5 out of 5 eggsFast SSD

This review is from: Crucial M550 2.5" 512GB SATA 6Gbps MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CT512M550SSD1

Pros: Fast, paid about $155 on sale 9 months ago, still runs great.

Cons: Once in a blue moon, on boot up the mobo won't recognize the SSD. Forcing me to unplug the power, then it will boot up fine. Sometimes the SSD will hang, forcing me to reboot, only to not be recognized by the mobo. Not sure if it's a mobo issue, or SSD issue. My guess is SSD, since it's never happened with my regular 7200 WD Black drive.

Other Thoughts: the hang/freeze thing happens rarely, but it can be annoying.

3 out of 5 eggsnice but windows dont see in raid 0 to install

This review is from: Crucial M550 2.5" 512GB SATA 6Gbps MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CT512M550SSD1

Pros: super fast stable great product

Cons: I have and AMD , CROSSHAIR IV EXTREME motherboard, windows 7 64bit and windows 8.1 64bit
will not see them in raid 0, or any kind of raid. but the motherboard bios would see the raid and set up fine. which sucks I bought 2 of these . I have searched the web trying to see what I could do but could not find a fix.

Other Thoughts: well I guess I got lucky I paid 279 for these and now they are over 600 wow that's crazy

2 out of 5 eggsDied in just over 2 months

This review is from: Crucial M550 2.5" 512GB SATA 6Gbps MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CT512M550SSD1

Pros: Very fast while it lasted, everything I could ask for at a great price

Cons: It died in on 03/10/2015. I bought it on 1/5/2015. With delivery time I barely had it 2 months.

Other Thoughts: May just be a bad unit, now i have to test out the warranty, I'll let you know how that goes.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Performance & Price

This review is from: Crucial M550 2.5" 512GB SATA 6Gbps MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CT512M550SSD1

Pros: Easy to install, smoking fast performance, very affordable. Want a faster computer? Put a solid state drive in it. Period.

Cons: You have to purchase a carrier so it will fit in most desktops. But other than that...it's awesome!

Other Thoughts: My other thoughts are not related and probably not that important to you.

1 out of 5 eggsBad Service

This review is from: Crucial M550 2.5" 512GB SATA 6Gbps MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CT512M550SSD1

Pros: Fast SSD card.

Cons: Software applications would hang. Did low level reformat of drive. Reinstalled applications. No fix. Returned for a replacement, but Newegg issued a refund instead for $2.00 less that what they charged.

Other Thoughts: I would have preferred a new SSD instead of a refund for less than what I paid.

5 out of 5 eggsFast, reliable SSDs from a trusted manufacturer

This review is from: Crucial M550 2.5" 512GB SATA 6Gbps MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CT512M550SSD1

Pros: The Crucial M550 line of SSDs are fast and compatible. One really good feature is the fact that it's very easy to update the firmware on them, because Crucial provides a Linux boot image for the purpose - just burn it to a CD or USB thumb drive and go.

Cons: n/a

Other Thoughts: n/a

5 out of 5 eggsQuality Product

This review is from: Crucial M550 2.5" 512GB SATA 6Gbps MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CT512M550SSD1

Pros: It was an easy and smooth clone of my ailing drive with Macrium Reflect's free version. I'm enjoying the faster speed when booting, and loading games. I got a good price on a Newegg sale $165.98. Thanks NE I can always buy with confidence with your review system, and I always seem to find a good deal.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I can hardly wait for the prices on SSDs to drop as I want to get a 1TB someday. When they get down to around $200 I'll bite.

2 out of 5 eggsFalse advertisement

This review is from: Crucial M550 2.5" 512GB SATA 6Gbps MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CT512M550SSD1

Pros: SSD, no moving parts, less energy consumption, comparatively lot better speed than conventional hard disks.

Cons: 512 GB? I got 476 GB formatted space. The math doesn't seem to add up. (512*1000)/1024. This one is equivalent to 490 GB.

Other Thoughts: For the price I paid ($165) this is not bad.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Choice

This review is from: Crucial M550 2.5" 512GB SATA 6Gbps MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CT512M550SSD1

Pros: Purchased with Acronis software. Trouble free installation in a Lenovo W530. Laptop is used professionally. Boot time, though considerably faster, is not a concern. Use with VMware, 32 GB Linux images is where it absolutely shines. I keep seven of these images on my laptop.

I develop and support customer specific Linux systems. VMware allows me to switch between customer specific images. Boot times are 5-10 times faster. Saving the image is 10-15 seconds versus 2 - 3 minutes on a hard drive.

I use a MSATA for an in-system backup for frequent backups and use a NAS for periodic backups.

Cons: None.
