Stay Away
- Pros: Looks GREAT. The flashing LED's really spruce up a windowed case.
- Cons: Runs hot. Slow speed. High price.
- Other Thoughts: I purchased these in the hope that the previous reviews were just overblown in some way. Unfortunately, past reviews were spot on. I received these, put them in my system and they worked absolutely GREAT. For two weeks. Then one of the chips failed... I took out the pair and continued on the other pair I had bought. One week later, one of those chips failed too. So I put the two remaining good chips (one from each set) in the PC intending to RMA replace the bad pair... Two days later, another one failed. I had no more chips left to test to see which of the two chips it was... I sent in an RMA request for these, but it appears NewEgg quit carrying them, so I got a refund. Thanks, NewEgg! It's service like this that I keep coming back for!
Bottom line: Stay away from these chips, but don't stay away from NewEgg! You just can't beat their service!
High failure rate?
- Pros: The memory looks really nice, if you have a window case it gets a lot of comments. It's also crucial, which I've never had compatibility problems with or failures with until now.
- Cons: Failed after about 6 weeks. Things just stopped working right, eventually realized it was the ram. One of the two chips went bad so I ran it on the good one for a bit until I had time to RMA it for replacement. This item is out of stock/discontinued, which leads me to wonder if the whole batch had QA problems and was replaced by the near identical looking ram/specs under a new model number.
- Other Thoughts: Instead of sending me the new model number as a replacement Newegg gave me a refund. Oh well, the new stuff was cheaper than what I paid for this stuff so it's money in my pocket. I'm just surprised they didn't realize the stuff was the same thing only with a different model number.
Red Red Shine is oh so fine!
- Pros: 24 hour stable at 520Mhz 5-5-5-15 at only 2.05 volts. The lights are pretty cool as my Zerotherm ZEN has a clear fan with no lights so it gives it a nice glow.
RED RED RED and more RED as in PCB, chrome heat spreaders and lights. They really go all crazy when you will start stressing them out.
- Cons: the accent lights are tough to see so that might be overkill. And if you don't have a case with a window then the lights do you no good.
Took awhile to get them this high. Finally figured out I needed to set the TRCF to 127.5ns in bios (all 4 of them).
- Other Thoughts: Got a great combo deal on this a few days after I got my x2 5000+ Black Edition which is running along at 260Mhz x 12. I ordered the CPU then a few days later this memory was on a combo deal with it. I contact customer service via chat and they have me the combo price, rush processing and free shipping and got them out that same day. New Egg Rocks. I made the mistake of getting my Biostar n750 from Gee-wiz and it didn't shipping then came ground from CA. Never again will I not get something from anyone from NewEgg just to save a few bucks.
