2 out of 5 eggstoo many cords & bad instructions.

Pros: Only had it one day and had to return. One USB 3.0 was dead.

Cons: If this is being installed internally, why do you have to lace a USB 3.0 cable outside the case to connect to your existing EXTERNAL USB 3.0?

Other Thoughts: I was going to have them send another one, but I think I will look around for a better product.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We at Thermaltake would like to apologize for the inconveninece this has caused.
The USB 3.0 Type A connects to your motherboard's rear I/O, simply as an extension. This is because the internal 20pin controls one USB 3.0 port and all the card readers.
Please allow us to have your unit replaced through warranty if one of the USB 3.0 ports is not functioning.
To obtain RMA information, please contact Customer Support at your earliest convenience.

2 out of 5 eggsDont waste your time

Pros: - USB 3.0
- Multi-card reader
- Reads micro-sd without SD adapter

Cons: - 2nd usable 3.0 port stopped working a few months in
- Usable USB 3.0 port is wasted on a "charging only" port
- 2nd USB 3.0 port requires additional usb 3.0 plug-in (so you must have a free internal or rear usb 3.0 port when you bought this because you either needed front ones in the first place or had none!!!!)
- 3.5 to 5.25" bracket barely holds it in

Other Thoughts: I bought this because my case doesn't have front usb 3.0 ports and the built-in card reader doesn't work despite the already overwhelmingly negative reviews.

This thing seems like a decent build (like all Thermaltake products), but like them all, they eventually start falling apart and you experience the design problems firsthand. A few months in the only other data usb 3.0 port stopped working (the one which requires you to plug it into another usb 3.0 port to even function...) Speaking on that it comes with a usb 3.0 header which only powers TWO of the THREE ports (the charging only one and one data port). To get the other usb 3.0 data port working you need to plug the extra usb 3.0 cord into another usb 3.0 port you already have which is lazy design.

The 3.5" to to 5.25 adapter is also laughably bad. I'm able to pull the entire thing out almost an inch when its supposed to be secured in.

If you plug something too powerful in like an external drive it shuts off the other usb 3.0 data port too so good luck trying to transfer data between two drives connected to the ports.

Whats even more sad is that this is a pretty unique product (combo usb 3.0 hub and card reader) so it's something you might end up buying anyway since the competition doesn't come close in most cases. If something better comes out, this thing is going out the window.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat case addition

Pros: It works, and it even lets me use a USB 3.0 drive to boot from. Does everything I've asked of it!

Cons: The one yellow port looks funny.

1 out of 5 eggsThis unit will not work on all motherboards

Pros: None

Cons: I bought this and installed it in my new computer and it would not work. My computer took 4 mins to start up now. After testing the unit out I found the 20 Pin connector was what was doing it. I called Thermaltake and did not get any answers from them. I called my mother board company and that told me to check the pin outs of this unit and after a long look I found the pin out and it was different. I found out there is two formats for this USB header 20 pin connector and that is what is doing it. I hope this will help other out when buying this unit.

Other Thoughts: come on makers set one format and call it for all boards.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
USB 3.0 uses a standardized 20 pin layout which the Extreme Speed 3.0 uses. Please refer to Intel's USB 3.0 internal connector and cable specifications for more detailed information. Please call Customer Service so we can view your motherboard layout and provide instructions on how to connect the Extreme Speed 3.0 to your motherboard.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect! However, make sure you understand the hardware requirements to run it!

Pros: extremely useful variety of ports. i have tested them and they run super fast. i believe all the mem card slots communicate with each other at USB 3 speed, too. product looks attractive (nice if you are concerned about appearance) and feels very high-quality. all blacked out plastic face, black metal body, and black rubber/plastic sleeved cables.

