5 out of 5 eggsWould recommed to anyone

This review is from: Intel 730 Series SSDSC2BP480G4R5 2.5" 480GB SATA 6Gb/s MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Running six SSD's, two of them are the Intel 730 Series in RAID 0. I don't bother with all the tests for specific end result numbers. I just go with the performance which is stellar! Couldn't be happier.

Cons: None

4 out of 5 eggsGood

This review is from: Intel 730 Series SSDSC2BP480G4R5 2.5" 480GB SATA 6Gb/s MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: If you can get it for a good price its definitely a decent drive. I have 3 in my gaming server linked up with dual 290x and a 5820k. I will shamefully admit I bought them with a bias because the cool logo went pretty good with the rest of my rig. If you dont give a
shout about cosmetics buy a samsung. I have owned/used numerous sammy ssds and they just seem to outpace everything else. I know alot of people dont really relate computer parts with samsung, and for awhile I didnt myself, but take it from somebody who thinks benchmarking their hardware is a fun thing to do on the weekends, samsung memory kills it.

Cons: Priced (normally) on the higher end of the spectrum. Doesnt quite compare to some of its competitors in terms of raw speed. most notably copying large (5gb+) files and boot speeds.

Other Thoughts: If you dont mind sacrificing some speed for the sweet logo and intels reliability/warranty, this is a great drive. if you want raw speed go samsung.

3 out of 5 eggsMigration software PITA

This review is from: Intel 730 Series SSDSC2BP480G4R5 2.5" 480GB SATA 6Gb/s MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Drive works fine on modern Acer i3 W8.1 laptop. Came with hat my kid likes.

Cons: Migration software stinks

Other Thoughts: Included software would not recognize the drive. After wasting time trying myself and working with Intel support who recommend 3rd-party software, I finally figured out that the install has to be done with the SSD on the booted machine. I had to use a desktop machine (with the SSD installed) to get the Acronis software to create a boot disk from a download image. Once I had the boot CD and installed the SSD in the laptop with the old HD on USB, it worked fine. I didn't try the included CD - probably could have saved a few steps if you can boot off it.

I think the source of the problem is the Acronis software can't detect the presence of an Intel SSD on the USB. For probably some stupid license reason it refuses to run. It's amazing to me more people didn't have this problem. I suspect if you are adding this drive to a desktop on a SATA it will install fine.

5 out of 5 eggsEgg-cellent drive...

This review is from: Intel 730 Series SSDSC2BP480G4R5 2.5" 480GB SATA 6Gb/s MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: it's an SSD...it's FAST...it was a shell-shocker deal

Cons: it consumes a little more power...it won't wash and wax the car

Other Thoughts: haven't really noticed any speed change in my Alienware M17XR4, and considering that it is usually plugged in, haven't noticed any major power drain either even though it was designed for server and desktop usage. and for less than 210 bucks, I'm not complaining about anything

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome. Fast.

This review is from: Intel 730 Series SSDSC2BP480G4R5 2.5" 480GB SATA 6Gb/s MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Great price for a great SSD. This thing has tons of storage at blazing speeds. Windows 7 boots up super fast. Have had no issues. Very happy with the purchase.

Cons: There is a cool design on the SSD itself which you'll never get to see unless you have a very open/see-through case.

Other Thoughts: This is the SSD to get.

5 out of 5 eggsAlmost Outstanding!

This review is from: Intel 730 Series SSDSC2BP480G4R5 2.5" 480GB SATA 6Gb/s MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast.

Yes, it's FAST. It may not be the FASTEST. It may not hit #1 in Benchmark program X, Y, or Z, according to user L, M, N, O, or P, but the thing is FAST.

5 seconds...that is FIVE seconds to load Windows 7 Ultimate from the time I hit ENTER after typing in my password. No, that is NOT 5 seconds from a COLD BOOT, or RE-BOOT, that is simply not possible considering I load Steam, Origin, EVGA Precision 16, and a myriad of other services and/or programs when I fire up my PC. I'm a gamer first and foremost, and my PC is on practically 24/7, 365 days a year. I'm not into rebooting my PC 5, 10, or 50 times a day like some SSD owners. I'm in it for the long haul, playing games 5, 10, or 50 times a day instead!.

EVERYTHING is quicker, snappier, though maybe not as much as I had hoped. Battlefield 4 maps took anywhere from 1 to 2 minutes, some even longer to load using my mechanical WDC 1TB drives... now it's 30 to 45 seconds. Yes, 30 to 45 seconds, not 3 to 4 seconds, 30 to 45. That is still INCREDIBLY faster than when I had it running from mechanical drives. I'll take it. Especially at the $200 price tag I picked this drive up for. Any more than that, and those 5 eggs would be 4 or fewer.

I'm actually considering picking up a second one of these to run in RAID, for SPEED, not for redundancy or data safety... SPEED alone. Why? Because I already have TWO backups I run multiple times a week, one which clones my C: drive, the other that does incremental backups.

I would have jumped on the SSD bandwagon a long time ago had the price not outweighed the speed benefit. It looks like that ratio has finally hit a 'go for it' number. Mind you, it can definitely drop a LOT more (e.g. down to current mechanical $/MB range, but I'm realistic, and know that will be some time from now. $200 for ~500GB of SSD space... it's finally worth shelling out the dough for an SSD.

Super easy installation! I used a third party backup program to clone my C: drive, AOMEI Backupper, and was up and running in less than an hour with my Intel 730 Series SSD as my boot drive. So easy my kids could do it!

Cons: STILL not anywhere near as cheap as mechanical HDDs! But much closer than even 6 months ago! Keep bringing the price down, that's all I ask!

5 out of 5 eggsWhat can I say, but FAST !

This review is from: Intel 730 Series SSDSC2BP480G4R5 2.5" 480GB SATA 6Gb/s MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Easy installation and setup, follow the instructions from the downloadable software and it's a no-brainer. Total setup time was less than an hour and system now boots up in less than 15 seconds and programs open within a second or two.

Cons: Non so far.

Other Thoughts: Used this to upgrade my old general purpose desk-top. (Dual Core 2 8400 CPU, in an Intel DX38BT motherboard w/8 GB RAM, Win 7 64 bit) This was my first use of an SSD and I am thrilled. Cloning of the old C drive went extremely smooth and took less than an hour. Instructions were very easy to follow. Boot time significantly reduced, used to take close to a minute or more with considerable delay time to open programs. Now it's less than 15 seconds from entering my password to fully functional and programs open almost instantly. Very glad I did this and I'll be updating my video editing machine and laptops to SSD's later this year on price dips.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well and is blazing fast

This review is from: Intel 730 Series SSDSC2BP480G4R5 2.5" 480GB SATA 6Gb/s MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: If you want a solid state disk that will perform well, this is one that will. It worked flawlessly installing Windows 8.1 from a flash drive in UEFI mode. Booting and loading of applications from this drive happens incredibly fast. Also, the outer casing is all metal. In a world filled with plastic junk, that's a definite pro in my book.

Cons: The only con that I can give is that it doesn't come with a 3.5 to 2.5 adapter, but that was cheap enough to get.

Other Thoughts: I don't do bench marking and all of the things that people who are hard core about picking a product apart do, however, my system's performance has rocketed skyward thanks to this drive. Get it while it's on sale, because otherwise it's quite expensive.

I bought it mostly because my old Windows 8 configuration was on a disk formatted in MBR and my new UEFI system was requiring me to reboot immediately after starting from a cold boot (CPU-Z and such would freeze detecting the CPU and some other programs wouldn't run). I figured that while I was having to re-install anyway, it would make sense to re-install to a solid state disk.
