Do more. Faster. Longer.

A breakthrough in innovation, the Crucial® M550 SSD is over 20 times faster than a typical hard drive* and consumes significantly less power. It enables your computer to boot up almost immediately, load files and programs almost instantly, accelerate demanding applications, and manage power so that your battery lasts up to 50 minutes longer. Backed by the most advanced feature set available - Native Write Acceleration, RAIN technology, Adaptive Thermal Protection, hardware-based encryption, and our exclusive data integrity algorithm - the Crucial M550 delivers a complete performance gain that's measured by far more than just specs.

Consistently fast speeds. No exceptions.

Every manufacturer has ideas about how to deliver better performance. Some use file compression schemes, but those don't help video, audio, or graphic files that are already compressed. Some steal system memory to improve a slow drive. The Crucial M550 treats all files the same, regardless of whether they're compressed or uncompressed, so the specs we advertise are the same ones you'll see in real world use: true 550 MB/s sequential reads across all file types.

Download large files in seconds, rather than minutes.

Our engineers are relentless and passionate about the products they create. To deliver consistently fast write performance, they developed a more efficient and dependable way to write data called Native Write Acceleration. This technology spreads the drive's workload across several elements, and links the controller, custom firmware, and flash storage components together, enabling you to achieve inherently faster downloads, saves, and file transfers.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: When is works its super fast but then it wont boot the next time i think its a motherboard compatibility issue even those the mother board recommends it.

The mother board

4 out of 5 eggsBe mindful of the interface

Pros: M.2 is an amazing form factor. It does away with power and data cables and is very low profile. Fantastic.

I never got this drive to work but that's my fault. I can't give the full 5-stars because I don't know, but I'm sure it's great.

Cons: Green PCB is unfortunate. Black is much more colour neutral and fits the "stealthy" element which appeals to me so much.

SATA interface is not ideal. See other thoughts

Other Thoughts: I mistakenly bought this believing it would work on my Rampage V Extreme but it does not. That motherboard only supports PCI-E based drives, and this one is SATA III based. This is a very important distinction you should make sure that you triple-check.

After talking with an ASUS representative in one of the tech communities, I understand why they skipped out on SATA based M.2 support. The SATA III interface is already saturated whereas the PCI-E interface is not.

SATA based M.2 only has the advantage of not using up PCI-E lanes which will become relevant if you are into 4-way GPU configurations. I'm not, so I am, in the end, happier to have ended up with a drive that is almost twice as fast as its SATA counterpart.

5 out of 5 eggsIt works - great idea

Pros: 1. Works
2. Fast
3. Does not eat up a hard drive bay

Cons: 1. 80mm is longer than some laptops will accept

Other Thoughts: The M.2 sata port is newer. I have an ATX motherboard with it, that I am building a HTPC machine with. Great boot drive. It does not use up a valuable hard drive slot.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat SSD card

Pros: This is a great value for a fast SSD card. The write speeds of the M550 are much better than the M500 series SSDs.

Got up to 370MB per second write speed as advertised. Got up to 490MB per second read speed, slightly below advertised speed based upon CrystalDiskMark.

My Lenovo Yoga 2 13 with the SSD now benchmarks (PCMark 7 and Passmark 8) higher than normal Yoga 2 Pros of the same CPU type because of the M550 write speed.

According to powercfg /batteryreport, my battery life went from about 7 hours 10 minutes before the SSD to 8 hours 30 minutes after the SSD. Most of this is browsing and email.

Cons: No mounting screw included in packaging.

Other Thoughts: The Yoga 2 13 (non-pro) comes with a 500GB SSHD drive and an empty M.2 SSD type 2280 slot. I added this M550 card.

I used Macrium Reflect to backup my original HD and restore it to the SSD drive. I removed one recovery partition because Lenovo OneKey recovery will not work when it finds two recovery partitions.

I now have a 128GB SSD Windows boot drive and a 500GB media storage drive inside my Yoga.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat product

Pros: Price is right for an SSD of this form factor

Cons: M.2 / NGFF have specific lengths... i bought this intending to use with Maximus VI Formula Motherboard but is too long to fit. recommed more reseach for buyers

Other Thoughts: found a NGFF to Sata III Adapter and will use in another system.
