1 out of 5 eggsOoops again, I too received mismatched sticks

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Profile Desktop Memory Model BLS2K8G3D1609ES2LX0

Pros: Got these fast, one day shipping from Newegg's warehouse.

They look nice.

Cons: I received one DIMM that was 1.5 volts and one that was 1.35 volts. I tried them on 3 different machines with ASRock, ASUS and Biostar motherboards.

Complete PITA.

Both DIMMs are factory marked "1.35 volts".

Completely disappointed here, the package is suspect but even if a return/refurb they should be of the same voltage.

Other Thoughts: Waste of my time and time is money.

5 out of 5 eggsWow!! Really fast delivery!!!!

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Profile Desktop Memory Model BLS2K8G3D1609ES2LX0

Pros: Low profile is exactly what it is! They almost disappear when you put them in the slots. I bought 2 sets, giving me 32 gigs & they are perfect. They do not use the standard 1.5V but less, which is great! I ordered these on a Thursday & received them the next day. That was very impressive! I originally purchased different ram, but they were to high & got in the way of the CPU liquid cooler. Really glad I purchased these. This is my first experience with Newegg & it was a great one. I will certainly be shopping here more often. :)

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I plan to eventually buy another 2 sets of these sticks, to give me 64 gigs of ram. Not that I will ever need that much, but with the rendering & video editing I do, better too much, then not enough. :)

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for tight spaces

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Profile Desktop Memory Model BLS2K8G3D1609ES2LX0

Pros: Extremely low profile. Basically the same height as the ends of normal DIMM slots. Run noticeably cooler than the 1.5V DIMMs they replaced. Made in USA.

Cons: 10-20% more expensive than regular-height DIMMs of equivalent speed.

Other Thoughts: Bought these to upgrade from 8GB to 16GB while also improving airflow in a very low-profile mini-ITX build. The previous DIMMs were G.SKILL Ares which aren't very tall, but they still kept airflow from the CPU fan from cooling the Pico-PSU and any components on that side of the board

I'm using these in an ASRock Z87E-ITX and I had read before that 1.35V DIMMs may not work without a BIOS upgrade. I did the BIOS upgrade first and these Crucial memory DIMMs had no issues. I have no need to overclock.

Specs for the rest of the system:

Casetronic/Travla C156 Chassis
Mini-Box picoPSU-120 Power Supply
Intel Core i7-4770S CPU
Akasa AK-CC7129BP01 CPU Cooler
Intel 530-series 240GB SSD
Silverstone SOB02 Slim Slot-load Blu-Ray

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Ram

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Profile Desktop Memory Model BLS2K8G3D1609ES2LX0

Pros: Great Ram, Owned them since 01/2013 and still no issues to this date of the review.
Since i've owned them, I've changed the timing while keeping the factory voltage, which is GREAT!
Highly recommended!!!

Cons: NONE!

5 out of 5 eggsVery low profile and solid RAM

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Profile Desktop Memory Model BLS2K8G3D1609ES2LX0

Pros: - Very low profile
- Reliable
- As fast as RAM needs to be

Cons: - None so far

Other Thoughts: Ordered 2 sticks (2x 8GB) and ran them through an overnight MemTest with absolutely zero problems. I'm always a bit on edge when ordering RAM and HDDs so it's a great feeling when things just work. I installed mine into an ASRock Z97 Extreme4 and the motherboard detected the correct RAM timings/voltages automatically on boot, no toying around required.

The low profile is very low - the securing latches on the RAM slots are higher than the sticks themselves. This allows for pretty much any choice of CPU cooler without concern of butting against the enormous fins of RipJaws and others. I installed the common Hyper 212 EVO onto my CPU and the fan clears the RAM with ample room to spare. If your CPU cooler won't fit over this RAM then it's not fitting anywhere.

I tax my RAM heavily, loading dense sample libraries and pulling from them in multiple simultaneous instances. This RAM performs as well as I need it to and runs as cool as it needs to be. I've come to the conclusion that the fancy cooling fins of "professional" RAM is all just marketing and glam. Get this RAM and forget about concerns of temperature or high profiles interfering. Hassle free.

5 out of 5 eggsLow profile!

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Profile Desktop Memory Model BLS2K8G3D1609ES2LX0

Pros: Low profile, uses less electricity, good timings

Cons: I can't think of anything!

Other Thoughts: I bought this kit for a brand new i5 system. My previous system was a C2Q with DDR2. I recently spent around $150 on a pair of 2GB DDR2 sticks for that system. It failed not long after, so I was really shocked to get two 8GB sticks of DDR3 for almost the same price!

This RAM uses less electricity. RAM doesn't really add a huge amount of heat to a system, but this does reduce the memory's running temperature. I have no plans to OC or play with memory timings, so this is more than sufficient to play FS X, Minecraft, and various MMO's. In fact, having 16 GB available means I can run MASSIVE modpacks in Minecraft, and it can load it all into RAM. 8GB isn't enough, 16 GB is barely enough. Planning on buying another kit to give me 32 GB to play with!

5 out of 5 eggsgood stuff

This review is from: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Profile Desktop Memory Model BLS2K8G3D1609ES2LX0

Pros: RAM memory that just works is the best memory there is. This is one such example. Recognized, XMP profile works, low voltage, low profile

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: works and the price was right
