1 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Intel 530 Series SSDSC2BW180A401 2.5" 180GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: None. Did not work at all.

Cons: Saw some mentions about this SSD not being recognized by certain systems. Took a chance, ordered it anyways. Oops. Refuses to be recognized by Dell Precision M6500. Not detected at all, even with latest BIOS and SSD with latest firmware. SSD S.M.A.R.T. status reads as perfect. Can't recommend this drive until Intel fixes the known compatibility issues it has with a myriad of systems. Intel is usually known for high quality and reliability...until this drive, anyways.

Other Thoughts: Avoid until Intel fixes compatibility issues.

This review is from: Intel 530 Series SSDSC2BW180A401 2.5" 180GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Intel quality and reliability for a competitive price.

Cons: Yes you can get a comparable SSD for a bit less, but sometimes to save a few bucks now can cause a headache later. ;-)

3 out of 5 eggsThis SSD is not very compatible with laptops

This review is from: Intel 530 Series SSDSC2BW180A401 2.5" 180GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Good price, Intel quality.

Cons: This SSD (even with the latest firmware) has a known issue where it will not be found by a laptop's BIOS on a restart. A cold boot will always find the SSD though. This can be a real problem if you use the SSD for your system drive in one of the incompatible laptops. There is a thread devoted to this problem on the Intel SSD website. So far the laptops that have problems are Asus, Mac Probook, Lenovo, HP (many models) and probably quite a few others that have not yet weighed in.

Other Thoughts: I am hoping Intel eventually issues a BIOS fix for this SSD as I have an affected Asus laptop (G73 series) 10/2/13 Luckily I am using the SSD in the Data drive not the system drive. Still, I have to ALWAYS do a shutdown, as restarts will lose the D: drive.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for OS installation

This review is from: Intel 530 Series SSDSC2BW180A401 2.5" 180GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Easy installation. Makes to load OS (Win 7 home premium) literally less than in 10 seconds! Very stable, no problem what so far.
What else? Well - really nice design, even though I don't really care about it ))))

Cons: NONE.

Other Thoughts: Good capacity for Win 7 (180 GB is more than most common 110 GB SSDs, & cost is much less then 240 GB... ). So for budget minded - ideal option!
No compromise in tech specs for a fraction of a price!
