5 out of 5 eggsThe Price is Right

This review is from: Crucial MX100 CT128MX100SSD1 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Price
Quality
Compatibility

Cons: For the price, none

I ordered one of these and had some minor problems with it out of the box, so a call to Crucial determined it would be best to return it for a replacement. That's the first time I have ever had a problem with a Crucial/Lexar/Micron product. The RMA process went smoothly and I was shipped a new replacement before I returned the original (charged my credit card and refunded the money once they received the original).

Other Thoughts: If using Bitlocker encryption, the secure erase feature of the drive will be disabled by Bitlocker. The only way to unlock that feature again is to use a utility written by a third party (but recommended by Crucial) to perform a 'PSID revert' so you can securely erase the drive (set the memory cells of the SSD to empty, unlike a HDD where you set the bits to zeros or whatever). Crucial doesn't offer a way to do this through software of their own as some other manufacturers do. It's no big deal to me, but it was a little annoying at first thinking that I couldn't securely erase the drive because of once using Bitlocker.

5 out of 5 eggsMX100 128GB

This review is from: Crucial MX100 CT128MX100SSD1 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Pros I picked it up on a special for 64.99
And definitely would suggest this drive if you need a 128 gb main drive. (119gb formatted)

see below

Cons: its still not 64.99. :( They really should include aside from true image to clone your old hdd/ssd to it, some type of optimization software should be included. Even though I agree with the person I talked with in tech that most general users don't use the software.

Other Thoughts: I wanted to real world compare the mx100 to my 840 Samsung evo 250 gig Kingston 120 gig (old 5.05 v not the new pot luck version) and an OCZ ARC 100 120g (borrowed tester) all had the same cloned image put on them. I know most yell you need to do a fresh install but the average person clones/images from old drive to new. Im not going to get into speed ratings bla bla but in general for system feel. boot times, file transfers (big and small) You could not tell any diff between the evo and the mx100. Which I thought was interesting since the mx is smaller. I know people will say use the rapid mode on the evo but thats not real word for most. The OCZ you could feel slowness at times its hard to word but it was there. The Kingston v300 drive felt like you stepped back to a reg HDD when that was plugged in.. This is just my 2cts on what my experiences were and hopefully it helps someone.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid for the price

This review is from: Crucial MX100 CT128MX100SSD1 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I use this for the OS boot drive. It was easy to install and performs like I anticipated it would. If I were using an SSD for other applications, I would likely use a Samsung, but I have had no problems. Windows 8.1 boots ~12 sec.

Cons: None, so far

5 out of 5 eggsexcellent performance/price

This review is from: Crucial MX100 CT128MX100SSD1 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: SSDs are a snap to use.

Cons: You should avoid running disk cleaner type utilities. I am told (but do not know) that it can shorten the life of the SSD. Research it for yourself.

Other Thoughts: All my builds use SSDs now - except for TB video storage.

5 out of 5 eggsSSD's can now be standard!

This review is from: Crucial MX100 CT128MX100SSD1 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Price. This is the first 16nm SSD. AnandTech does a good review stating that the process that makes these NAND chips different is same thing Intel did (high-K/3D NANDa). Anyways these are great for the consumer. Drives that are affordable and perform well. You can get a 256gb (240GB actually) for around $100 soon. This means average consumers can afford great boot times, faster system response, quick level loading for games, just about everything is improved and you finally have a decent amount of room for a decent price!

It's not as fast as my samsung evo. I think that felt a little faster in the system but I think my games take about twice as long to load. 2-3 seconds on Skyrim doors and almost 15! seconds for battlefield. Which is actually quite good, just not the best. So above average speed. Maybe the fact that I got the smaller drive hindered this but my EVO was a chunk faster - but everything is still definitely fast. It's fun now, not a trial of patience - to use Windows. Everything is buttery smooth. Tabs in Chrome open so fast. Textures pop-in sooner. Microstutter is heavily reduced (amazing!1) and best of all the few games I keep on there run so, so much sooner.

Cons: None, if you understand that SSD's are always a compromise somewhere. Usually your wallet won't cooperate or the size isn't enough (oh so common the problem) but sometimes speed is the issue. A superfast, 1TB SSD for $200. That will be the REAL day!

The real only con here is the size. I have loaded Windows 8.1, semi stripped (small trashbin, no restore points, no page file etc) and I can only fit Battlefield 4 with all expansions (this is huge), Skyrim with mods (also huge) and Civilization 5 with all expansions. I wish I could at least fit Diablo 3, I think I can actually. I wish I had another $40 so I could of gotten the 256. I think I'll just upgrade to a 1TB when the price drops.

Other Thoughts: Bottom line : a great drive for everyone. Fast (but not the fastest. Decent amount of space : 128, 256, 512. And the prices. The prices! As of Aug '14 : $75, 115 and 215. Finally, decent prices.

Speed, size and price. The beginning of the end for HDD dominance. O, you will have your place, my 4TB friends, but many, o many of your brethren shall see their numbers dwindle. I'm really happy Crucial is the manufacturer to do this, I was looking at Samsung to lead the way - the competition will be good for consumers.

Benchmark results using AS SSD Benchmark :
sequential read/write : 318 MB/s read, 177 MB/s write
4k read/write : 21 MB's, 58 MB's
4k-64thd (?) : 27 MB's, 50 MB's
Acc time : 0.165ms read 0.083 write

3 out of 5 eggsOf course I have Issues

This review is from: Crucial MX100 CT128MX100SSD1 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: It works

Cons: So I get it installed and boot my pc up, I have the 128gb version, and I open up my computer and it says my E drive has only 99gb total and its only got 61gb free space left. Ok I assumed some space would be allocated so I figured I would get 115-120 gb free space but 99?? and what in the world is taking up 40 gigs? Its empty when I open it and it doesn't look like windows is using it for anything. Of course this product gets almost prefect reviews every site I check and I end up with issues. So I have a 128gb SSD that really is saying I only have 60gb of free space out of the box.

Other Thoughts: Hopefully I can figure something out or I will have to send it back and try again.

5 out of 5 eggsLove this SSD

This review is from: Crucial MX100 CT128MX100SSD1 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I went from a 3.0G SATA2 500GB to this hard drive for my Operating System hard drive and my boot time to Login Screen is down to 14 seconds. After logging in opening Chrome or IE is open in the blink of an eye. I'm running Windows 8.1 Enterprise Edition and everything is super fast.

Did standard shipping and got it 42 hours after ordering. I love newegg shipping. It is always like this for me. Sometimes I get it the morning after ordering.

Cons: Wasn't delivered next day, buy hey, 42 hours aint bad either.

This review is from: Crucial MX100 CT128MX100SSD1 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast, fast, fast....! Will be getting another one with more space

Cons: none thus far.

Other Thoughts: though maybe I shouldn't have but I did format it when installing windows 7 ultimate. haven't seen a problem. next bigger one, I won't, so done with Hard Disks after experiencing the power of the SSD

5 out of 5 eggsSmoking

This review is from: Crucial MX100 CT128MX100SSD1 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Affordable, Great price to storage size ratio.
Easy to install
Fast shipping
Real fast performance

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Installed this in my MacBook Pro.
Replaced the 5400 rpm drive.
There is just no comparison, I don't think I'll ever own a Mac without installing one of these.
I mean, I can boot and open massive drag apps like: Final cut Pro, InDesign and many others lightening fast.

Read another review where the buyer said it didn't work with Mac.
HorseManure!
Works great, and very easy to install.
