3 out of 5 eggsdo your homework

This review is from: Intel 730 Series SSDSC2BP240G4R5 2.5" 240GB SATA 6Gb/s MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: quality drive/ great warranty/ installation simple/ runs as it should

Cons: after deciding to take the plunge and re-do my os to an ssd...I didn't realize that if all im saving is 30 sec then what's the point..average boot time in a desktop setting was 33 sec... very disappointing, come to find out later that I should have chosen to buy an ssd drive base more on speed

Other Thoughts: if you're looking for a super fast SSD in a desktop setting this is not it..its a lot of work to rebuilt your os to just save 30 extra sec of Windows boot up time..I did another build with a mechanical drive that boot up in 44 sec...lol

5 out of 5 eggsMuch faster computers for little money

This review is from: Intel 730 Series SSDSC2BP240G4R5 2.5" 240GB SATA 6Gb/s MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Really speeds up my 4 year old asus p6x58 pro systems I built for my wife and myself. I had used WD 10000 rpm drives for the operating system, Win 7 Pro, and even with them, boot times were coffee break times. The SSDs improved the times to seconds instead of minutes. Bought them on sale in December. The Acronis cloning software supplied worked great. Keeping the WD hard drives for backup for now.

Cons: Only con is the instructions for cloning the old boot drive to the new SSD are a bit brief so it was to the internet for added information. No trouble with the cloning once I got more info.

Other Thoughts: Using the SSDs until Win 10 is up and functioning before I modify these computers with new hardware.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks great until you try to restart Win 8.1

This review is from: Intel 730 Series SSDSC2BP240G4R5 2.5" 240GB SATA 6Gb/s MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Drive's fast. Really fast. And I haven't lost any data while dealing with my restart issues which says something for its durability.

For clarity: I have not narrowed down the below problem to specifically the hard drive. It's either the OS, the Mobo, or the SSD.

Cons: I'm building a computer for my brother and I've had to upgrade from windows 7 to 8 to 8.1 in this build. 8.1 is good for his purposes as he intends to use this as an audio workstation. He wants the lighter OS and isn't concerned about the look/feel.

The problem we're running into is that every time we use the restart command from the windows 8.1 OS, the motherboard (ASRock z97 OCFormula) hangs on an A2 error which is a SATA drive error. The system can't boot. Power the system down, power on again? No problem. Shut the system down, power on? No problem. Hard reset? No problem.

Only on a software reset is this a problem. I've done every tweak in 8.1 I can think of, I've updated every driver for the mobo SATA controller, and it's running an intel z97 chipset for its SATA controller.

So... yeah. If I can fix the system interaction I'm being hammered with here, this drive is definitely as fast as claimed. I'm booting the system before the monitor turns on, and I haven't even started overclocking the cpu/ram.

TL:DR Don't use windows 8.1 with this drive. Windows 8.1 is (unsurprisingly) bad when trying to interact with it.

5 out of 5 eggsIntel reliability sells itself

This review is from: Intel 730 Series SSDSC2BP240G4R5 2.5" 240GB SATA 6Gb/s MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: SATA III very reliable Intel 730 series installed into a MSI 790FX-GD70 SATA II motherboard. Works very well for my intended use. Don't notice the loss of speed in real world applications, but do notice it's much quicker & faster with reboots & application loading - than the 500Gb Raptor it replaced. The price per Gb was finally too good to keep stalling on purchasing.

Cons: {Paid $110.00 for this on Thanksgiving sale) Had to con something.

I feel like I stole it! :-)

Other Thoughts: All major website reviews give this drive excellent ratings in reliability (my chief concern). Since I don't have a newer SATA III motherboard, I'm not too concerned about the supposed lack of cutting edge speed for this drive.
I wanted the 5 yr warranty and the peace of mind that it's not going to die on me in a year or two. No buyer's remorse whatsoever, here. It looks kind of nifty sitting in the external dock of the CM 690 II Advanced case. Skull makes me feel both invincible and kind of dumb at the same time.
