Pros: Put the empty slot to use - reasonably fast.

Cons: Gets stupidly hot quickly in my machine - I guess it's sucking lots of power even when sitting idle.

3 out of 5 eggsNot Perfect But does it's Job

Pros: Adds 128GB SSD storage to your expresscard laptop which is useful for backup. I finally found a use for the 34mm expresscard on my Sony VPCZ laptop.

Cons: On the Sony VPCZ1 laptop you have to eject the card and reinsert it when you turn off your computer or restart it. This isn't a big problem for me since I leave the laptop on ALL the time.

Other Thoughts: Despite the previous reviewer who said the Sony VPCZ1 laptop with Windows 7 doesn't remember the setting to turn off cache it holds the setting fine for me. I'm not finding any loss of data. However I may not use it in the same way as the other person as I keep my laptop on all the time.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid!

Pros: This drive is a rarity - few people make and ExpressCard SSD.

Cons: I've had two major problems with this drive, but note that they may be specific to my setup: Sony Vaio VPCZ1 Laptop running Windows 7-64.

First, the drive is not recognized on boot. You have to physically eject and re-install it every time you restart the machine. This is a firmware issue with Sony's Express Card slot and they have no plans to fix it.

Second, Windows 7 enables write caching on this drive, but doesn't flush the cache properly before shutting down the OS. This means that any data in the cache is lost. I consistently loose data because of this. The problem is that even if you change this setting to disable the write cache, Windows 7 will go in and re-enable it on its own!

Other Thoughts: If only one manufacturer makes a specific type of product (SSD in Express Card format), maybe there is a reason...

5 out of 5 eggsNice upgrade

Pros: Easy to install, and a nice addition/upgrade for ExpressCard34 capable devices. Large capacity, fast access and a very low power consumption.

Cons: I wanted to boot from this device, but my Dell Vostro 3550 doesn't have the bios to support it. I hope they change this in the future. There are no manuals to instruct you to follow some steps required for it to work.

Other Thoughts: In windows 7 after you insert it and the device is detected, you need to format the drive and assign a drive letter to it, before you can do anything useful. I will use this device mainly as a way to do quick backups and then keep the real backups on an external 1TB USB3 HDD.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works, fits, etc. Have had it for several months, works great so far.

Cons: N/A

Other Thoughts: I reviewed this item primarily to correct the person below (Chris)...

When Wintec says it will fit flush with the laptop, they can only go on the ExpressCard dimension specs, which state that cards are 75mm in length.

Several laptops (and I'm guessing your XT3 is one of them) do not provide deep enough slots to fit the full 75mm of the card inside the laptop like they should.

Any laptop with a standard sized ExpressCard slot (like my latitude E6230) will fit this ssd "flush."

I just wish they had a 256GB option somewhere...

3 out of 5 eggsSeems to be working well, but one big complaint already...

Pros: Small EC form factor, relatively high amount of storage space for an SSD.

Cons: While the packaging it comes in boasts that will install flush with the surface of your computer or laptop, it doesn't. In fact, it sticks out exactly one quarter of an inch on the side of my Dell Latitude XT3, which is extremely disappointing. My intended use of the device is as a non-removable secondary hard drive needed to provide extra storage space for VMWare Workstation since my C:\ drive is also a small 128 SSD drive. In order to use this, I have to tolerate something sticking out pretty far on the left side of my laptop, and worse - if you bump it with enough force it will eject. And since it sticks out .25" there's a good chance it is going to get bumped a lot.
