Bring an extra level of performance and reliability to your PC with Intel's X-25M Solid State Drive. Unlike regular hard disks, the Intel solid-state drives have no moving parts, giving you a cool, rugged storage alternative. The lower power needs of the SSD translate to lighter notebooks with a longer battery life.
These innovative drives deliver outstanding performance with the latest-generation SATA interface and architecture with 10 parallel NAND flash channels and Native Command Queuing for up to 32 concurrent operations. Far faster than traditional drives with impressive reliability, these Intel drive perform better and are likely to last longer!
Pros: Very fast drive... my applications feel like they just spring up to life when I execute them. This drive definitely breathed new life into my MacBook Pro "Classic" Core 2 Duo 2.2GHz and 4GB RAM.
Cons: The price... time will change this. I am sure in a couple of years you will laugh at a 80GB SSD and what we paid for it.
I have yet to notice any considerable battery life increase, probably due in part to the battery needing to be replaced (a high number of cycles on it).
Other Thoughts: Some XBench Results... yours may vary:

Limited by system bottlenecks
Reviewed By: BigDaddy on 12/4/2008
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: It's a shame that some reviewers are marking this drive down because of limited speeds on "their" systems. With the high tech knowledge they proclaim, they should be aware that their own system chipset is likely limiting the read speeds, not the SSD. These drives will burst to 250mbs easily in systems that aren't bottlenecked elsewhere.
Cons: People not having to prove their high tech knowledge??
Other Thoughts: I have never witnessed a single component change affect performance so much as one of these.

Cons: Mine seemed defunk. Had issues right out of the gate installing Windows 7 on the unit. Install froze up 2 times. 3rd time it finally managed a complete install. After that my system would just freeze up randomly. Finally reinstalled Windows 7 on my old HDD, and have had no problems since. Anytime I try to copy data from the SSD drive to my HDD, the system will freeze up mid copy. I must have a bad unit, but it's now been 38 days since I got it. (waited another 2 weeks after receiving for windows 7 before I installed the drive)
Other Thoughts: Guess I'll try to exchange with IBM if I can.
