5 out of 5 eggs19 Months Of Flawlessness

Pros: Fast. Quiet. Reliable. Relatively inexpensive (for an SSD). 19 months of use with no issues whatsoever.

Win7 Home Premium 64-bit installed in about 25 minutes. After enduring multiple 4+ hour installs of WinXP on HDDs over the prior 6 years, this was amazing.

Cons: None. None at all.

Other Thoughts: I bought my first-ever SSD - a 128GB Crucial M4 - as my main OS drive for a brand new build. I liked it so much that 7 days later I bought second one - this 256 GB model - as my main "scratch" drive.

19 months later, both drives are working perfectly.

I'm writing this review now because I logged in today to buy a 512 GB Crucial M4 on which I intend to reinstall my OS, as well as have room for some additional programs.

I considered a 1TB SSD, but the prices are still too high for me. Years and years of HDD failures make me leery about putting too much money into a drive.

I considered a Samsung SSD due to their reputation for reliability, but found a lot of recent stuff online about their "old data slowdown" bug. So went with my tried and true Crucial for my new drive.

1 out of 5 eggsStay Away

Pros: Very fast drive at time of purchase. Good price.

Cons: Drives fail constantly. Replacement drives under warranty fail as well. I have about 10 of these in Win 7 Dell E6530 laptops and they have cost me a ton in labor due to drive failures. Crucial tech support acts amazed every time we call to get a drive replaced as if it's the first failure they have heard of. On a few of the drives they have had us connect only the power cable to the drive (or boot into the BIOS only) and let it sit over night to let the drive do "housekeeping". This has revived a few drives but in every case it has failed again in a year or less.

5 out of 5 eggsAcer Aspire 7551 Upgrade

Pros: The transfer kit disk cloning and SSD installation was straightforward and flawless. The new SSD performance is worth every penny. Booting is so much faster as are program startups like Google Earth, Adobe Elements and some other large image files programs are unbelievably faster to load. What a difference! And my laptop is only SATA-II while the SSD is SATA-III. I can only imagine the improvement if my laptop was SATA-III capable.

Cons: I am sorry I did not do it sooner

Other Thoughts: Newegg is a class act! Good products, great service, quick delivery and there when you need them.

1 out of 5 eggsGet ready for troubleshooting

Pros: Lightweight

Cons: Put unit in new build as system disk. Worked for about a week then errors started happening (I thought I was getting an SSD not a HD) frustrated I just pulled the unit out and bought a different SSD from a Korean mfg which has been working flawlessly.

Other Thoughts: Poor mfg and quality control and wasted a lot of time believing it was a different component on a i7 2011 build.

5 out of 5 eggsCrucial M4 256GB SATAIII

Pros: Light years faster than my insanely slow hard drive of 8 years. Feel like I own a brand new machine.
A moron could install the device.

Cons: None whatsoever.

1 out of 5 eggsHORRIBLE

Pros: It's a SSD??? SORTA

Cons: Drive failed in less than a month...which is to be expected. If a system component is going to fail, it will usually do so withing the first 30 days. However when making an attempt to RMA the SSD, I contacted the online chat on the Crucial website. Basically was informed that they have never had the issues that I had with their SSD and that I needed to call their tech support. So, when I did this, I was informed through an automated message that no one was available to assist because everyone was receiving training.'t think that I will ever be ordering ***ANYTHING*** from them ***EVER AGAIN***. Stick with Samsung or Intel - their tech support will at least be available to help you or not try and get out of having to RMA a defective item.

5 out of 5 eggsYay! I did it!!

Pros: People trust Crucial because they're consistent, and they back their products. NewEgg has the reviews that are real, and help with purchase decisions.

This M4 with Transfer-kit is sooo great! Simple and easy...I did it myself. :)

Cons: The only thing I am curious about (and this is not due to a fault), is the current state of TRIM. Whether it is running or not, is the only question I con's what-so-ever!

Anyone know of a desktop icon that shows it in use or 'working'? I know you can check the raid = thing, but that doesn't tell you if it IS actually working.
I have Mechanic Pro 11.5 and I am wondering if I shoud use the SSD accelerator. Any thoughts on this would really be appreciated. :)

Other Thoughts: Crucial has a website video that shows exactly how to install this SSD. I ordered the transfer kit (I'm a girl, let it go) and, just like the video shows and say''s that easy.

I have waited for three months to make sure that, before I reviewed this, I have tried everything to see if there are issues. NONE. :) I bought the M4 because of the reviews and tenure that Crucial has. I bought from NewEgg because their the best; there I said it.

I watched youtube videos on how to install the new SSD and remove the old HDD, talk about great!

So instead of the new pair of winter boots I was going to buy (they were gorgeous by the way), I went with the SSD and regrets what-so-ever!

Watch the Crucial video on the install first before trying to do it. Mine took about 45 minutes to transfer to the SSD. But after that, I wondered when it was going to get difficult, but it didn't! It just worked! And very well.

I would recommend this (and I have) to my friends or family.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Fast, easy to install

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: Mine came with the latest firmware, so no update needed. I used WD clone software to clone from my 1T boot drive to this.
