Great things come in small packages! Based on 34nm Intel NAND Flash Memory, the Intel Solid-State Drive 310 Series offers similar performance to a 2.5 Intel Solid-State Drive (Intel SSD), but at an eighth of the size. High-performance in a compact mSATA footprint enables dual-drive storage for traditional embedded platforms, as well as a single drive option for innovative, low-power handheld devices.

Reduced boot time? You got it. Increased system benchmark performance? Yes, it’s there. Longer battery life? The Intel SSD 310 Series has you covered.

  • newegg Lightweight for On-the-Go computing The mSATA Intel SSD 310 Series enables a flexible, scalable and accelerated storage solution in a form factor that is up to 8 times smaller than a 2.5 hard-disk drive, and weighs 10 times less. Supporting SATA signals over a PCI Express (PCIe) mini-connector, the Intel SSD 310 Series provides compact storage acceleration for single-drive systems like netbooks, tablets and other hand-held devices.
  • newegg High performance Dual-Drive option The small footprint also augments hard-disk drive performance in dual-drive systems, such as all-in-ones, notebooks and small-form-factor (SFF) desktops. The mSATA form factor connects easily to an existing mSATA port on a PC enabling the SSD to perform as a boot drive, quick access to frequently-used applications or storage.
  • newegg SSD Ruggedness With no moving parts, Intel SSD offers a revolutionary breakthrough that delivers a giant leap in storage performance. Designed to satisfy the most demanding gamers, media creators and technology enthusiasts, the Intel SSD 310 Series brings a high level of performance and reliability to a small form factor by utilizing the powerful 10-channel controller architecture of the Intel X25-M SATA Solid-State Drive series.
  • newegg Capacities to fit your needs Whether you chose the 40GB or 80GB capacity, the Intel SSD 310 Series provides the storage performance that fits your innovative designs. Make your system come alive with an Intel SSD 310 Series.

2 out of 5 eggsSlow

Pros: Used this as a cache to some hard drives with the Intel Rapid Start on a motherboard.

Cons: Very slow reads and writes.

Other Thoughts: If you are going to use this as a cache on a motherboard to increase boot times save your money and just buy a good SSD. These are expensive for the storage you are getting.

5 out of 5 eggsFast

Pros: -Fast
-Small
-Quiet
-Cool (temp)

Cons: -Not free (?)

Other Thoughts: This thing may not be the fastest SSD on the market, but it's still a huge improvement over any spinning platter. I get boot times under 15 seconds, then it takes another 5 seconds to be on Newegg, or some other site. I use a ThinkPad Edge E420s and it has a mSATA/PCI mini slot that I put this in. I just took out the HDD because I didn't use it.

4 out of 5 eggsMake sure you have a mSata port to use!

Pros: cheap
small

Cons: almost no mobo can fit it

Other Thoughts: I bought this to pop inside a new motherboard to use as READ/WRITE intel smart response, not realizing that only a few specific motherboards allow mSata mini pci-e SSD chips.

Had to buy a msata to sata adapter for 20 bucks so i can hook it up to my media center mini-itx motherboard

5 out of 5 eggsEasy to install on Gigabyte Z68-UD3

Pros: Plug and play - nothing special to do. BIOS identified it immediately. Came with program for computer to ID it via formatting it.

Cons: Be careful with the packaging when it arrives. Only comes in a soft plastic with it be difficult to pop out.

Other Thoughts: Be mindful when ordering SSDs. I ordered a different size and it did not fit. This was actually recommended from tom's hardware site.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat MSATA SSD.

Pros: These SSDs are a good way of expanding storage on laptop and motherboards that have an MSATA-capable mini-PCI-E slot. Read speeds are excellent. They also make great boot drives, if your storage needs are not great.

Cons: Write speeds are somewhat low, though on par with most 5400RPM hard drives. Cost per GB is high relative to Intel's other SSDs.

Other Thoughts: If you can afford it, get the 80GB version if possible.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat, fast and reliable

Pros: Second SSD for my laptop. It's decently fast, and I've had no issues with it.

Cons: It has half the write speed of a normal SSD
So for performance, its far from the best choice.
Also it's rather expensive for the performance and the size.

5 out of 5 eggsIntel 310 mSATA 40GB

Pros: - Works in Jetway JNF81-T56N-LF mini-ITX board (AMD Brazos/Ontario E-350)
- mSATA, small, low-power, internal, case-less
- Intel SSD reliability (hopefully)

Cons: While small and low-power, it's sluggish for an SSD. Reads are responsive enough but writing, especially to the 40GB model, is laggy. Better than 2.5" notebook platter drive, but not by much.

Other Thoughts: It it lasts 5 years, it will have done exactly what I needed it to do.

mSATA is pretty sweet if you can use it correctly.

3 out of 5 eggsNot compatible with T91

Pros: I'm sure it works great in the computers it's for.

Cons: Not compatible with the T91 or T91MT. The title says "(mini PCIe form factor)", but that just means it's the same shape. It plugs in fine, but the computer will not even turn on. I guess I'll be more careful next time.

Other Thoughts: I didn't get a change to pull apart my T91MT until more than 30 days after I bought the drive, so I can't return it. Expensive lesson learned, I guess.

3 out of 5 eggsGood, but slower than 80GB model

Pros: Inexpensive, much faster than HDD, Intel quality and reliability.

Cons: Much slower than 80GB model

Other Thoughts: 1. Make sure your computer supports mSATA!
2. For more speed, consider the 80GB model (or the Renice 120GB K3VLAR).

5 out of 5 eggsGreat mSATA SSD

Pros: Small footprint, Intel's reliability, Fast. Good for small budget.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Works great with my Lenovo Thinkpad W520. Use it just to hold OS. 20GB free with Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V. All my VMs are on the WD 500 HDD.
