1 out of 5 eggsWorked great then died

This review is from: Crucial M4 CT064M4SSD2 2.5" 64GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast

Cons: Prone to disappearing from BIOS which requires excessive debugging time and possible restore and/or lost files.

Other Thoughts: DON"T BUY THIS DrIVE.

4 out of 5 eggsJust failed...:(

This review is from: Crucial M4 CT064M4SSD2 2.5" 64GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Excellent performance (while it lasted)
Fast bootup

Cons: Sudden lockups/freezes
Not recognized in BIOS anymore
Entire OS plus assorted files all lost.

Other Thoughts: Looking for a bright side, I suppose that it's good that it died during its warranty period.

2 out of 5 eggsBoth DED, DYING, after 2 years

This review is from: Crucial M4 CT064M4SSD2 2.5" 64GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: They worked for almost two years.

Cons: There is a known issues with this model that after how many hundreds or thousands of hours (I forget which), the garbage collector no longer works and what happens is you can start Windows or whatever OS you are using, but randomly (30 mins, 1 hour, whatever), the drive will no longer be recognized by BIOS. Windows does a BSOD. If you do a warm reboot, BIOS does not recognize a drive is connected. You must do a cold reboot, then BIOS sees it again and the process repeats. Crucial support confirmed with me this is a known issue. They say one option is to plug the power cable in the drive while the SATA cable is unplugged, and boot the computer up. Let it sit overnight and rinse and repeat 2-3 times, and it should resolve the issue. I tried that. Seemed to help for a day, and the issues came back. I do not recommend this junk unless you enjoy this kind of problem.

Other Thoughts: BTW, this happened to both the drives. One followed 2 months after.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid ssd

This review is from: Crucial M4 CT064M4SSD2 2.5" 64GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast and dependable when used with proper cooling, still running strong after 2 years in my gaming system.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: had purchased 2 of these units to run in raid 0 for gaming system, removed one to give too my sister for netbook after hard drive failed. after 6 months the ssd failed due to poor ventilation. (aka kids playing with net book on beds and other poor areas for cooling off electronics) Failure wasn't manufactures fault at least for that unit

2 out of 5 eggsLike others said, this drive will die

This review is from: Crucial M4 CT064M4SSD2 2.5" 64GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I loved it initially. Increased boot-up with Windows 7. I bought this SSD to replace my WD Raptor which died.

Cons: Tried to boot up computer last week and got the blue screen of death. Then the bios wouldn't recognized the drive. I tried the Crucial instructions and bios now sees drive, but Windows 7 cannot install on the drive. At this point I consider it a lost cause and ordered a new SSD from a different manufacturer.

Other Thoughts: I hope SSD technology is better and more reliable a couple years on.

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Crucial M4 CT064M4SSD2 2.5" 64GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: SSD speed, reasonable price at the time

both working after 3 years of constant use

Cons: one of them had to get updated a couple times before it stopped crashing; still seems to have an issue once in a great while

1 out of 5 eggsUPDATE TO MY PREVIOUS REVIEW

This review is from: Crucial M4 CT064M4SSD2 2.5" 64GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Was Fast while it worked

Cons: Like many other reviews that have been coming out of the woodwork about this SSD, It eventually failed on me. I was starting to experience strange freezes in windows 7. The computer would completely freeze for about 15-20 seconds then work perfectly fine until the next time I powered the computer on and it would do it again randomly. after a few days of troubleshooting and thinking it was a RAM problem I noticed this SSD was no longer being recognized in windows after the freeze occurred. I unplugged it from my machine and never had another freeze.

At the time I was using it as a small drive for video recording, but 2 weeks before I was using it as my Windows boot up drive. Glad that I purchased my two new Intel SSD's when I did.

Other Thoughts: These Freezing issues and failures seem to be a widespread thing with these particular Crucial SSD's. If I were you I would take my money elsewhere. Im rather surprised they are still for sale on newegg. Ridiculously expensive for the amount of storage you are getting at this point.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat while it worked

This review is from: Crucial M4 CT064M4SSD2 2.5" 64GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Worked great for 3 years as an RST cache.

Cons: When it started failing, I'd get random lockups in Windows 7 and it would occasionally disappear from the BIOS.
