4 out of 5 eggsAll-time Favorite

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory (with Orange/Blue Light) Model BLT2KIT4G3D1869DT2TXOB

Pros: Works great. If you prefer to have led's in your build and you have a window, then you will probably appreciate these. I do.

Great performance with AMD too.

Cons: Only comes in 4Gb modules? Limited overall size and speeds for the Crucial tracer series. Maybe there just isn't a demand for it?

Other Thoughts: I used the Crucial tracer series memory for the first time a few years ago with a Phenom II build. Now this is one specific build component that I always look for when building a new desktop.

Newegg ships fast!

5 out of 5 eggsPurchased second kit

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory (with Orange/Blue Light) Model BLT2KIT4G3D1869DT2TXOB

Pros: Great so far. So good I came back for a second kit!

Cons: I keep missing it on sale. Well it has gone done quite a bit since my first purchase, but still would love to get a few more. Would also love to see these in 8GB sticks :( but Crucial says they don't make anything larger than 4.

Still fairly expensive, I've been seeing DDR4 16GB kits running around this current price, so hoping this comes down a bit more before Christmas.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertised with some manual bios tweaking

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory (with Orange/Blue Light) Model BLT2KIT4G3D1869DT2TXOB

Pros: Works as advertised however on Asus boards you need to manually set your speed and timings in the AI Overclocking menu. once that was set all worked well. I have these and my cpu with a slight overclock and no hiccups. Good memory for $45 and the MOD utility is kinda nice.

Cons: lights are blinding by default and getting the mod utility to unzip for install was tedious. Windows will not unzip the installer natively and required a third party application in order to install the utility. once it was installed the brightness could be tweaked but overall these things should ship with the LEDs at a lower setting

5 out of 5 eggsPC is now a Night Light (I sleep better now)

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory (with Orange/Blue Light) Model BLT2KIT4G3D1869DT2TXOB

Pros: So, as the review title states, these sticks have turned my Corsair 450D into a night light. I used to have no LEDs and wanted to add some light (case window seemed useless before), just didn't think it would be this amazing! In terms of speed, they feel faster than a 2133mhz G.Skill kit they replaced, I assume due to timings (9cl vs 11cl). Might consider overclocking in the future, but for now, don't see the need to, as my iGPU in my 7870K is not being used anymore. As for my sleeping, I no longer need to check in my closet or under my bed for monsters. Thanks, Crucial!

Cons: LED's are a bit too bright, brighter than my Phanteks LED fans in the front of my 450D. Other than that, I'd say flawless. It can be remedied with the M.O.D Desktop Utility (a must in my opinion, as it also monitors temps on individual sticks) though, along with editing the pattern.

Other Thoughts: Blue and orange are my favorite colors, and for my build, I have the Phanteks Blue LED fans. This kit has inspired me to order their Orange LED fans, mount one in the rear, one near the PSU, and have the option to alternate colors in my build. The Phanteks fans come with LED switches, so I can just turn the blue off, and turn the orange on! Variety FTW!!

Build:
AMD A10-7870K
MSI A88X-G45 Gaming Motherboard
NZXT Kraken X61 CPU Cooler
Crucial Tactical Tracer 1866mhz
Sapphire Nitro R9 380 4GB
OCZ ARC100 240GB SSD
WD Black 1TB
EVGA P2 750W PSU
Corsair 450D

5 out of 5 eggsKid approved!

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory (with Orange/Blue Light) Model BLT2KIT4G3D1869DT2TXOB

Pros: Purchased this for my son's pc. The main reason I chose this over all the other cheaper 8GB kits is the LEDS especially the Orange ones. Orange is my son's favorite color, so this was a no brainer.

Cons: Took longer than expected to get here but that's on the post office not newegg.

Other Thoughts: Might make the kid save up for another set... Honestly there's not enough orange led hardware; and orange led fans costs 2-3 times as much as a blue led fan. Took a while but he finally has his orange glowing beast he wanted.

Still need to find a powersupply and heatsink with orange leds to add the finishing touches.
