5 out of 5 eggsNice Upgrade Dell E6440

This review is from: Crucial M500 CT240M500SSD3 240GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Price. You've got a bunch of choices, and if you are buying on price you cannot go wrong here.

I can confirm this works as an extra drive in a Dell Latitude E6440 i7 4600M -- you need to remove the corner cover to get it into the slot...

Cons: (1) Power consumption is a bit high (by comparison to other SSD devices), so you might prefer to spend more on a lower power device if this is to be your boot drive in a net top or tablet.

See other thoughts.

(2) Seq Write speed is only around 250mbps. This is typically not a big deal as read speed is the one you are more likely to notice. I guess if you are constantly writing big files, you might care, otherwise no biggie.

Other Thoughts: I'm using this in a laptop (E6440) that already has a SSD for the OS. So this drive will be primarily hosting virtual machine vhd files -- allowing virtual machines to start and run quickly without consuming valuable OS drive space. Seems a pretty good config for those of you who use windows 8.1's ability to host virtual machines.

Because of this, both the power consumption and write speed are not issues for me. As a secondary drive, the OS puts it to sleep after 10 minutes of disuse - so no extra drain on my batteries when traveling. When I'm using the drive, its usually at my desk because I'm doing something with a VM.

Once the VM's are set up on the drive, its read speed that really governs performance.

Nice drive, good price. The newer version from crucial, the M550 is quite a bit more expensive, but resolves both the speed and power consumption issues.

As someone else said, don't be afraid to buy this drive, especially on sale.

5 out of 5 eggsGood but hot

This review is from: Crucial M500 CT240M500SSD3 240GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: - Good read/write speed, especially coming from an HDD
- Much cheaper than other current mSATA SSDs

Cons: - Runs pretty hot

Other Thoughts: If you don't have a lot of money to shell out on an mSATA, i'd recommend this one. It may not be as fast as others that are currently available, but it comes at a fraction of the cost and it's from a reliable brand.

4 out of 5 eggshappy with my purchase

This review is from: Crucial M500 CT240M500SSD3 240GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Works as advertised. There was a bit of trouble installing with Windows 8 UEFI installed on the other hard drive. More the computer than the drive but it was frustrating. Speed tests were nearly exactly what was advertised. Got what I paid for and since its "old" it was easy on the wallet.

Cons: It does get hot. It does not have a temperature sensor but it gets hot. The average response time is not that great when compared with other SSD drives

Other Thoughts: Its still pretty freakin great. I have a Vertex 4 (which is crazy fast) and the samsung 840EVO which is quick but mostly because of the 12 gigs of Ram the RAPID mode uses as cache. This drive is a nice quick speed. Boots windows 8.1 in like 5 seconds. No SSD is going to really make you wait. This is no exception. If your looking for price its great. If you are looking for speed there are faster, but you will literally need to benchmark to see the difference. Once you go SSD, There is no past, only your new life not waiting for your computer to do things. Hurry up and buy because the price will go down one day and youll feel bad sooner that its not worth as much as you paid 30 days ago.... enjoy technology. :)

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome drive!!!

This review is from: Crucial M500 CT240M500SSD3 240GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: The speed is incredible!!!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Don't be afraid to purchase this drive. I bought it as an image drive in my laptop. The main drive is the Samsung 840 Evo SSD. Once I had all my programs and games installed I cloned the drive onto the Crucial drive. It took less than 10 minutes to clone using Acronis. Then I go into the device manager and disable the drive so as not to accidentally corrupt the OS or delete something critical. Now if things get hairy I just clone the image back to the Samsung and I am brand new again.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat's to complain about?

This review is from: Crucial M500 CT240M500SSD3 240GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Great read/write speeds. Very easy on the wallet. No complaints here. Using this as a storage drive, have another SSD as the original installed with OS.

It doesn't require mounting in the HDD bays either.

Cons: None that I can think of.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat SSD

This review is from: Crucial M500 CT240M500SSD3 240GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Has no problem reaching Crucial-provided transfer speeds, so take those as relatively accurate.
This SSD has remained reliable since I've purchased it.
It's not the fastest SSD out there, but I was willing to give up SandForce-type speeds for an SSD with reliable controller.

Cons: I have no cons to share.

Other Thoughts: I swear by the two main memory manufacturers for SSDs: Samsung and Crucial.

Installed in an Acer M5-581TG.

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointing SSD

This review is from: Crucial M500 CT240M500SSD3 240GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Reasonable price on sale for 112. Bought to replace 500 gig 7200 rpm Seagate SATA II hard drive.

Cons: My old 7200 rpm SATA Seagate boots into Windows 7 faster, and most programs open faster with old drive. Was disappointer based on some Sandisk and OCZ 60/120 dives that really booked for lowly XP laptops

5 out of 5 eggsNice and fast!

This review is from: Crucial M500 CT240M500SSD3 240GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: mSATA, nice speed and just plugged in and worked with a new Intel NUC. M500 series is now "old", so pick these up at a real discount over the newer M550 series. Very attractive price.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: At the time of this review, these are substantially discounted as "old".

5 out of 5 eggsFast drive runs a little warm

This review is from: Crucial M500 CT240M500SSD3 240GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Quick, came with current firmware loaded.

Cons: ran hot during my benchmark test almost hit 70C open air, from what I read the drive will begin to throttle down at temp.
