This review is from: Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD1 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC 7mm Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: UPDATE REVIEW

Cons: Apparently there is an issue with these drives that if the power goes out the drive bricks. The process for unbricking is disconnect the drive for 3 minutes and then hook it back up and turn on the computer for 20 minutes. Repeat the process until the drive decides to stop being stupid.

Other Thoughts: This is the worst hard drive experience I've ever had. I do no recommend getting this drive.
I'm not a fan of buying a product and then finding out it was a beta release. firmware version at purchase was 10G. Latest firmware available is 70H.

2 out of 5 eggsMeh 4

This review is from: Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD1 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC 7mm Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast and inexpensive.

Cons: Life span is pretty terrible. I had a problem with it before and switching it to the SATA 2 port seemed to get it worked out but now it appears to be toast.
Purchased 12/13/2012 -> stone dead today 09/19/14

Other Thoughts: I have submitted the RMA request with crucial since they have a 3 year warranty. We'll see how that goes.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD1 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC 7mm Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: love them, I got my first one in January of 2013. it was so fast. So bought one more, put them in raid 0. Now it's faster. Got about 500 MB read without raid. And about 175 MB write. In raid 0 now it's about 850 MB read. And 380 MB write.boot times between 10 and 15 seconds.

Cons: only cons is updating the firmware. Took a little bit of reading up on their forum. But found software that with one click did it all. Also you have to get Windows to recognize it because it would boot up but Windows didn't see it. Again I did a search this time on Google and found what I needed. all is well.

Other Thoughts: looks like they've come down in price about $20 in 10 months
have looked on the forms of other SSD manufacturers. All seem to have the same gripes so buy what you're comfortable with but get a SSD.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Waist Your Money

This review is from: Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD1 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC 7mm Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Great SSD if it works

Cons: Died in less than a year and RMA isn't even a year. Just stops working and you are out of luck and out $150. Not worth getting

5 out of 5 eggsFast for OS boottimes

This review is from: Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD1 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC 7mm Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Have this as my boot drive now for several months and it performs flawlessly and boot times after computer finished it's cycling is about 15 seconds from start of boot windows to when I am on the internet with windows 8 under windows 7 about 25 seconds to online time my computer I do not have on fast boot for hardware so it is the most time consuming aspect of boot now

Cons: Price but that too will eventually come down just like the early days of CD burners and blank media when we paid $80 for a package of 100 blank CDs and $75 for a CD burner

5 out of 5 eggsFaithful

This review is from: Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD1 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC 7mm Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I have had friends that have had other big name SSD's fail on them. My original one from close to two years has never given me a problem so anytime I order a SSD for builds I go with the M4...

Cons: Its not listed as the fastest drive but my pc still boots in around 15 seconds... Fast enough in my book! Not really a con I suppose....

4 out of 5 eggsFast and Reiliable SSD

This review is from: Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD1 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC 7mm Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast. Improves boot time.

Cons: Doesn't show drive temperature in the SMART data.

Other Thoughts: I've used it in 2 different machines, one with SATA-2 and the other with SATA-3. Quick on both, but obviously MUCH faster on SATA-3. Read speeds are well over 500Mbps and write speeds at approx. half that. Boot times are awesome in Windows 7 and takes less than 5 seconds to boot Windows 8 on my Netbook (Intel N550 CPU). Boot times are dramatically improved and the overall use of the OS is much smoother. Breathes new life into slower machines, its amazing.
