5 out of 5 eggsWorth The Money

This review is from: Intel 530 Series SSDSC2BW120A4K5 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Retail

Pros: 5 year warranty and Intel quality. What could be better?

SSD migration software that is almost "foolproof". Every Windows 7 installation that I have migrated has gone smoothly and without trouble.

The SSD Toolbox application is useful on Windows and easy to understand.

Cons: Not the cheapest SSD in this size range, but worth the money for the long warranty.

The SSD migration software only works with an Intel SSD as the destination drive. The software is "Windows only", but make the CD and try that on non-Windows systems.

Had to download the SSD Migration and SSD Toolbox software from Intel's web pages.

Other Thoughts: This SSD is my default choice for 'boot" drives in Windows and Linux systems.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid device, decent speeds.

This review is from: Intel 530 Series SSDSC2BW120A4K5 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Retail

Pros: It's an Intel product, you can usually trust Intel. speeds are pretty decent. looks pretty sweet inside my system (NZXT H440 it's in the window)

Cons: It's a Sandforce, I have yet to have any problems but it's only a matter of time apparently.

5 out of 5 eggsStable drives

This review is from: Intel 530 Series SSDSC2BW120A4K5 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Retail

Pros: Using 2 of these drives in a RAID 0 array. They perform well, but anything with a sandforce controller knows the stories. Great drives, im sure they will be stable for YEARS since they are using INTEL NAND. Getting 950MB/s Reads 400 MB/s Writes using AS-SSD benchmark on a X99 chipset

Cons: SANDFORCE Controller!

Other Thoughts: Performance is great with 2 in a RAID setup, I like INTEL NAND and will last for years...

3 out of 5 eggsNot detected in BIOS on multiple systems

This review is from: Intel 530 Series SSDSC2BW120A4K5 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Retail

Pros: The Intel SSD also comes with a mounting bracket, SATA data & power cables, spacer and decal. Many other SSDs on the market do not include any of these items. This is a major plus.

Cons: I bought 2 of these SSDs and neither would be detected in the BIOS or Windows. I tried the SSDs on my desktop (an older P67 mobo) and also a newer Windows 8 laptop. Neither systems would detect the SSD despite various BIOS settings. I could only access the drive through a USB enclosure. I have never had problems installing SSDs on either of my systems (including the previous Intel 520). Docking 2 eggs because of the failure of both drives in 2 different systems. Intel support is vague on this issue, though some in community forums suspect an issue with the DC32 firmware.

Other Thoughts: I'm a bit disappointed as I have had success with Intel drives before. I find the Intel support pages to be lacking. I have decided to switch to Samsung SSDs instead - their superior performance & reliability/warranty nullifies Intel's reputation as the ONLY "reliable" SSD manufacturer.

5 out of 5 eggsReliable.

This review is from: Intel 530 Series SSDSC2BW120A4K5 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Retail

Pros: Reliable

Cons: price - performance is good but not great, there are much faster drives for a similar price.

Other Thoughts: When shopping for hard drives my priority is reliablity first with price/performance being an after thought. I've seen enough SSD's to know that intel #1 when it comes to SSD reliability and this is why they are my first choice.

5 out of 5 eggsGood quality SSD

This review is from: Intel 530 Series SSDSC2BW120A4K5 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Retail

Pros: Intel always has good quality products. I used to work at the plant that makes the memory for this stuff and they are solid. Intel only buys their high quality parts. Setup and install on new build was very easy, MB recognized the SSD right away and smooth install of windows 7

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: YAY Intel!!

5 out of 5 eggsWorking superbly in Mac mini (2011)

This review is from: Intel 530 Series SSDSC2BW120A4K5 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Retail

Pros: The 2011 (and later) Mac mini can hold a second 2.5-inch drive internally. Mine came with a 500GB hard drive, and I added this 120GB SSD.

I set up the two drives in a configuration Apple calls "Fusion Drive," a single logical volume. The total storage capacity of the merged volume is about 613GB. The Mac's OS intelligently "manages" the volume (as one unit) to store the most frequency accessed data on the SSD (and the rest on the hard drive). To me, it appears as one regular "disk."

After about one month in this setup, everything is working quite well. The SSD is obviously much faster in real-world use compared to the stock hard drive. I initially tested the SSD as a separate (internal drive) volume for a few weeks. After setting up the Fusion Drive config, it's been like having that same ultra-fast (but relatively small) SSD, with MUCH higher storage capacity.

This SSD "kit" comes with an adapter bracket for mounting a 2.5-inch drive in the space used by a larger 3.5-inch drive. Although I did not need one for a Mac mini, this was a nice surprise. I used it to mount a 2.5-inch hard drive in a 3.5-inch external drive enclosure.

The final "pro" is the very affordable price.

Cons: None. No problems to report.

4 out of 5 eggsCome on Intel

This review is from: Intel 530 Series SSDSC2BW120A4K5 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Retail

Pros: Easy to install
5 year warranty
Intel name

Cons: Intel Customer Support

Other Thoughts: Come on Intel. I just received a bright, shiny new SSD for Christmas. Just couldn't wait to get it installed. So I log onto the Intel website looking for the Cloning software, and - WHAT - PAGE NOT FOUND. So I chat (mostly wait) with Intel. Sorry, the website is undergoing maintenance. ON THE DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS. Sorry, all you bozos who have bright, shiny new SSD's to install. Check back later, it might be back up. So I downloaded Macrium Reflect, cloned my system drive, swapped drives, and am now up and running on my bright, shiny, new SSD. No thanks to Intel. Seems to be only a marginal gain in speed over my old WD Caviar Black w/ 32MB Cache. But time will tell.
