Manufacturer Warranty

Parts
5 years limited
All Intel SSD 520 products sold in the OEM boxes have a five-year limited warranty term; however, the warranty includes a "Media Wearout" limitation. The Media Wearout limitation provides that the warranty shall expire when the usage of the drive has reached a predetermined usage limit established by Intel, which could result in a warranty term much shorter than five years for drives used in heavy-use, enterprise applications. The Media Wearout is determined by Intel's implementation of the SMART attribute "E9" Media Wearout indicator (as measured by and shown in the Intel SSD Toolbox, www.intel.com/go/ssdtoolbox). At any point during the warranty term, if the Media Wearout Indicator reads "1", as measured by the Intel SSD Toolbox, then the drive has reached its wear limit and the Limited Warranty at that point expires, regardless of how much time may have been remaining on the five-year term. This Media Wearout limitation is imposed due to the greater workload demands of enterprise/data center deployment on SSDs.

5 out of 5 eggsFast Ssd! have owned it for 2+years

This review is from: Intel 520 Series Cherryville SSDSC2CW240A310 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Bought this Sandforce controlled Intel Ssd when the 520 series first came out. Still works like new, and is faster than my Maplecrest 330 series 120gb.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good on 3x240GB RAID0

This review is from: Intel 520 Series Cherryville SSDSC2CW240A310 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Very Fast especially in Raid0, yes i know this is overkill but my games library is over 600gb on steam. This is just for games because of the insanely quick load times. I will not exceed 75% of drive space since trim is gone, but regular garbage collection will do its job in idle. I did alot of research and for raid0 comparisons i saw this excel. This is on an AMD Board, I have my CPU OC'd to 4Ghz, with 8GB ram, will be upping it to 32 soon, unless i decide to get a new board. The 965BE is very stable and the SSD's worked from jump. I couldnt be happier

Cons: So far none to really speak of, of course this may change.

Other Thoughts: I am waiting for the 512GB drives to drop in price, go with2x raid0 on that instead of just a single TB SSD because of the increased speed overall. I hope the same can be said about the 512GB drives. will see

1 out of 5 eggsAwful

This review is from: Intel 520 Series Cherryville SSDSC2CW240A310 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: It was fast, loaded windows in mere seconds

Cons: Took a dump in less than a year

Other Thoughts: since this unit failed so quickly I would not recommend it.

1 out of 5 eggsALL 4 FAILED

This review is from: Intel 520 Series Cherryville SSDSC2CW240A310 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: All outweighed by Failure Rate

Cons: Failed. I purchased four of these drives for use with the Black Magic HyperDeck Studios. I formatted the drives properly, used them for about a month when randomly one of them just stopped being recognized, by my gear or even Disk Utility. Tried everything but I couldn't get it to show up anywhere or reformat, and then the same thing happened with the 2nd drive. Sent them into Intel for Warranty Replacement, they sent out 2 new ones. One of the 2 new ones wouldn't format through Disk Utility, had to do a COMPLETE zero out on that drive to get it to format (in simply Mac OS Extended Journaled). Then this morning, one day after getting the replacements, I plugged in my older two drives (which literally have just been sitting on a desk for 2 weeks, not used at all. And NOW THEY WON'T BE RECOGNIZED. Can't reformat them, won't show up in Disk Utility. These drives have nothing but the worst failure rate. I've been using SSDs for a few years now in many capacities but have NEVER had this many issues with one particular brand.

Other Thoughts: I've used these in multiple settings and systems, they've all failed. At different times, in different conditions.

5 out of 5 eggssolid

This review is from: Intel 520 Series Cherryville SSDSC2CW240A310 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Intel reliability is what I bought this for.

This is a boot drive in my storage server which has 16 to 24 hard disks. Also run VMs off this SSD; great IO for those.

This drive reports SMART data that tells the total reads and writes for the life of the drive. Good info to have!

Cons: Bulk transfer speeds are not as high as other SSD's, but randoms are good.

4 out of 5 eggsVery Reliable

This review is from: Intel 520 Series Cherryville SSDSC2CW240A310 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Usual SSD advantages: fast, quiet and less heat

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I've got 2 of these running since 2011 and haven't had any reliability issues to date. In comparison, I also had 2 Crucial SSDs and both have failed with unhandled errors. These Intel drives aren't the fastest but they have been very reliable so far.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Upgrade!

This review is from: Intel 520 Series Cherryville SSDSC2CW240A310 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Faster than the Intel 510
Super Easy to Install

Cons: No shiny blue box

Other Thoughts: So it does not come with the pretty blue box. So it does not come with screws. BIG DEAL! Who needs the box? Who does not have 4 small screws lying around? Anyone who spends the extra $20 to get the retail version should have their head checked.

3 out of 5 eggsgreat with Intel chipset

This review is from: Intel 520 Series Cherryville SSDSC2CW240A310 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: This thing is faster than any other SSD I've owned if installed with an Intel chipset. That is the chipset, not the CPU.

Cons: Initially installed in my desktop which is AMD and couldn't tune or anything as the Intel SSD toolbox couldn't communicate with it because it wasn't an Intel chipset. This should in no way be a hindrance for a drive!

Other Thoughts: Luckily enough my laptop was a willing transplant patient.

If I hadn't had an Intel chipset board to use this with I would have been infuriated.

I honestly don't know how to rate this. If you do have compatible hardware it's a 5; if not it's a 1/4 of an egg as it's slower than a HDD.

You can find all sorts of articles about this by searching something like "The Intel SSD Toolbox cannot communicate with the selected Intel SSD"
