4 out of 5 eggsMust upate firmware

Pros: Faster than disk, noticeable boot-up improvement. Fast enough to pin all six processors during av scans or OCR on large documents.

Cons: Firmware has bug that manifests around 5k hours of usage. Bug causes instability, intermittent freezing and eventually BSOD.

We lost considerable time and some data as a result. Corrupted windows, Hired Microsoft to debug system and after a day they threw in the towel with a complete reinstall.

As a firmware issue this is very hard to detect, it showed as many different windows crash messages that talked about memory errors, they actually were related to external storage in the pagefile.

I had several storage devices so it took a long time to isolate the issues to this device.

vendors firmware flash utility didn't want to update the device but could be overridden. System was stable after the firmware update.

Small if you have more than a few Gig data.

Other Thoughts: I have a Crucial 240 that has not had any problems, just luck of the draw on this model I guess.

1 out of 5 eggsCrucial Backpeddles on Order Confirmation

Pros: None

Cons: Crucial sends order confirmation on ssd. Then backs out because they ran out of stock, canceling full order and not single item in full order. Doesn't offer to do anything about it, after I canceled samsung due to order confirmation from crucial. Sold through crucials website. Very dissapointing experience.

2 out of 5 eggsShort Term - Buyer beware!

Pros: It was very fast, boot in about 5 seconds, games were fast as were all programs loads.

Cons: It only lasted 2 years!!!!!

Other Thoughts: Come on I've got mechanical drives over 5 years old still going strong. System just started to blue screen one day and finally refused to boot telling me insert valid boot device. I've run every test I can think of and some that people have recommended in forums and final conclusion is the SSD is either dying or it's already dead. I'm only writing this as a caution to others, I may have just pulled the short straw and go one that was bad in some way - On the other hand I will be looking at a different brand for my next SSD! I should have known better since SSD's are just memory and every set of Crucial memory I've owned has died!

5 out of 5 eggs2 yrs old still running strong

Pros: Bought this from Newegg back in Nov 2012 and I didn't even pay half what it is selling for now ($114 on my order history here). Not sure why this is selling for $250 now, there are a few other SSD's that out class it, maybe I'm missing something!

It's a great drive and while I do remember it having a firmware update right around the time I bought it, I haven't updated anything since then. I've reinstalled my primary OS at least a dozen times since buying this and I regularly wipe/shred the files and free space on it. I've also used all forms of various encryption on it. So far it's taken everything thrown at it and hasn't complained a bit.

Cons: Haven't found a single thing to complain about in this hard drive for the first time in a very long time.

Other Thoughts: Right now this SSD is my primary OS on my home computer since I don't need a whole lot of space. Barely using 80GB right now. No need to upgrade until this takes a fall. Would recommend to anyone but not sure about the $250 price tag on it now!

3 out of 5 eggsAwesome boot up speed! Short life.

Pros: Easy to install and use. Didn't get edgy with it, just installed it and let it run with default settings.

You just can't beat hitting the power switch and watching the bios flash and seconds later having the Windows desktop up and ready!.

Cons: Bought it in late 2011 and it just died on me (7/8/14). Its slow death began with infrequent problems like programs disappearing or characters not displaying. Problems became more frequent until computer would not boot.

Not going to pan it too much, but I'm obviously not happy with the longevity of this drive.

Other Thoughts: Kinda thought a solid state drive would easily outlast a mechanical one, but that turned out to be a fallacy.

Pros: Solid performance and great reliability. Pricing was good for the storage capacity at time of purchase. I have three of these in various machines and have been very pleased.

2 out of 5 eggsDied in under 2 years

Pros: Windows 7 Pro 64 bit loaded in seconds for almost 2 years.

Cons: 1 year 10 months later, it died. Same amount of time as another reviewer.

The only warning I had was for about a week I noticed Windows was taking a few more seconds to boot.

Other Thoughts: Going to my local store to pick up a Samsung 840 pro and will contact crucial about the warranty.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: Very fast when it works

Cons: Stopped working in 7 months. Computer shuts down without any warning. Let's see how strong the warranty is and if Crucial will honor it.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: Fast and reliable

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I have had this SSD a little over a year and a half now with NO issues whatsoever. As of yesterday, it is still registering the highest rating in the Windows Rating Index. My computer starts up quickly and quietly.
