5 out of 5 eggsGreat SSD for a lower than average price.

This review is from: Crucial M500 480GB SATA 2.5" 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) Internal Solid State Drive CT480M500SSD1

Pros: Cheaper than other 500GB-class SSD's
Decent read speeds
Looks durable
System boots up very fast, computer became "snappier", games load much faster (especially Skyrim and ARMA 2), Adobe CS6 programs also faster and easier to work with

Cons: Not the best write speeds, but generally not noticeable to the general user
You have to go through a painful procedure to install firmware if running Windows 8

Other Thoughts: I bought the 480GB version of this SSD to use as the primary boot drive with some games and the full suit of Adobe CS6. The SSD is running alongside a 2TB WD Black drive for the rest of the games and programs. Everything seems to run fine. CrystalDiskMark shows read speeds of around 480MB/s and write speeds of around 420MB/s when the SSD was around 20% full. Not bad at all. Would recommend to anyone looking for a cheap, nice 480GB drive

5 out of 5 eggsFills the need for Warp Speed!

This review is from: Crucial M500 480GB SATA 2.5" 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) Internal Solid State Drive CT480M500SSD1

Pros: Upgraded a 4 year old I-7 HP laptop with the Crucial 480gb SSD, boot time was not significantly altered at first. Upgraded the firmware and poof...... Windows 7 with all my active programs are up and running in 12 Seconds! I had read the reviews and was skeptical I would get this performance on my machine. No longer. Planning another purchase for the wife's desktop. Can't see a down side to this drive. Inexpensive as they go, and quick. Programs open in a flash. I won't be looking at a new laptop for a while now.

Cons: Needs updated firmware version MU05, No cloning software.

5 out of 5 eggs1st SSD rocks!

This review is from: Crucial M500 480GB SATA 2.5" 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) Internal Solid State Drive CT480M500SSD1

Pros: Replaced Seagate 1.5 TB 7200 RPM, speeds have been cut in half for startup, shutdown, program launches even faster. Overall has improved my computer and I'm very happy with it. Thanks to a newegg sale I scored it under 200 bucks

Cons: No software (had to download something called paragon (which worked great to clone my c drive btw)

4 out of 5 eggsCrucial M500 SATA III 480GB 2.5" SSD - Good Reliable Drive

This review is from: Crucial M500 480GB SATA 2.5" 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) Internal Solid State Drive CT480M500SSD1

Pros: - Inexpensive on Sale
- Fast
- Reliable, So Far.
- Easy Installation
- Rugged Construction

Cons: - No Disc Cloning Software Included.

Other Thoughts: I have owned Crucial, Seagate, OCZ, Samsung, Intel, and Kingston SSD's. I install them as OS drives in servers and Main Drives in Laptops. The Crucial M500 in 240, 480, and 512GB capacities have proven to be fast (WEI score of 7.9 on Windows 7 Pro OS) and reliable when set up properly. I have Crucial M500 SSD's installed in servers operating 24/7 for more than a year and have had ZERO failures or complaints.

In that time, I have had more than 50% failure rate for the Samsung 840 series SSD's. Those are more expensive and less reliable. I do not recommend those.

When Newegg puts these Crucial M500 drives on sale, they have been the best Price/Performance/Reliability of all the SSD's I have tested or installed to date. I did not give these drives 5 eggs because I only have about 1 years experience with them. If they continue to perform this well for another year or more, I'll write a new review really praising them.

5 out of 5 eggsCRUCIAL M500 480GB SATA

This review is from: Crucial M500 480GB SATA 2.5" 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) Internal Solid State Drive CT480M500SSD1

Pros: Love this drive. Brought this three year old laptop back to life. So much faster than conventional drive. Thanks New Egg for adding the free enclosure because I didn't realize that would be necessary for transferring the data from my old drive.

Cons: none

1 out of 5 eggsWas good for a while

This review is from: Crucial M500 480GB SATA 2.5" 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) Internal Solid State Drive CT480M500SSD1

Pros: Was faster than old HDD.

Cons: Blue screens at least once a day, always while I'm in the middle of a game.

Other Thoughts: I was impressed with this until it started acting up. It blue screens at least once a day. I put in my old HDD and it works fine. I can see why this one is so inexpensive. It's not built to last more than a month. I got a lemon and I'd love to get my money back. I am not pleased, nor would I buy another SSD from Crucial since this is my only experience with them and it ends in dissatisfaction.

5 out of 5 eggsNeed for speed?

This review is from: Crucial M500 480GB SATA 2.5" 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) Internal Solid State Drive CT480M500SSD1

Pros: Fits older sata laptops w/ adaptor ring. Fast, Flawless, User friendly.

Cons: No cloning software, Manual Online. Bare drive only.

Other Thoughts: Replaced a Toshiba 7200rpm laptop drive which was no slouch in it's own right. All programs loaded and accessible in about 12 seconds as opposed to about a minute previously. HP Envy 14 I-7 quad core ( gen 1) about 4 yrs. old. Now Comparable to anything out there today.

5 out of 5 eggsIncredible upgrade of spinning hdd

This review is from: Crucial M500 480GB SATA 2.5" 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) Internal Solid State Drive CT480M500SSD1

Pros: Really fast. Totally silent. I type my password into Windows and my desktop appears. I click on a program and it opens.

Cons: None, other than price but SSD still expensive compared to spinning platter hdd.

Other Thoughts: This is the 480GB version. I still have my old hd hooked up and bootable with some games i dont want to take up space on my SSD.
The difference between loading windows is quite astounding. The 'usuable desktop' times are in different universes. The old hd will take a few minutes before the avg disk queue length reaches <1 after login. The SSD takes approximately 5 seconds to reach avg queue length of less than 1. Opening programs is instant. BF4 map changes are about 10-15 seconds on SSD, if that compared to nearly a minute on older hdd.
