2 out of 5 eggsCheap Plastic

Pros: The price. But you get what you pay for.

Cons: Very cheap plastic. Grip it too tightly? Crack. A regretted purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect!

Pros: Getting images off of CF cards has never been faster!

Cons: The cable is very short. Then again, if you've got a laptop that's exactly what you want.

Also, SHDC cards seem to be limited to USB2 speeds by whatever controller chip is inside. I have not tested xD or MS cards.

Other Thoughts: Read benchmarks with a 300x Transcend CF Card (reaching full threoretical speed):

Sequential: 45MB/s
Access Time: 0.879ms
4k IOPS: 1037
4k Throughput: 4.05MB/s

Read benchmarks with a Sandisk Extreme III 30MB/s SDHC Card (limited by reader):
Sequential: 22MB/s
Access Time: 1.35ms
4k IOPS: 670
4k Throughput: 2.6MB/s

4 out of 5 eggsWhat was I thinking?

Pros: Small

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I purchased this for use with my new 3.0 ready Asus Motherboard. I hooked up the device and the install was fine, but I don't know what I was thinking. I guess I thought it would improve transfer time of my 100x 16GB SD card. BUT...I found out that it transfers at a top speed of a whopping 20MB/sec. Not much faster at all than USB 2.0. Oh well, I was hoping that I would get the faster speeds, but now I see I have to purchase a 400x SD card....so much for the (4) 100x 16 GB cards I already have. I wasted my money on this thing!

3 out of 5 eggsVERY FAST, short cable

Pros: New 400x 16GB Compact Flash transferred photos and videos to computer at about 75MB/sec. That's much faster than my old USB 2.0 card reader. I'm impressed.

Cons: USB cable is only 18 inches or so. If your computer isn't right on your desk, then the cable may not be long enough. I think the standard USB cable length for accessories is 3 ft, and that's about right.

You can't use USB 2.0 cables or extensions with this, so if you want a longer cord, you have to fork over big bucks, since they're new.

Other Thoughts: As a pro photographer, the speed improvement is very impressive, and certainly worth the investment. I'm happy with this.
