Bring an extra level of performance and reliability to your PC with Intel's X-25M Solid State Drive. Unlike regular hard disks, the Intel solid-state drives have no moving parts, giving you a cool, rugged storage alternative. The lower power needs of the SSD translate to lighter notebooks with a longer battery life.
These innovative drives deliver outstanding performance with the latest-generation SATA interface and architecture with 10 parallel NAND flash channels and Native Command Queuing for up to 32 concurrent operations. Far faster than traditional drives with impressive reliability, these Intel drive perform better and are likely to last longer!
Pros: Very fast drive... my applications feel like they just spring up to life when I execute them. This drive definitely breathed new life into my MacBook Pro "Classic" Core 2 Duo 2.2GHz and 4GB RAM.
Cons: The price... time will change this. I am sure in a couple of years you will laugh at a 80GB SSD and what we paid for it.
I have yet to notice any considerable battery life increase, probably due in part to the battery needing to be replaced (a high number of cycles on it).
Other Thoughts: Some XBench Results... yours may vary:

Pros: Very fast, seeking no longer matters. Applications open instantly, from kernel load to desktop boot time is almost ten times faster.
Cons: Doesn't work with the new MacBooks in BIOS mode. Linux can see it, but if you try to boot off of it for Windows or Linux the drive won't be found by the bootloader. I had to work around this by chainloading from a CD.

Released the Beast!
Reviewed By: BigDaddy on 11/5/2008
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: Unfortunately, I bought mine over a month ago, before NewEgg had them in inventory. In my 12 years of building and repairing computers, I have never experienced having a single component change make such a noticable difference in performance in my machine. Every app, every page load, every game open in a fraction of the time with my previous drives. As you know, any system is limited by the slowest data bottleneck and for years that has been rotational hardrives. I've had raided raptors, WD 640s, etc... in the quest for disk access and none have been much of a change until the X25-M. Vista64 boots about a third faster and once loaded, there doesn't appear to be a single bottleneck in my system any longer. The only thing I've tweaked is turning off automatic defrag since these don't need it. The lack of noise and heat is another bonus! It truely has released the beast in my system! Awesome! just Awesome!
Cons: Price, size and that i only have one! But I've been a good boy this year and Santa is on his way...
Other Thoughts: System specs- Q6600@3.4, 4gb PC1100 ram, Asus P5Q Pro, Nvidia 8800GT. WD 640 for storage.
I briefly tried it in my notebood and the same applies! Huge performance increase!

Pros: Extremely fast for this price range Great value Boots up macbook snow leopard in like 15 seconds.
Cons: 80GB is a little tight fit these days. If you like to collect tons of DVDs or MP3s it might not be the drive for you.
Other Thoughts: This really is a revolution in terms of speed and value. A lot of SSD aren't much faster than a normal hard disk. This one is way faster and doesn't cost a ton more than other SSDs.
Note that the Kingston SSDNow X-25 is the same drive just rebranded so if this one is out of stock you can always get that one.

Pros: The effect on day to day performance is noticable. When I go to a non-SSD based system it feels like something is wrong when loading programs because they load so much slower. I keep thinking those systems have a problem because I'm used to this one. At least till I remember they don't have this SSD drive in them.
Cons: None. Performance to price ratio and considering the timing of this product in the market I think it is a great value for enthusiasts who want a performance boost.
Other Thoughts: I'm speaking from an enthusiast standpoint. But even if you're a business or home office user if you know how to use multiple drives set this up for your OS and use a large SATA drive to store your documents and for backups.

Pros: This is the best performance boost I have ever gotten from a single upgrade. Very Fast!!!
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: I recommend the retail version for the extra money. It comes with the hardware you need to mount it in a standard 3.5 bay.
