Manufacturer Warranty

Parts
5 years limited
All Intel SSD 320 products sold in the OEM boxes have a five-year limited warranty term; however, the warranty includes a "Media Wearout" limitation. The Media Wearout limitation provides that the warranty shall expire when the usage of the drive has reached a predetermined usage limit established by Intel, which could result in a warranty term much shorter than five years for drives used in heavy-use, enterprise applications. The Media Wearout is determined by Intel's implementation of the SMART attribute "E9" Media Wearout indicator (as measured by and shown in the Intel SSD Toolbox, www.intel.com/go/ssdtoolbox). At any point during the warranty term, if the Media Wearout Indicator reads "1", as measured by the Intel SSD Toolbox, then the drive has reached its wear limit and the Limited Warranty at that point expires, regardless of how much time may have been remaining on the five-year term. This Media Wearout limitation is imposed due to the greater workload demands of enterprise/data center deployment on SSDs.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome High-Quality Drive!

Pros: Extremely Fast, huge performance increase after upgrading from the stock SATA HDD. So far it has been reliable and I haven't had any issues.

Cons: None really, maybe the price, but you are going to pay more for a 1.8" SSD than a 2.5", especially a high-end model made by Intel. The price on this has already gone down since I purchased it and is going to keep dropping like all SSDs.

Other Thoughts: Ironically, I also installed this in an HP 2540p like the previous reviewer. I installed it a little over a year ago and haven't had any trouble with it. When I got it I also installed Intel's SSD Toolbox software and upgraded the firmware on the drive, which may have kept me from having the same issues as the other reviewer. I always recommend upgrading the firmware to the latest version on any piece of hardware, as this usually fixes any issues that were found after the product was released. The SSD Toolbox is also good for optimizing the drive which should be done once a week or so to keep it running its best. That goes for any SSD. According to the software this drive is still 100% healthy and has 100% of its lifespan left, even after a year of daily use. I did not purchase this through Newegg, mine was purchased directly from Intel though the IT company I work for. This drive is a solid performer and I highly recommend it to anyone in need of a 1.8" 300gb SSD. Just be sure to keep it running its best using Intel's software. I will definitely update my review or leave another one if this drive ever fails me, but right now it is still running as good as new.

1 out of 5 eggsSave yourself the aggrevation

Pros: I purchased this hard drive from NewEgg in August, 2012. I placed the drive in my HP EliteBook 2540p and was immediately impressed with the performance improvement. Boot time was quicker, applications opened fast... I was very impressed.

Cons: In early November (about 70 days after install) I got a blue screen, and the drive was no longer recognized. Fortunately I have a good backup regimen, and only lost a few files but the aggrevation of starting over was painful. Intel was just ok about the warranty replacement, wanting my original drive before they would send a new one. The exchange took about 2 weeks.

By this point I had been spoiled... the speed was addicting. I couldn't go back to a mechanical hard drive now, so I re-installed the replacement SSD which lasted only 60 days. I've now been burned twice by this drive, and can't bring myself to do it again...

Other Thoughts: I researched other drive brands and each seem to have at least one story similar to mine. So now I take a step back in speed in favor of reliability. Sometimes it just doesn't pay to be on the bleeding edge.
