Do more. Faster. Longer.

A breakthrough in innovation, the Crucial® M550 SSD is over 20 times faster than a typical hard drive* and consumes significantly less power. It enables your computer to boot up almost immediately, load files and programs almost instantly, accelerate demanding applications, and manage power so that your battery lasts up to 50 minutes longer. Backed by the most advanced feature set available - Native Write Acceleration, RAIN technology, Adaptive Thermal Protection, hardware-based encryption, and our exclusive data integrity algorithm - the Crucial M550 delivers a complete performance gain that's measured by far more than just specs.

Consistently fast speeds. No exceptions.

Every manufacturer has ideas about how to deliver better performance. Some use file compression schemes, but those don't help video, audio, or graphic files that are already compressed. Some steal system memory to improve a slow drive. The Crucial M550 treats all files the same, regardless of whether they're compressed or uncompressed, so the specs we advertise are the same ones you'll see in real world use: true 550 MB/s sequential reads across all file types.

Download large files in seconds, rather than minutes.

Our engineers are relentless and passionate about the products they create. To deliver consistently fast write performance, they developed a more efficient and dependable way to write data called Native Write Acceleration. This technology spreads the drive's workload across several elements, and links the controller, custom firmware, and flash storage components together, enabling you to achieve inherently faster downloads, saves, and file transfers.

5 out of 5 eggsFast Little Drive

Pros: Title says it all. The drive is Fast and the drive is little. I ran Parkdale on the drive after install. I got 517Mbps for Seq Read and 418Mbps for Seq Write. That is 2 times faster for both read and write then my old Samsung 840 Pro Series SSD.

As I said the drive is little. Total size is about 1" Wide by 3" Long. I was shocked how small it was when I received it. Not sure why, but by the picture I was expecting something a little bigger.

The drive was on sale for ~$280 when I bought mine. ~$280 for 512GB...NICE!

Cons: None.

Although make sure your MB not only has and M.2 connector but it will take a M.2, Type 2280 Drive. It should, but better to be safe than sorry. I researched this extensively before purchasing.

5 out of 5 eggsFatal1ty x99m Killer

Pros: This drive is extremely fast and allows me to use the only 2 3.5" bays in my case for storage drives. 0.5TB is the ideal size I was looking for to have a snappy boot drive for fast media center/internet loading. I know people are saying that you should use the pcie interface drives just because you have the ability, but the price difference can't be justified.

Cons: none!

Other Thoughts: Crucial's website states for this drive, "this part is not compatible" with your motherboard (ASRock Fatal1ty x99m Killer). I didn't realize this until after my purchase, but I assume it means that the part has not been tested for compatibility/reliability? I haven't run into a problem yet regardless, and this is after many reboots and sleep/wake cycles.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive!

Pros: This is a very fast high capacity drive, and it worked perfectly for me right away.
Small form factor is great. No need to take up one of your limited 2.5" HD slots in your notebook if you have this. I can put 4 of these into a space smaller than a single 2.5" drive. This allows me to use a less expensive spindle drive for data storage.

Cons: None to speak of. The higher price is to be expected for a new technology such as this.

Other Thoughts: I have only had this drive for a short period of time, however I have had no issues so far. If this changes I will update the review, but I expect that the drive will be fine. Crucial is a good brand, and my past experience has shown that they stand by their products.

5 out of 5 eggsCrazy Fast

Pros: -Fast install
-No reason for installing Driver's
-Ultra Low power needs
-0.5 Tb of drive storage make it a great drive
-Speed of read and Write more than stated

Cons: -Expensive
-M.2 only connection.

Other Thoughts: My New X99 board has the on board m.2 connection and bio recognized them perfectly and first time. This is a great speed for a large capacity drive.

3 out of 5 eggsWindows 7 problems but fast

Pros: Really fast in a Gigabyte Z97MX gaming 5 board when it works. New windows7 installation.

Cons: Mostly will not boot because bios can't see it. Particular after sleep. Switching the power supply off and on will help eventually. But annoying. Anyway no support from Gigabyte or Crucial to speak off. Of course Microsoft does't care either.

1 out of 5 eggsUnstable

Pros: Huge amount of storage space (~480 GB usable)

Cons: I received a defective drive. (see below)

Other Thoughts: I installed this inside inside my Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen2, and initially it ran great. However, it would periodically become unresponsive and Windows 8.1 would crash to a BIOS error saying that the drive was undetectable. After 2 weeks I decided to return it to Newegg, even though otherwise the drive was great and I would have really enjoyed the storage.

1 out of 5 eggsTwo defective drives!

Pros: The drive boots up fairly fast, and offered performance comparable with my 2.5" form factor Samsung Evo 840

Cons: Well... the first drive I got was defective after the first night... I loaded windows on it and installed a few applications... then the next morning I turned on my computer and it wasn't recognized. I reseated the drive and it booted up exactly once before not being able to be read at all.

The second (replacement) drive arrived and I installed Windows and several of my programs... 3 days later it no longer works. I shut the computer down and when I went to turn it on it just won't read anymore.

Other Thoughts: I would wait until this technology is more mature before buying... it wasn't actually any faster than a 2.5" form factor, even though it costs a bit more.
