Intel Solid State Drives (Intel SSDs) represent a revolutionary breakthrough that delivers a giant leap in storage performance. The high-performance storage for notebook and desktop PCs, Intel X25-M, is now made on 34nm NAND flash memory featuring the Intel Solid State Drive (Intel SSD) Toolbox. With sustained sequential read speed up to 250MB/s and write speed up to 70MB/s, the Intel X25-M mainstream SSDs are designed to satisfy the most demanding gamers, media creators, and technology enthusiasts. These drives bring a high level of performance and reliability to notebook and desktop PC storage, at a fraction of the cost of the previous generation of Intel SSD products.

  • newegg Wait less. Do more Why wait for a traditional hard disk drive to spin up? Unlike traditional hard disk drives, Intel SSDs have no moving parts, resulting in a quiet, cool, highly rugged storage solution that also offers faster system responsiveness. And for laptop PCs, the lower power needs of Intel SSDs translate to longer battery life and lighter notebooks. Higher performance with more durability means you can be truly mobile with confidence.
  • newegg Better by design Drawing from decades of memory engineering experience, and now on new, industry-leading compute-quality 34nm NAND flash memory manufacturing processes, Intel Mainstream SATA Solid-State Drives are designed to deliver outstanding performance, featuring the latest-generation native SATA interface with an advanced architecture employing 10 parallel NAND flash channels equipped with multi-level cell NAND flash memory. With powerful Native Command Queuing to enable up to 32 concurrent operations, Intel Mainstream SATA SSDs deliver higher input/output per second and throughput performance than other SSDs on the market today – and drastically outperform traditional hard disk drives. These drives also feature low write amplification and a unique wear-leveling design for higher reliability, meaning Intel drives not only perform better – they last longer.
  • newegg Intel SSD Toolbox with Intel SSD Optimizer The Intel SSD Toolbox with Intel SSD Optimizer provides a set of applications to easily manage the health and optimize the performance of your Intel SSD. The Intel SSD Toolbox includes a powerful set of management, information, and diagnostic tools, and is designed to work best with 34nm Intel SSDs. The Intel SSD Optimizer utilizes the new ATA Data Set Management Command (Trim Attribute) to help maintain your SSDs performance at "fresh-out-of-the-box" levels, and is specifically designed to run with Microsoft Windows 7. The Intel SSD Optimizer also works with Microsoft Windows Vista and XP operating systems as well.

2 out of 5 eggsIntel SSD = FAIL

Pros: Very fast drive low power usage great when it works.

Cons: Failed in a year. Intel refuses to honor their warranty unless I can do a low level format on it. Since it is a bad drive kinda hard to do. Warranty support is a pain to get ahold of. They only can be contacted by phone for warranty replacements.

Other Thoughts: Intel makes good CPUs, but they clearly aren't qualified to make SSD drives or willing to honor the three year warranty they offer.

5 out of 5 eggsAlways verify your capacity needs

Pros: I actually own two of these now, this specific drive, and one of its predecessors. I thought I could get away with only one 80gb drive, and I was horribly mistaken. So I bought this guy and threw them into a RAID 0. The whole process was quick and painless. It's worth noting that if you're buying this because you're a gamer, Windows 7 plus 3-4 games (not PopCap stuff, I'm talking like StarCraft 2 and BFBC2 etc here) is going to pretty much fill the drive, and you'll end up in the same spot I was. But, I was happy, it worked out well, 2 of these in a RAID 0 config is so fast it takes my machine longer to POST and detect the array than it does to actually boot into Win7. I can safely say, that purchasing a SSD is the single best upgrade you make to most computers if you're looking for an overall performance boost.

Cons: I haven't had any issues with either of them, not so much as a hiccup.

Other Thoughts: If you're really complaining that you didn't get a 3.5" mounting bracket when you purchased an OEM drive, you should really step away from your computer can go back to licking windows and eating lead paint.

1 out of 5 eggsugh never again

Pros: size. Its very light weight but thats about it.

Cons: Completely froze up my system. Everything i load takes forever. Even after its loaded, it still doesnt load quick at all. I shouldve left my old system alone but i fell for the hype and now its too late. Never again will i use ssd drives. The old standard hard drives are way more reliable.

Other Thoughts: I shouldve stuck with my favorite Seagate drives. I was thinking of trying the velociraptor but i hate WD drives. They fail way too much for me.

5 out of 5 eggsEverything runs quickly!

Pros: Wow, my PC boots up quickly and applications open very quickly with this drive. Highly recommended!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: 80 GB might be just a little bit too small. I loaded Win 7 pro, MS Office Business, Adobe Premiere Pro CS5, Photoshop CS5, and Lightroom 3; and there's only about 20 GB free.

All my data files are stored on a standard 7200 RPM hard disk. I'm not planning on adding many more applications, so hopefully the 80 GB will be big enough.

4 out of 5 eggsDesktop Mounting Difficulties

Pros: Anxious to get it on line.

Cons: I bought a high-end (Antec 1200) beast of a full tower. The SSD didn't come with any mounting hardware that I can use to secure the drive in the chassis. I'm probably going to have to improvise unfortunately.

Other Thoughts: I don't want to be negative about this device for performance because I have not even turned it on yet, but mounting is an issue at least in my situation.

5 out of 5 eggsJust ordered my third Intel SSD

Pros: Rocket fast. Have one in a Lenovo netbook, other in a home built XPSP3 Core2 Duo desktop. Both boot faster than my Win7x64 with an i5-750, Intel board, and a "fast" regular HD. Cloned the original Lenovo WD HD to the SSD, and it booted and acted like it had always been there. XPSP3 was a new clean install. Power use on the netbook went down to near nothing - regularly it will run 6-8 hours on the single battery - before, lucky if it ran two hours.

Cons: Drive is a little bit "off-size" from a regular netbook/notebook HD - a tight fit in the Lenovo. Included adapter for the desktop made it a no-problem fit.

Other Thoughts: Use the Intel SSD toolbox "trim" app for drive optimization. Don't defrag these unless they get really slow - more read/writes, more wear and tear. On my desktop, the drive is just the OS and installed apps - page file, temp files, My Documents, all, are moved to a regular second SATA HD - therefore less read/writes. On the Lenovo netbook - it's one drive, so I guess I'm seeing how much wear and tear will happen (use it every day at work).

5 out of 5 eggsBuy This Drive

Pros: Everything. Single most significant performance improvement I have ever seen and I have upgraded every part of a PC at some point in time. Nothing has even come close to this. Some folks complain about the price of SSDs...they are worth every penny!

Cons: It won't clean your house.

Other Thoughts: Save some money and buy one of these! You will be glad you did.
