5 out of 5 eggsAn amazing value

This review is from: Crucial M500 CT960M500SSD1 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) 2.5" 960GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: This is a very quick drive that has proven to be reliable as well. There are faster drives on the market with more features, but for the everyman this drive exceeds expectations.

Cons: None thus far.

Other Thoughts: If you're looking for a large SSD, look no further.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Crucial M500 CT960M500SSD1 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) 2.5" 960GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast, reliable, and good price per GB

Cons: not the fastest when compared to Samsung SSDs

Other Thoughts: Bought this over the Samsung since it had a better price point, capacitor to prevent data loss, and good speeds. I don't game or do video editing so I didn't need the fastest SSD out there. Reliability was the main reason and reasonable value vs speed. I've compared it to a Samsung 850Pro and its about 15% slower read/write tested on a similar machine. That said, I don't think I'd notice that difference on a daily basis.

5 out of 5 eggsJustGotIt

This review is from: Crucial M500 CT960M500SSD1 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) 2.5" 960GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: its big and fast, its an SSD. HD Tunes shows 191.2 MB/sec on SATA II controller with 0.1ms average access time with no drop outs. It compares favorably with other SSD I have tested on the same controller. Tech support answered the phone right away (Wed 10am)

Cons: its only 894Gb if you use base 2 Gigabytes.

Other Thoughts: WD Diags showed a smart error on id=B4 on both drives. I called tech support just to check, they answered the support line right away. Looks like a false positive, I also tried HD Tune and it displayed B4 as ok and all other tests were ok.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth it

This review is from: Crucial M500 CT960M500SSD1 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) 2.5" 960GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast, simple, RAIDable, no issues

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Bought 4 of them plus dedicated 8 port SATA3 RAID controller. Needed 2Tb for image processing. Don't trust RAID0 (which isn't RAID), so I run them in RAID10 for speed and redundancy (because I believe anything can fail)
Old server was very bogged down with RAID10 of 1Tb 7200RPM HDDs while processing 500 image per minute (300,000 images per day) - barely keeping up. New server with SSDs can process nearly 2000 image per minute.

1 out of 5 eggslasted all of 3 months

This review is from: Crucial M500 CT960M500SSD1 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) 2.5" 960GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Price per GIG and performance when it worked.

Cons: Cannot do SSD RMA through the website. Tech support expertise is very weak...looks like they are following a set script w/o understanding.

RMA is a difficult process unless you bought it directly from Crucial.

Other Thoughts: I have both the 120GB and 960GB version of this SSD.

960GB version died after 3 months of usage. When I tried to do a RMA through Crucial (bought it from either NewEgg orFry's, long after 30 day return window), it was very difficult to say the least.

I got directed toward a support tech who was sure that the issue was either idle time and/or BIOS setting even though it stopped with the same BIOS setting with idle time of hours b/w connection to power.

Basically, it never gets recognized no matter.

120GB version is going strong.

Crucial's customer service is lacking compared to other vendors like Seagate and OCZ (I have 3 year old OCZ SSD which is still working fine to this day).
