If you bought a computer before 2011, go with the Crucial v4 SSD. It delivers substantial SSD performance for mainstream computer systems with faster start–up times and 9 x faster speed than HDDs. This Crucial Easy Desktop Install Kit provides the hardware to mount a 2.5-inch SSD into a standard 3.5-inch drive bay. Includes adapter bracket and SATA cable for quick and easy installation. This SSD is compatible with PC/Mac.
Fast and hopefully dies of old age.
Pros: Good price point. Included 3.5" install kit. Boots any windows from XP to Win 7 in seconds.
Cons: Generally the SSD offerings are like getting better gas mileage in your car if you drive with the top up, the AC off and are doing highway instead of city miles and don't lay on the noise pedal. I took the usual precautions and minimized any write tasks to the disk (no defrag, page file, restore points, etc.) for the Windows 7 install and use a second platter drive for user files, photos, music, etc. When all is said and done it's apparent that the hoops you are recommended to take for an SSD install make it not a drop in, ideal replacement, for a fast platter drive. The ideal SSD is one you don't have to work around and can just enjoy the speed advantage and robustness without potentially giving up some features of your OS like restore points (I do run a regular local mirror backup).
Other Thoughts: I don't regret the purchase, even after spending some time to 'set up' the drive to maximize its lifetime. I have a 2nd gen. ASUS EEEPC netbook that I had later installed Windows XP Pro on its 4GB integrated SSD and it ran for two years of daily use without destroying the drive, my data or my patience. I semi-retired it for a larger laptop and re-installed its original linux OS and it's just as fast loading and in usage as the day I first got it. I'm hoping this SSD gives me the same sort of service. Time will tell.

Controller on this SSD has ISSUES
Pros: Seemed to be a good value.
Cons: Drive performance was pitiful on two machines, a new ASUS K53U laptop, and a 5 year old Dell Precision desktop.
