1 out of 5 eggsDOA or grosslly incompatible?

Pros: They are Cas 8 and 1.5V.

Cons: Tried it in 2 different MoBos (ASUS and GIGABYTE), both refused to boot after their original DDR3 has been replaced with at least one of these sticks. I find it highly unlikely that both sticks in the kit I received were somehow defective, yet neither stick could be made to work. This is the first time in my 15 years building my own PCs when I have run into a problematic DDR kit. I will be ordering a different brand.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Ram

Pros: Easy install, fast, great looking led lights.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I don't know why people are having an issue with the MOD utility. I have down loaded the software anad have zero issues. I have this memory on an Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2 Gen 3 board. The memory is currently running at 1880. No issues. I also have an AMD FX 9590 clocked at 5.017 out of the box. Idles at 34c. Great machine. Would recommend and would buy again.

1 out of 5 eggsLikes to crash my computer.

Pros: The RAM has a lows CL, and and at a reasonable voltage.

Different modes to run LEDs at.

Looks nice to some people.

Cons: doesn't work with x79 bases systems.

Blue screens me 1-2 times a day

software won't launch

cant do anything intensive, or play games for a long time without it crashing my computer

gives errors in memory test.

Other Thoughts: Should have gotten RAM that is known to work. Wouldn't recommend this because of compatibility issues, and headaches.

5 out of 5 eggsmemory

Pros: it is stable on a asus saber-tooth z87 board LGA 1150, the leds look good when turned down just a notch.
It is also prime95 stable overclocked ABOVE XMP 1600 specs. on the same board running a corsair ram cooler.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: for me i had to turn the leds down just a little bit using the mod utility, this is not really a con because they are adjustable with the utility that you can get from crucial's website for free

5 out of 5 eggsStill going strong a year later.

Pros: Red/Green LEDs are very cool. Stable and fast.

Cons: Price has gone up.

Other Thoughts: What can be said other than Crucial does it again with the Ballistix Tracer series. The RAM looks cool, has heatsinks, and uses red and green LEDs that are useful when used in conjunction with the M.O.D Utility.
The only con I can think of is price; it's doubled in the last year which makes buying two of these kits an expensive undertaking. Still, having 16GB of RAM cool RAM is worth it and I would recommend Crucial to anyone looking for stable memory for their ultimate build.

3 out of 5 eggsworked for a while

Pros: Looks great, the downloaded program allows some customization of the LED flash sequences, fast at first, recognized by ASUS motherboard, and an MSI board.

Cons: I purchased this for my husband's work computer in April 2012. Until about a month ago, it worked very well at 1600. The computer crashed after testing everything from mobo to video card to drives I was able to find only that the machine would run with the full 8 gigs of ram if it was set to 1333 MHz. I was able to narrow down which dimm was bad.

Other Thoughts: I helped a friend build a gaming computer using the the Blue/orange version. The memory worked well for about a month, then one dimm died. I have used crucial memory in many builds since 2002, and have never had any of their stuff fail before. This memory was never overclocked, so I would not expect a faiilure of this sort from crucial.

5 out of 5 eggsAlmost 2 Years old and still Awesome!

Pros: Leds work flawlessly and memory is fast and reliable running on a Asrock FX990 Extreme 4 motherboard. The people that are complaining about short lifetime and dead leds are more than likely not using static electricity precautions. I have bought more than 56 sets of these over the past 2 years and all are still working.

Cons: Price just keep going up! Bought my first ones at 50 a pair a year ago.

Other Thoughts: You must use anti static protection on your body or they will be destroyed as soon as you touch them and when removing them from their package also cause static. Even at an undetectable level you will get static discharge at a minimum of hundreds of volts. Not detected due to hardly no current. Walk across a carpet and touch a door knob and you got 17,000 volts of a spark that you can see and feel.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Memory Stick

Pros: This is a great memory stick! I had compatibility problems with 2 different other brands and my Gigabyte mother board and AMD A-10 processor. The Ballistic Tactical Tracer stick work like a champ and also have the led lights that you turn on or off if you want, they look great if you have a see through panel on your computer!

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsQuality cliff diving.

Pros: The first 7 mins or so they kind of "worked" ....

Cons: ....as long as you didn't wish the software to have a outcome that was determinable before hand. The light control was miss or miss, never doing what you asked more than change randomly (which isn't a choice). Software could also not see memory off and on reporting one stick as having an up time of 20,000 some odd days of use. Nor should you wish them to run at the speed they were sold as. 1600 at 9cas yes.1600 at 8-8-8 no. One stick failed after a few mins (although the lights were going strong) unlike its neighbor who has one light out and another that just apologizes more than lights up fully. On a personal level I find the newer lights monochrome led pattern a poor substitute for the older style which really had two colors lighting them up (3 if you count the base lights). Plus the older style reacted visibly to the amount of work they were doing where as now they start flashing full speed (or near enough) if you open so much as a browser. So, bad speeds, bad life span, really bad software, poor quality lights, and a real let down when compared to older styles of DDR3 I have rode from Crucial. I didn't mind the high cost when I thought I was getting a solid set of sticks, but now I can't help but feel I made a extremely poor choice in picking Ballistix this time around.

Other Thoughts: Hey. At least this gives people at PAX something to rage against besides the per table power limit.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

We're sorry the Ballistix Tactical Tracer didn't meet your expectations or caused you any issues. These modules have dual color LEDs that are user selectable via our Ballistix MOD utility along with the ability to select 4 preset patterns, adjust brightness and turn them on/off. If any LEDs are not fuctioning or there are issues with the software control, please contact us directly with your system configuration details at 1-800-336-8896 (Option #2) and we will assist you with trouble shooting or an RMA if necessary.

For the speed and timings, the CL8 is available via XMP in BIOS if you system supports it, otherwise you will have to manually set to CL8. If you've tried this, talk to our support representatives to see if they can assist.

Regards,
Crucial
