5 out of 5 eggsSSDs have quirks

Pros: faster os and program startups
removed the data bottleneck
trim on windows7, ssd safety on tuneup2012, ssd on oodefrag

Cons: 25% clause?
doesn't fix software startups or exits, only makes them faster
defrag is a delicate issue/trim ain't everything

Other Thoughts: I've been using this drive all semester and have noticed a significant difference when 25% of the drive is free. That's 30gb free, 90gb taken. These days, 90gb is roughly windows, computer companies drivers and driver programs, one 3d modeler, microsoft office, microsoft expression suite, and world of warcraft(23gb+)... lol. Assuming your game of choice takes a sane amount of space, you can put a lot more on there.

1 out of 5 eggsCyber Monday rebate scam

Pros: Works great.

Cons: Overpriced due to unfulfilled cyber Monday $80 rebate scam.

Other Thoughts: I bought this on the cyber monday sale with $80 rebate. Rebate documentation was submitted before the deadline yet it was declined with boilerplate excuses on the tracking website. I guess I'll be using Am zon from now on after many years of being a loyal Newegg customer...

5 out of 5 eggsIcy Dock Ruined my SSD

Pros: Real real fast, fast boot up.
This is a follow up review. I will stand by my first review of SSD stutter. I will admit it is rare on my PC and with my replacement on my Mac it does NOT stutter so far.

Cons: No plans for SSD toolbox for Mac. For mac users this program tells drive reliability and gives an estimate of remaining life and if there are any sectors that are not being used due to failure. It is a great program that only works on PCs and I just came from Intel's website and got the bad news, no program slated for the Mac.

Other Thoughts: I bought this device called an Icy Dock to put the SSD in to dock in my Mac pro. It is not a simple pass through device so be warned. it appears to have been the problem all along with my Mac and the Intel SSD. Intel replaced the damaged SSD within a week. New Mexico to Kentucky and back. I think they cross shipped the drive. Either way they took care of me better than I expected. You get what you pay for with Intel, good service, I am almost certain the failure was not their fault yet they replaced the item with no hassle.

2 out of 5 eggsnot working after 2 months

Pros: Fast when it worked. Occational stutter that was probably first indication of a bad unit. Migration assistant is super easy. I suggest downloading the SSD tools from Intel to keep an eye on the status of your SSD. 5 year warranty, pretty simple return process.

Cons: Worked only 2 months before failing. Firmware upgrade on Mac requires burning a ISO image to a disk. (I just did it on my PC) Warranty return requires YOU to pay for shipping. I know that is standard, but it sucks to pay this much and have to pay more to get the product you expected in the first place (a working SSD) If it lasted a year I think I would not think twice about it. 2 MONTHS? now I am spending my ENTIRE day off reloading OSX from my backup. (I know that seems like a long time but I had to reload it twice due to a APP store problem, but it appears that I now have everything up and running properly) My Mac pro (dual quad xenon, 8 core) appears to actually run slower. This could be because this drive was failing right out of the box, I don't know. My PC? I had a Kingston small SSD and it runs about the same. REAL FAST. Big difference from a regular HD alone.

Other Thoughts: Bought 2 one for a Mac and one for a PC. They both stutter on a rare occation, although the Mac was more pronounced and occured more often. What do I mean when I say it stutters? Just like it sounds program stops for up to 2 seconds then continues to load. I have a smaller Kingston SSD that has never done that the 2 years I have had it. To be honest I thought the speed improvement would carry over to the Mac Pro I have. IT DID NOT. First of all you have to split your HD and move your user files to another HD, no way it will fit on 120gb SSD. When you do that you end up causing a lot of other problems like missing cache files. Most programs open the same speed as before and some take 10 times longer to become usable (Numbers, pages ect) as the computer has to start from scratch instead of replying on the cache. You can do nothing with numbers or pages for 3 to 5 minutes as you wait for the rainbow ball to go away.

4 out of 5 eggsWorthy purchase for those in the know

Pros: Intel has extra features in the 320 series that make it great for portable usage. Capacitor to write cache to flash in case of a power loss. Extra silicon to ensure future flash corruption is negligible.

I can carry my Elitebook around like a 5 year old and not worry about a head crash.

This kit comes with a USB 3.0 to SATA. Which I have used many times since on different hard drives.

Cons: I haven't tested this to compare to my old drive. It was a Western Digital Black 7,200rpm laptop drive and for the most part do not notice any speed difference in real world usage between the two.

Software for data transfer is download only.

Other Thoughts: With mechanical HDD prices about twice what they were a year ago, SSD are making a logical choice for upgrades.

There is TOTAL control over the data copy with their software. Reminds me of GHOST from many years ago. I went from a 300gb HDD to a 120gb SSD, and it didn't care. I set up a few partitions and it copied away.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast. Mine already had the firmware update from factory

Cons: Not as much of a speed increase as I expected when loading games. (10,000 rpm to SSD)
