5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Crucial M500 CT240M500SSD1 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Crucial Quality and Service.
Fast and reliable.

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: I bought 4 of these to use in a RAID 0 (attached to an LSI 9260-8i).
I'm having absolutely no problems with any of them at all so far.
two of them had the latest firmware, while the other two were one rev down. They are working fine together as is, but it's best to keep all firmware fully up to date.
Note that if you use these on a RAID controller, you won't be able to upgrade the firmware until you connect them to a SATA port on your mainboard most likely

5 out of 5 eggsOverall Great.

This review is from: Crucial M500 CT240M500SSD1 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Overall a great drive, runs cool, basically plug & play. Price at the time was great, and even better now.

Cons: Needed to upgrade firmware from U03 to U05 as the stock must have been older. Even with the new firmware the power on hours are inaccurate.

Other Thoughts: Overall I like to pick SSD's that are a little older (6-8 months) as to keep the bugs to a minimum. This drive delivered a trouble free configuration and shows a great track record.

2 out of 5 eggsUpdate to my previous post...

This review is from: Crucial M500 CT240M500SSD1 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: 4 of the 6 drives work great.

Cons: I have been forced to work with tech support to get two replacement drives for the defective units. While their support was helpful, and I really like the chat support option, their procedures are flawed. I have been told to ship the defective parts back at my expense so I can wait even more time for replacements to be sent out. When I asked if they offer an advanced shipment arrangement, they told me I had to purchase two new drives, then return the defective drives for a full refund, minus tax and shipping. This disappoints my greatly since the defective drives are blue screening multiple times per day, but would still allow me to clone the data to the replacement drives.

Two eggs for the return process.

Other Thoughts: If it works, its great.

If its broke, good luck.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive.. Very Fast

This review is from: Crucial M500 CT240M500SSD1 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: My first attempt at using a SSD and man is it fast. My computer is completely off and it has me at the desktop in 10.5 seconds. I haven't noticed any heat issues at all and so far it is a great addition to my rig,

Cons: None

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent Value!

This review is from: Crucial M500 CT240M500SSD1 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast
7mm or 9mm (with stick-on spacer)
Value

Cons: Crucial SSD utility does not exist
There are faster drives (but few in this price range)
No cloning software included

Other Thoughts: This was a great buy. Everything just worked the way as anticipated (I used Acronis Clone Disk function booted from CD and connected the SSD to the PC using a cheap SATA-USB adapter). The hardest part was working with the tiny screws in my laptop. I am getting about 490MB/s reads according to AS SSD Benchmark. My i7 lappie now goes from power-up to all my many startup programs running in 18 seconds. Wow!

I only knocked an egg off since Crucial does not offer a utility to control certain functions (like Secure Erase which returns the drive to its original condition) and monitoring. Hopefully they are working on such a thing.

My drive shipped with MU05 (the latest) firmware. If you have MU03, a downloadable file (for Windows) is available on their web site.

5 out of 5 eggsSpeedy

This review is from: Crucial M500 CT240M500SSD1 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: It's a speedy little thing. Combined with Windows 8.1, I'm on my desktop in under 20 seconds from powering on my computer.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: It seems pretty hard to go wrong with SSDs these days. No moving parts, so there's that.

4 out of 5 eggsSo Far, So Good

This review is from: Crucial M500 CT240M500SSD1 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: It's a little cheaper than I thought it would be, which is always a nice thing. The drive is fast and so far reliable. Plus, 240 GB is plenty of space for me.

Cons: Nothing at the moment.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat

This review is from: Crucial M500 CT240M500SSD1 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast, cheap, seems to be pretty reliable.

Cons: No cloning software but you can just download some for free if you don't want to do a fresh install.

Not as high of read/write speeds as samsungs**

Other Thoughts: Don't get to caught up with all the read/write speeds, most of those are obtained using synthetic benchmarks and are not indicative of real world performance.

I boot to desktop and can open applications in under 15 seconds from the time the bios appears and thats with SATA 2 ports. I have the Marvell SATA 3 ports but they are junk and offer little to no performace gain just use the Intel ports.
