2 out of 5 eggsDo Not Recommend

Pros: Decent performance; boot times faster than 7200 RPM HDD (given other reviews, I think I lucked out in this area), decent write times.

Cons: This was an underperforming drive for an SSD, in my experience, but was still better than the average HDD. Take that with a grain of salt, because I see other reviews decrying performance.

Like other users, mine died. It died far, far too soon. It was running as an OS drive for a Linux server, with reads/writes minimized as much as technically possible for the distro in question. This is why I think mine lasted longer than these other reviews suggest.

There was a study recently that suggested it was the norm for consumer-level SDD's to behave unexpectedly in the event of a power outage. For those of us who don't have ridiculous disposable income to put all our devices on UPSes, this is problematic. However, I had mine behind a very high-quality surge protector, because I live in the Northeast USA where thunderstorms are commonplace.

Despite this, a single unanticipated power outage, JUST ONE, completely killed this drive. There are too many bad sectors for it to be usable now. The study on SSD behavior under power outage suggested mostly file corruption; it was not common for a drive to develop bad sectors or to die, i.e. it was common for files to be damaged but in the vast majority of cases the drives remained completely usable. It is a testament to the lack of quality in this drive, supportive of other reviews here, that it falls into the latter category.

Do yourself a favor and do not buy this drive. Back when I bought it, the reviews were good (although there were not many) as the drive was relatively new to the market (to my knowledge). Now it should be obvious that this is a dud model in general, so heed the warnings all these reviews give and go for a different drive!

Other Thoughts: I don't think it is unreasonable to expect from an SSD that, at the very least, a power outage (not surge, but outage) would not completely kill the drive. File corruption due to interrupted writes? Fine. Bad sectors or bricked drives? Absolutely unacceptable, and generally manufacturers avoid this.

Traditionally I have respected Crucial's product quality, but this makes me question buying from them again, particularly the fact that these failures and bad reviews have been going on so long and the product has not been pulled. Shame on you, Crucial. You should be looking out for your customers more and not allowing the poor quality of a product go unacknowledged and continue sale of that product. I will be far more wary of buying newer products from this manufacturer in the future.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Performance, Died too soon

Pros: Low Power Usage

Cons: Tons of bad sectors after 1yr of use as an OS drive.
Was a poor performer for writes AND reads. Oddly... the SMART data on drive has a static (bad) value for Temperature which caused my NVR software to shutdown for overheat protection. (That was fun to figure out).

Other Thoughts: Using it on a Security Camera NVR as just an OS drive. Bought it because SSD's use very little power and are supposed to last for a million of hours especially if it's read intensive. Apparently not so much with this one. I'll be buying a better reviewed SSD as a replacement

1 out of 5 eggsAnother Fail

Pros: cheap

Cons: Died after 2 months of use in a Linux Router

Other Thoughts: hope I can get my money back. Was cheap unless you count the labor to replace with something else.

2 out of 5 eggs Dead after two week

Pros: Cheap.

Cons: It performs as a 5400 rpm conventional disk. It died after 2 weeks of use.

Other Thoughts: There is a reason why this model is so cheap ...

1 out of 5 eggsVery poor performer

Pros: cost.. if that can be called a pro for something that is almost worthless

Cons: Very very slow, stutteres, slower than a harddrive.

Other Thoughts: First off let me say that I have a lot of experience with SSD's in the last few months I have bought about 10 ranging from 60 to 480gigs.

I bought this drive for a relatively simple embed project using an Intel Atom system. My expectations were not very high to start off, I wanted snappy HDD performance, but more I bought it for the vibration resistance.

I installed XP on it, and from the get-go it was very slow. the install took longer than normal, then windows updates and normal use was painfully slow. A Harddrive would have been much faster. I then googled around and found out that many others were experiencing similar problems and there was no real fix. I also found that there was a huge difference between the Cricual V4 (this ssd) and the Cricial M4 (which actually isn't a bad ssd)

All that said don't buy this. I returned mine.

1 out of 5 eggsWast of money

Pros: Nune so far

Cons: Slow speed (it is the same speed as my 7200rpm Drive)
To small for normal boot drive(maybe for a laptop but not a desktop with windows 7)
Cant be use as a cache drive
customer support that dues not care
$50 paperweight

Other Thoughts: This was my first and last SSD, it is not as fast as they advertise. Then I find out I cant even get all the windows updates because it is to small. I contact customer support to find out if I can use the thing for cashe and the tell me "NO" and that's it. What is the point of this thing other than to flush $50 down the toilet. Next time ill just get a 10000rpm Drive that way I know it will be faster and will have the space to handle windows 7.

1 out of 5 eggsFirst SSD leaves bitter taste

Pros: Size is perfect for my boot drive for NAS server, good price

Cons: I bought an SSD for stability and speed. I've never had a drive of any type fail until this one.

Other Thoughts: Out of RMA period, have to deal with manufacturer
