5 out of 5 eggsNice n Fast

3 out of 5 eggsGood Price

Pros: Sata III

Cons: Not the increase in speed I expected

Other Thoughts: Installed into a Dell Inspiron 1764; i5 processor w/ 8 GB RAM. I had a 7500 rpm mechanical drive in the box previously. Although a tad faster, it isn't what I expected based upon reviews of SSD's I have read. It IS faster, but not 300 bucks worth of faster.

5 out of 5 eggsCrucial HD to SSD Upgrade

Pros: Everything that I've heard about the positive aspects of the SSD is true. Dropped the existing HD from a business desktop and cloned it into the SSD. Zero issues cloning the drive and boots are unbelievable!! Even regular operations are so much faster. Comparisons between the duo core system using the SSD is equal to the high end Quad core using standard HD. Have to pull the HD from the high end now!

5 days hard use has shown the drive exceeding all expectations. Even during hardest levels of performance shows SSD operating well within specs. No temp issues at while residing next to old style HD.

Cons: No cons at all from me.

The few stories I've heard about the cons of SSDs have not been seen at this time. Testing in particular of the temp issues during hard use has not shown up at all.

Other Thoughts: Something I wish I had tested for, to get actual numbers, would be the db level drop experienced when changing over to SSD. I do have a slight hearing issue but the noise level has dropped enough that it is very noticeable to me.

As a subjective note, the case feels somewhat cooler as well since the change over to SSD. I have no numbers to prove it but i do believe it is a real change due to the reduction in the number of watts use to run the SSD vs. the old HD

When prices drop to the $0.65/GB to $0.50/GB level, I will be looking at replacing everyone of the old spinning HDs I have with SSDs. Presently converting the OS HD on another desktop to SSD.

Seriously going to look at converting two personal servers over to SSD or doing a server build using exclusively SSD within it.
