This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model BLS4G3D1609DS1S00

Pros: Works as it should not problems at all.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I have purchased two sticks of the 4gb for my brother and two sticks of the 8gb for myself and they all have worked perfectly as expected.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model BLS4G3D1609DS1S00

Pros: Regular profile height. Works solidly on both ECS and Asus H61 motherboards (Socket 1156) with the Celeron G1610 and G1620. I'm using 64-bit GNU/Linux distro, have had zero problems with this RAM. I should have bought two when the price was around $36.00. It's a little higher speed (1600) than my motherboard/chip combos that support only 1333, yet it drops down without issue.

This memory is well worth the investment and will continue to buy when on sale, when able.

I highly recommend it when priced under $40 or under the competitor models mentioned in other thoughts.

Cons: Only one color of heat-shields. I'm not heavy into color coordinating my computer builds, so black is fine for me. I wouldn't mind a blue series for Asus boards.

Not low profile. That's a different model at a different price-point, I know.

As you can tell, really struggling to find faults here, based upon my nit-picking.

Other Thoughts: When it's not on sale, can find Kingston Fury or G-Skill Ripjaws at better prices on 4GB sticks. Might go with Crucial over Kingston, but the Ripjaws are highly-touted, so Crucial either needs to stay competitive on price or push the limits on quality & speed.

This memory is well worth the investment and will continue to buy, even if only saving a few measly bucks over other major brands. I would probably focus more on this brand if going with very low profile.

I don't overclock. With idle computer, this stick worked on the ECS board & 8800GTX with about 125 watts AC draw but the Asus H61 w/HD 7790 wasn't even drawing 75 watts. The Celeron G1610/1620 is rated at 55W TDP, so you are talking miniscule wattage for a 4GB with the latter example. Running dual monitor setup, it's showing 99 watts draw as I type this.

1 out of 5 eggsAlmost as bad as their customer service

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model BLS4G3D1609DS1S00

Pros: RMA process is slightly less painful than sticking your hand in a blender

Cons: Had to replace one stick, then replace the replacement. Return process makes me want to kill myself. Customer service may actually be a pile of deck geckos, or at the very least have the same mental capacity. Crucial website will make you want to run a cheese grater across your brain.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Memory

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model BLS4G3D1609DS1S00

Pros: Looks neat. Worked with MSI AM1I ITX and single channel memory controller of Kabini processor.

Cons: Cost. 4gb about 2/3 cost of 8gb.

Other Thoughts: If you choose this product, for your own single channel system go for the 8gb, as the cost/performance value ratio is higher with 8gb. If you are building a cheap system for the brother-in-law, give him the 4gb.

1 out of 5 eggsBad chip

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model BLS4G3D1609DS1S00

Pros: shipped to me quickly, priced decent.

Cons: does not work, causes system errors

Other Thoughts: I bought this ram to put into a new gaming computer that I was building,
I didn't install it until a couple weeks after buying.
At first it seemed to work fine, but about a week after install I started getting occasional BSODs, which grew more frequent over the next week. My minidump files indicated an error code of 0x1a, which is a memory management failure, and upon testing the Crucial Ballistics sport chip, it was found to be faulty. I removed and replaced it with another ram chip I knew to be working and the 0x1a error is now gone.

Without ambiguity, the new chip was the cause.

This was a bad chip, and it caused me lots of headache.

Worse yet, I am informed now that I cannot rma due to having it a little over a month

I guess I'll just have to eat this one and live & learn, but know that I am NOT happy with Crucial Ballistics or Newegg right now.

Word of warning to others. Caveat Emptor!.(buyer beware!)
If you buy a ram chip from Crucial Ballistics do not wait to install i! or the same thing might happen to you

5 out of 5 eggsRAM!

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model BLS4G3D1609DS1S00

Pros: Good price, decent quality, nice spreader?

Cons: Not as cheap as it was a few years ago

Other Thoughts: I hated paying so much for 4GB when I remember when 8GB sticks were running in around in the $40 range a couple years ago. But such is the ride of memory - I watched this same thing with DDR2 years ago. Guess I'll have to wait for the DDR4 boat to come around to buy large amounts of RAM again.

4 out of 5 eggsIt remembers things(for a limited time)

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model BLS4G3D1609DS1S00

Pros: It works. That is really all I can say about it.

Cons: none really

Other Thoughts: It still amazes me that they sell single sticks of ram, considering boards and CPU's are designed to run more effectively on two sticks.
