Crucial M4 CT032M4SSD3 32GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

  • 32GB
  • Mini-SATA (mSATA)
ICON Loading...

The Crucial m4 mSATA SSD delivers all of the award-winning performance and reliability of the Crucial m4 SSD – in a drive that’s an eighth of the size. It enables blazing fast system boot up and program launch on mSATA equipped desktop or laptop computers.

  • newegg Award-winning performance. Tiny form factor. Measuring in at about one-third the size of a standard business card (3cm x 5cm), the Crucial m4 mSATA is designed primarily for ultrathin laptop users who want to dramatically increase their system's performance. Featuring the same advanced controller technology, Micron custom firmware and high-speed synchronous MLC NAND that have made the Crucial m4 SSD a mainstay on the market, the Crucial m4 mSATA SSD is engineered to deliver the same blazing-fast performance as the award-winning 2.5-inch SSD – in a smaller mSATA form factor.
  • newegg Ultrathin form factor means flexibility. Because of its tiny mSATA form factor, the Crucial m4 mSATA SSD can do things that hard drives and other SSDs often can't. With the Crucial m4 mSATA SSD, save valuable system space by mounting it directly to the mSATA socket on your motherboard – and free up a hard drive bay in the process. Or just keep your existing hard drive and use the Crucial m4 mSATA SSD as a cache to accelerate the system's performance. Validated for Intel Smart Response Technology and NVELO Dataplex caching software, it's designed to work as a cache or as a standalone SSD for ultrathin laptops. No matter how you use the Crucial m4 mSATA SSD, experience high-performance storage in a tiny, low-power package.
  • newegg Consistently fast speeds. No exceptions and no fine print. There's a reason that Crucial SSDs have garnered numerous international awards – they do what they're supposed to do. No matter what kind of files you're working with on a Crucial SSD, you'll experience high speeds with no drop in performance. Unlike other SSDs on the market, Crucial SSDs treat all files the same, regardless of whether they're compressed or uncompressed. This is important because the files most people use everyday – videos, mp3s, advanced graphics files and zip files – are compressed files and thus unable to be compressed any further. While many SSDs on the market achieve faster speeds by using file compression, many of the most common file types can't be compressed, resulting in SSDs that often deliver drastically slower speeds than originally advertised. With the advanced technology of a Crucial SSD, however, the advertised speeds are tied to real world use.
  • newegg Crucial - quality you can depend on. Crucial is a trusted name when it comes to SSDs, and that's no coincidence. As a brand of Micron, one of the world's leading manufacturers of SSDs, Crucial engineers work tirelessly to design, refine, and support a powerful line of SSDs.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good value for speeding up a PC

Pros: -Not very expensive for its capacity.
-Makes a PC noticeably faster when used as a cache drive with Intel SRT
-Very small and unobtrusive

Cons: -Failed after a few months, replaced under warranty.

Other Thoughts: RMA process for failed drive was easy and painless so I'm not taking away and egg for the failed drive. I used this in a new desktop build as a cache drive and am very impressed by the speed. Subjectively it feels almost as snappy as my laptop which is 100% SSD. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone with an SRT-enabled motherboard looking for a low-cost speed upgrade.

1 out of 5 eggsNon Returnable

Pros: It's made by Crucial and fits the mSata slot.

Cons: Neither Dell nor Crucial can confirm if this drive is compatible with the Dell Mini 9 and mine doesn't work. So it's either bad or not compatible, the pin counts line up but Dell states it needs a pata drive. Worst part of all of this, Newegg refuses to refund on a drive I had less than a week.

Other Thoughts: Always been happy with Newegg til now. It's not they're fault I can't get this drive to work and neither mfg has knowledge to compatibility. But since Newegg wont refund I'm stuck going through Crucial with a drive that might not even be bad.

5 out of 5 eggsI Love Crucial

Pros: Drive came with the screws and worked right after boot. Turned into cache drive on my Lenovo T420.

Cons: price

Other Thoughts: Almost wish I had gone with the 64GB mSata drive.

4 out of 5 eggsReally Fast

Pros: I installed my OS and a couple programs on this SSD, and everything runs quickly and smoothly. My boot time is 15-20s which is amazing.

Cons: I didn't really understand the concept of mSATA before buying this drive, so I had to get 2.5" adapter to use it with my motherboard. Of course, this is not the fault of the manufacturer, but it can just be a little inconvenient to work with this form factor. I would recommend a 2.5" drive to avoid the adapter.

There was plenty of space after installing the OS, but certain applications like to dump files onto the Local Disk even though they were installed on a different drive. Also, Windows likes to use space as "virtual RAM" to boot more quickly. Windows also uses some space for hibernation so that it can wake back up more quickly. I had to opt out of those features to save space and had to sacrifice about 5 seconds of boot time (no big deal). For these reasons I would recommend a larger SSD, like 64-128Gb.

Other Thoughts: SSD's require different maintenance than hard drives do. There are many references and programs you can use to keep your SSD running as it should. Remember to never defrag it; there is no reason to do so and it can shorten its lifetime.

TL;DR
There is nothing wrong with the SSD, but I would recommend one with more space and a 2.5" form factor. Crucial is a very trustworthy manufacturer.

3 out of 5 eggsCheck compatability carefully

Pros: Good brand, relatively inexpensive

Cons: Not compatible with my Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H mobo.

Other Thoughts: Unfortunately, most every mobo I know of currently supports SATA II, and this SSD is SATA III. While the spec is supposed to be backwards compatible, this is the strongest reason I can think of that it is not compatible with my mobo. Otherwise, judging by the brand and other reviews, it is a good SSD, so your mileage may vary.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks fine, saves space

Pros: I am using this as a boot drive and it is much faster than a standard mechanical hard drive. Also, it is mounted in a media center system that only has room for one 2.5" hard drive so this allows for quicker booting and OS functionality, while retaining the hard drive slot for data storage on a large capacity 7200 rpm drive.

Cons: Not as fast as expected, I have a laptop with an SSD drive that is appreciably faster. It also does not come with the screws to keep the mSATA card in place so I had to rig the card to keep it in it's slot.

5 out of 5 eggsDifficult to be disappointed

Pros: Price
Speed

Cons: None yet...

Other Thoughts: I bought few of them to use them has SSD caching (Intel SRT) in HP 8570w and they are perfect, no glitch whatsoever. They are delivering the the needed speed after few reboot. I recommend these little SSD to whoever wanna boost their computer. I guess they are also decent has a primary drive.

5 out of 5 eggsA great cache drive!

Pros: ~Picked up and utilized by Intel Rapid Storage immediately
~ Noticeably sped up HDD operations

Cons: ~No set screws included. If it's being used in a laptop (like mine), this can be problematic

Other Thoughts: I currently use this in my laptop as a cache drive. SSD for the OS, HDD for data, and this drive as a cache drive is a fantastic setup!