Cons: You need to be sure you understand the full requirements to run all of the ports in this bay. You will need: 1 female A (external-style) USB 3 port (from your motherboard, or from a pci-e USB 3 card that has a header, or you can cut a notch into a PCI bracket and feed the included cable out the back of the case into an avail USB 3 A port). You will need a 19-pin USB 3 internal header (from your motherboard or from a pci-e USB 3 card that has a header). You will need an internal SATA port. You will need a 4-pin Molex power connector.

minor cons? -- USB ports are upside-down. power connector is the only thing that is not black!

Other Thoughts: if your motherboard does not have the avail ports, and you would like to keep all of the cabling inside your case, the following product is extremely useful, since it features both an internal female A port AND a 19-pin header:

USB3.0 7Port PCI Express Card (5 USB3.0 Ports & Internal USB3.0 20PIN Connector)

As of this review, it is only avail by import from China, and i bought it on the electronic-bay website. It has all of the USB ports necessary to satisfy the Thermaltake bay by itself!

2 out of 5 eggsStopped reading cards in less than 2 months

Pros: USB 3, Charging port, Many Card reader options

Cons: It lasted less than 2 months. It no longer reads any of the cards I use. The blue light comes on and that is about it. The USB ports still work, but the point is to read memory cards without using adapters.

Other Thoughts: It did get a little tricky to install with all the connections required for everything to work on the unit. When it work it was great. I hope there is a repair facility close because I an not going to spend almost half the purchase price to send it back.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
The card reader is backed by a 1 year warranty. Please contact Customer Service who will provide you with RMA instructions.

3 out of 5 eggsMeh.

Pros: Lotsa memory card ports.

USB 3.0

E-Sata

Solid construction, everything is nice and straight.

Cons: That internal 3.0 problem everyone is complaining about.

This device cost enough, it SHOULD have had a 3.0 hub inside to take care of all the ports with ONE PLUG...not THREE (yes, three). The header port, is really 2 and the extra external one is the third. I solved this by ordering an internal usb 3.0 card with an external port on it. One thing they could have done is to design this thing so that the card reader used the external plug....that way that could be plugged into a usb 2.0 header with an adapter...I don't really need usb 3.0 speeds for memory cards.

Another con is the charging port. It certainly doesn't work very well on my Nexus 5. Very slow charging. I'm guessing they didn't do their homework on this one either.

4 out of 5 eggsAll (non-SATA) slots USB 3.0 - YAY!

Pros: With the 19/20 pin internal connector, combined with the type A connector (either internal or...), the USB 3.0 ports PLUS the five (5) concurrent card slots ALL run at full 3.0 speed. Sweet.

The molex power connector makes sure they all have enough juice.

The reader has an E-Sata connector too.

Talk about packing a ton of good stuff into a little 3.5 inch slot, this one has it.

Construction quality is decent. Certainly I've seen worse...

Hey, if you've got a spare pci-e x1, add some external plus an internal Type A sockets using something like a syba PEX20135, and you can stay internal with all the cables. Just sayin'...

BTW, shouldn't complain if you didn't think it through before purchase...

Cons: No manual. Really. If not for the good people writing reviews here, how the heck would others know how this thing works? Like, that the right USB 3.0 goes to the Type A connector? Sheesh. That's the one egg off.

Other Thoughts: My motherboard almost stopped Windows 7 from working when I installed what was (for the mobo mfg) the latest driver for the onboard USB 3.0 - but only when this Reader was connected. Boot went from around a minute to about 20. Really.

Took much longer than that to troubleshoot. Motherboard wasn't Etron or Renesas - it is VIA. Works just fine after installing latest driver available from VIA website. Go figure.

I could have blamed this on Thermaltake. I could blame it on GigaB. I could blame it on society... No, I just isolated problem and found the improved driver.

Now all I want to do is raz the people who didn't do their troubleshooting props before RMA'ing the product. Tech Knowledge of (cough) 5? Oh My Goodness...

2 out of 5 eggsThis is internal only!

Pros: Be aware-this is for internal PC only.

I'll have to send mine back . I was looking for external reader. When it says " USB 3.0 Card reader" it should add internal card reader only--not USB 3!

Cons: Not as describe
