding flash appeal to their boxes, Ballistix Tracer memory features a black PCB, black integrated heat spreaders and one or two rows of eight "chasing" red and green LEDs atop the module, circulating in a random pattern based on memory utilization.

5 out of 5 eggsFlashy Complement

Pros: *Fast with fairly low latency
*Flashing LED complement Case Lighting

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: These really pop with a windowed PC case, the LEDs are also a good indicator of your PC workload (Flash slow when idle, Fast when gaming or rendering)

4 out of 5 eggsMissing The 2nd Roll Of Leds!

Pros: Good Memory, fast and works right out of the box. Compatible with the Asus Crosshair Motherboard and the AMD 6400+ Cpu.

Cons: They went cheap on this set and left out 8 leds on each stick. No more 16 leds per stick only 8 in one line and that took away the bling of the rotating effect of the lights. Why? I have a set of this same memory from 8 months ago and they have the 2 rows of leds on each stick.

Other Thoughts: Crucial just cutting costs I guess due to our high gas prices. LOL!

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: The flashing lights let you know it's working. Got my rebate in less than 2 months.

Cons: I have always bought Crucial memory. So this set has deeply disappointed me. It was running fine up until a week or so ago (so ran fine for 3 1/2 months). I started getting BSODs, frequently. I was able to determine that the memory was getting too hot because the BSODs didn't occur until my system had been on a while. I had to end up downclocking these to 5-5-5-18 at 1.95v running at 750MHz, just to get a relatively stable system. But even at these settings, I get the occasionally BSOD. My system has more than enough airflow (it's an Antec 900 case).

Other Thoughts: My system specs: AMD X2 5000+ Black Edition (was overclocked to 3Ghz, now have to run at 2.6GHz because of the memory), Biostar TA770 A2+, HD3850, Antec 900, 2 x Seagate 250GB harddrives, 2 x DVD RW drives.
I have ordered and received some new G Skill 4GB PC6400 memory to now use. Debating whether to bother with RMA to Crucial.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked briefly, now useless

Pros: Worked for about 6 weeks without incident.

Cons: Started generating errors for no apparent reason. memtest86+ now reports dozens of errors on both modules. Now useless.

Other Thoughts: Used in GIGABYTE GA-MA78GM-S2H with Athlon X2 5000 Black Edition CPU. Default motherboard settings decided to overclock memory to DDR2 864, fiddling required to get it in spec.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Impressive

Pros: Excellent performance and easily overclockable.
No need to raise voltage as high as competitor modules.
Never an error in memtest.

Cons: Lights can be annoying.

Other Thoughts: 4-4-4-10-40 at 1.9V. I have OCZ Platinum, Ballistix and Tracers. OCZ look the coolest, but tracers are faster and give less errors.

2 out of 5 eggsOK at first, now dead

Pros: Crucial Brand, Crucial Warranty

Cons: Failed after just 2 months at rated voltage
Silly flashing lights - ok for younger kids

Other Thoughts: Disappointed in quality of this memory - bought Crucial based on previous reputation for quality and the fact that these had a good rebate on them (which I've yet to receive).

2 out of 5 eggsIt was good at first

Pros: This memory is fast and flexible with overclocking and the lights are really a nice addition to a windowed case.

Cons: 3 out of 4 sticks failed after about 8 months. I had them running at 900 fsb while at the rated voltage and timings. Also, they get blazing hot, but I had good air cooling with an antec 900 case. Lights are probably too bright.

Other Thoughts: Just be wary. Maybe I just had some really bad luck with a certain batch or something.

3 out of 5 eggsPossible Problem

Pros: Inexpensive after rebate. Nice lights.

Cons: Used with GIGABYTE GA-MA78GM-S2H motherboard. Motherboard had to be RMA'd to Gigabyte after 2 months use. Still waiting over 3 weeks on that one.

Other Thoughts: Memory is listed as 2.2 volts. Motherboard range in manual was 1.8 - 2.1 volts. Not sure if that made a difference and caused issue with MB.
