5 out of 5 eggsgreat ram

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Elite 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model BLE2KIT4G3D1608DE1TX0

Pros: Fast ram with low Latency of 8. It was the best CAS latency compared to others that cost 10 or 20 bucks more. This even looks cool in my rig.

Cons: If you have a massive CPU cooler, like the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, buy low profile ram.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat while it works

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Elite 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model BLE2KIT4G3D1608DE1TX0

Pros: It does everything it should while it lasts. The heatsinks keep it running cool, and it supports XMP well.

Cons: High failure rate. With a new computer build, this was the part that made installing an OS impossible. Two years later, the replacement units are throwing errors, leading to random crashes. These would be 5-star units if they'd resolve the defects.

Other Thoughts: The heatsinks make the modules taller than other RAM sticks - something to keep in mind in SFF cases that use full-size RAM.

We (our IT department) has been having bad luck with Crucial RAM lately (within the past year and a half), for unknown reasons. It's sad, as we've used Crucial as a go-do "known good" brand.

5 out of 5 eggsCrucial Ballistix 8GB (2 x 4GB) Elite

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Elite 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model BLE2KIT4G3D1608DE1TX0

Pros: Fast timings
Fast speed
Huge, high quality heatsinks (see cons)
It's Crucial!

Cons: Huge heatsinks

This may be an issue for some people, they are approximately
2in tall from top to bottom and 3/4 of an inch over the PCB.
Measure before buying if this is a potential issue for you!

Other Thoughts: Had to enter BIOS and configure the memory correctly to stock, other than that they fired right up even with wonky settings.

I will update if anything else comes up.

5 out of 5 eggsFancy

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Elite 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model BLE2KIT4G3D1608DE1TX0

Pros: Works fine right out of the box, Ran memtest86 on it and had no errors.

Cons: Fins are a bit tall on the heat sinks, may be a issue for some with a non stock CPU cooler. Not as pretty as the tracer series.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdated Review

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Elite 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model BLE2KIT4G3D1608DE1TX0

Pros: CAS 8 / 1600 - rock solid replacements.

Cons: Quality control issue caused us to have a bad batch with > 50% failure rate.

Other Thoughts: Updated review:

We had 2/5 sets with bad sticks, and another 1/5 that was intermittently failing; 60% failure rate out-of-the-box. Identical boards, identical configurations. Problems followed the RAM between boards, which rules out 'configuration issues'.

Since I've used this type of RAM before, I was curious why all of the problems suddenly. Newegg was easy to work with for the RMA process, as always; we ended up getting 3 perfectly functional kits in return. That's what I expected!

Guessing a bad batch got mixed in somehow. It happens!

For anyone complaining about ANY 1600+ RAM 'not showing up as 1600', you need to understand that JEDEC only supported up to 1333 per the original standard. Anything beyond this is only supported by extensions to the original standard, and may or may not be supported *cough* XMP *cough*.
Do it the way we power-users have always done - set the speed and timings by hand. So long as you have a quality board and RAM, things will be fine! =)

ALWAYS run Memtest86+ when you have new RAM, or if you've tweaked the timings the slightest bit - even if just for a few minutes! The version you want to run is located at memtest dot org. This can save you much grief in the future, especially if your RAM is 'a little flaky'.

ANY errors at stock speed/voltage are a problem. Reseat the RAM and the CPU, then try again. If problems persist, you probably have bad RAM. Forcing an over-voltage WILL NOT FIX faulty RAM. The RAM should be replaced if it does not run at manufacturer specs!

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Elite 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model BLE2KIT4G3D1608DE1TX0

Pros: This is probably the best stick of memory you can get at this price range.

Cons: Cons,I don't think that word exists for this product.

Other Thoughts: Just spend the extra 5 to 10 dollars it is well worth it.

5 out of 5 eggsLove this stuff

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Elite 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model BLE2KIT4G3D1608DE1TX0

Pros: I love Crucial ram. This stuff just works as it should. Tight timings for DDR 1600. Easily overclocks to DDR 1866 at stock voltage with loosened timing. 9-9-9-27 @ 1.5 volts. The heatsink are nice too.

Cons: Nothing, its Crucial ram.

Other Thoughts: Every gaming system i have built has used Ballistix ram. I'm a fan for life.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Ram

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Elite 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model BLE2KIT4G3D1608DE1TX0

Pros: Bought it on sale. Work right out of the box without any problems with an Asus board. Even without it being on the QVL, it was recognized.

Cons: Zero

Other Thoughts: Dont forget to set the XMP profile.
