1 out of 5 eggsBecame Defective after 12 Months - Mac Disk Utility Says It Cannot Repair It

Pros: Has a 3-year parts and labor warranty.

Cons: Got this in 01/2013. Installed it in 03/2014. I died in 03/2014. I have it in my Mac Book Pro. Disk Utility says, "Error: Disk utility can't repair this disk." At least this product comes with a 3 year parts and labor warranty.

1 out of 5 eggsTrash

Pros: SSD. Decent size. Good price at time of purchase.

Cons: Firmware revision issues. Firmware upgrade requires complete drive wipe. After updating to revision 25, the drive still hangs at 100% frequently. It takes 5+ minutes before Windows is finished loading with only Dropbox, iTunes picture loader, and Avast! as additional startup applications.

Other Thoughts: I know Crucial makes good products; they completely fell on their face here and aren't making good to address it except on a one off basis. I'll still buy Crucial, but do better research next time.

2 out of 5 eggsA Dissapointment

Pros: The drive was fairly priced, or so it seemed, at the time.
It's an SSD.
It has a good warranty.

Cons: It's defective from the get go. Crucial released the product with known firmware issues which have only recently addressed for MOST consumers. What that means is you have to backup all your drive contents, install the new firmware, hoping it solves your problem, and copy all your files back over. Painful, time consuming, and a drain on the life of the drive.

Other Thoughts: I rarely purchase Crucial even though they have a well recognized name; I did this time looking for quality and only got half of what I was promised. Would I buy Crucial again? Maybe. Would I recommend their products now? No.

5 out of 5 eggsGood SSD for the $

Pros: This has been the system drive of my work computer for about six months, and it works great. It sped up boot times from over a minute to less than 20 seconds. Opening office programs is near instantaneous.

Cons: Not SATA III

Other Thoughts: Get this to upgrade an older computer with SATA II 3Gbps connections. It will be way faster than a mechanical drive.

1 out of 5 eggsSlower than snail on molasses

Pros: Easy to clone with included kit. Good price.

Cons: Went from estimated < 1 minute boot times and maybe 2 - 3 minute (maximum) restart times with original Micron 128GB SSD to 12 1/2 minutes to restart and all operations extremely slow.

Other Thoughts: Other users on Crucial's forums have documented similar problems with slow V4 SSD drives.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks nicely in 2008 MBP

Pros: Works as promised, fast enough, compatible with MacBook Pro (early 2008 model, not unibody) running Mountain Lion and W7 under Parallels

Cons: transfer kit really not necessary

Other Thoughts: Have installed in 2008 MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion and Windows 7 (Parallels). With stock 200GB 5400 disk W7 in Parallels really sucked, too slow for even business use (my only use) even though the Mac applications were as fast as necessary

After installation W7 in Parallels is working great and a real upgrade to the whole system. This will extend the life of the MBP another year or two and the SSD will be a bonus when it gets sold.

Note that the SSD runs at 3.0 GB but MBP bus only handles 1.5 GB so there is some unused transfer capacity but it really doesn't matter.

One star dinged for the transfer kit. Pretty standard SATA/USB cable and I ended up downloading the Mac transfer software for free from SuperDuper.
