5 out of 5 eggsGreat SSD!

Pros: This is by far the best SSD I have ever used. Comes with all the brackets needed, the Intel website has all the drivers/support you need. I could not be more pleased.

Cons: So far, nothing

Other Thoughts: A bit on the upper end of the price scale but like most things you get what you pay for. Sysytem:
Intel I7-3770K
32GB G.Skills Ripjaws X series ram
GTX660 2GB Zotec Video Card
Seasonic X Series X650W power supply

5 out of 5 eggsPlenty of space, speed.

Pros: Comes with mounting bracket, is fast and reliable.

Cons: Most expensive for size, but you get what you pay for.

Other Thoughts: No complaints, shipped and arrived in a couple days, up and running with zero problems. I replaced a pair of Intel 64gb SSDs that were aging and nearly full. Decided to just use the one large drive as my primary. Installed everything to it and have not looked back.

5 out of 5 eggsIntel 520 480 SSD

Pros: To begin with I am a new user of the SSD technology. I was really hesitant about purchasing the SSD but I really wanted to get my feet wet. I did!
The migration software furnished by Intel and made by Acronis is very simple and fast. There a few options, but if you click the START button and then Click the automatiic button it takes these choices away from you. A good thing! I chose to clone instead of doing a clean reinstall of the OS. The only other interaction on your part is to choose the source drive, click next, choose destination drive, which will have the Intel logo on it to help with your decision. Make sure you choose the Intel logo drive. If you make the choices in reverse, you will lose all your data.
Once these selections are made and you click next you will see graphic presentation of your selections. Source and destination drives will be visible with capacities clearly indicated. If satisfied click next and sit back.
When the cloning is finished the computer will reboot and give you a message stating cloning completed. The computer will shutdown and that is when you remove your source drive. I suppose that is enough about software.
Yes, the drive is fast! I have compared my original WD Raptor to this SSD using CrystalDiskMark and wow is all I can say! Fast. The Intel software ToolBox can be found at and is used to monitor the SSD health. Gives all information that one might want to know about the drive. It also has an optimizer tool which scans the drive and makes suggestions to improve performance. The suggestions are optional, but I clicked on the suggestion and the toolbox made the changes. The toolbox also allows you to check for firmware updates, and will make the changes while in the toolbox.
I bought this SSD from Newegg but missed a sale that had the drive for $120.00 less that what I paid. The price is back up now, so I would advise subscribing to Newegg Shell Shocker ads. A good thing.
Hopefully this review will help someone to decide whether or not to purchase this drive. It is great!!

Cons: No cons yet. Only 10 days in use.

Other Thoughts: I have been waiting for the prices to drop, and they are. Not fast enough, but they are coming down. No comparison to conventional HDD.

5 out of 5 eggsCant be beat

Pros: I just re-installed my system on this drive that I got from a contest on facebook. My startup time is now 23-25 sec.
modern warfare 3 starts up faster than I can get my hands to the keyboard.
installs are now bottle necked at the dvd drive.
everything pops. I doubt most people can move the mouse before chrome starts up.

Cons: it was free so I have no complaints

Other Thoughts: The internet contests actually work.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great in 2012 MacBook Pro 13"

Pros: Works great in my 2012 MacBook Pro 13", 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5, 16GB RAM, 6-Gb/s SATA 3 interface.

No drivers to install, no fuss. Installation was a no brainer. No lockups, boots fast.

Removed my original 500GB 5400rpm spinning rust drive and put it in a USB enclosure then used Carbon Copy Cloner to automagically clone it to the newly installed Intel SSD.

Applications pop open almost instantly, file transfers are lightning quick and reliable.

Even my Linux, Windows 7, Windows XP, and Windows 8 virtual machines run incredibly fast with this SSD.

5 Year Manufacturer's Warranty.

Works great. No issues. I love it!

Cons: A little more expensive than some other SSDs and perhaps not THE fastest but it's been reliable.... well for the month that I've had it anyway.

Other Thoughts: Wasn't looking for the ultimate in speed. Wanted a balance of speed and reliability. We'll see how the reliability part plays out over time. The Intel 520 SSD has a 5 year warranty and I'm keeping all my paperwork in safe place in case I ever need it.

1 out of 5 eggsFREEZES UP

Pros: When it works its great

Cons: This drive has some serious issues:

I received my brand new Dell Precision M6600. Before I started to use the system I upgraded the hard drive to an Intel 520 Series.

After dropping in the SSD, I was ready to install Windows 7 Pro. I first went into the BIOS and left the setting on RAID. After reading tons of forums, this seemed like the right way on installing the hard drive. Once complete I installed all the necessary drivers (which is a story in its self!). After, I went on the Intel website and ran the driver utility make sure everything is up-to-date. I also installed the SSD toolbox to optimize the drive.

After dealing with the BIOS not always detecting the SSD and the occasional OS freeze, I made my way into the Intel control panel. I noticed the hard drive was only running at 3GB/s, I thought that was kind of odd since the computer is capable of running 6GB/s. I decided to change the BIOS to AHCI and reinstall 7..

Other Thoughts: Once complete, I still had to deal with the BIOS not detecting the SSD and 7 freezing up, every so often. Anywho, once I re-installed all drivers and utilities. I now see the hard drive running at 6GB/s. I was a happy camper until I started to use the computer. I noticed it freezed up the more I use it.

If your looking for something reliable and a company that stands behind there product. look elsewhere.

4 out of 5 eggsSandforce controller?

Pros: Intel reputation

Cons: Cost still kinda high

Other Thoughts: When did Intel start using Sandforce controllers?

And has anyone tested these with uncompressable files (like video files) to see if the read/write rate drops through the floor like it does with the OCZ Sandforce based SSDs?

Interesting that Intel has always had a superb reputation for reliability, whereas Sandforce-based SSDs are the precise opposite of reliable. What changed?

5 out of 5 eggsIt Was A Breeze

Pros: Fast and works very well. The Intel (Acronis) Migration Software was superb.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I just upgraded my desktop as follows:

From Core i7 980x to Core i7 3770k
From Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 to GA-Z77X-UD5
From (2) WD VelociRaptors in RAID 0 to Intel 520 Series 480 GB
From 12 GB Corsair Dom GT to 32 GB Dom GT
GB GV-N570OC-13I to onboard Intel 4000 gpu

It was the most straightforward and easiest build I have ever done. The new Intel 520 is great and the Intel (Acronis) Migration software was excellent!! OCing the 3770k and the memory was simplicity itself. I love it when hardware and software work and work well.
