3 out of 5 eggsEarly Failure

Pros: Fast. Windows 7 boots in a fraction of the time.

Cons: Died after only 6 months of use as a boot drive. The BIOS just stopped recognizing the drive. 30 minute call to Crucial and the replacement is in the mail.

Other Thoughts: Since this was my first SSD I don't know if these things normally fail this quickly.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well

Pros: Loads windows 7 64 bit very fast. All programs run off the drive respond instantly

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Wasn't sure if I'd see a speed up in any of the games I play or not. I don't believe I am.

1 out of 5 eggsMTBF of this device is quite low

Pros: Windows 7 OS was stored on this device. Boot times were fast. I loved the performance and form factor for the device. This device was in a home theatre system. The system was used perhaps 5 hours per week. The system is about 8 months old.

Cons: This device's mean time before failure is quite low. With a useage model of 5 hours per week for the last 6 months, I received the Windows blue screen of death a number of times. I was able to recover by restoring from an earlier system restore point. This worked up until last week. The OS corruption occurred about once every 2 weeks. Last week, the system restore was unsuccessful.

Other Thoughts: I went back to a hard drive. The MTBF for this device is really bad. Beware of this device for storing an OS on it. If you do store an OS, make sure you do regular full backups.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Drive

Pros: At first, I was amazed at the small size and the weight of the box. WOW! Nice construction and materials, good job Crucial! Good customer support from a fine company, you can't go wrong with Crucial products. Great Warranty! Fit inside my new Eagle USB/ESATA enclosure! Barely gets warm during use, no moving parts, quiet (of course!)

Cons: I could not see the firmware version even under the Device Manager properties. (blank spaces next to firmware, again it is in a USB enclosure so....?). Must create a bootable CD to update firmware, con in my book but you shouldn't need to if these shipped with the 1916 firmware. USB drive not recognized when trying to update via user created bootable CD, possibly needing to be the main drive in the computer? Possible need to downgrade firmware to upgrade, depending on the version again. In my book, shoddy implementation but Crucial will work with you if needed.

Other Thoughts: Crucial, if you are reading this... please make a windows app to view/update the firmware on these drives. I have given up looking for firmware version! At the minimum, put a sticker on the drive indicating the firmware version at shipping. I am assuming this has the latest firmware.
Also, if you have 4 gigs of ram, you don't need Virtual memory unless a program you use specifically requires it or looks for it during install (Possibly something like Photoshop). Screaming fast speeds! Also, DO NOT EVER run a Defragmentation program on this drive! NOT NEEDED! You will put premature wear on your expensive drive!

5 out of 5 eggsFAST SSD!

Pros: This SSD is blazing fast! I had 3 WD HDD in RAID 0 and this thing just blew them away. I get 215MB/s read and 184MB/s write speeds in HD Tune. Windows 7 starts up in 30 seconds from the time I push the power button until I open up a program. Everything feels so much snappier and crisp. Almost no lag whatsoever.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: I like this drive so much I ordered a second one and a dedicated RAID controller to get some more speed. Eventually, I want to raid 8 of these drives together. I do a lot of video and audio editing as well as play the occassional game. Not to much of a difference in games, but I've cut my editing time by 25% and with 8 of these it should be pretty impressive.
