5 out of 5 eggsgood solid drive

This review is from: Toshiba Q Series HDTS225XZSTA 256GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: solid performance, no issues with BIOS detection on 5 years old ASUS Mobo. no hiccups installing and fine-tunig for win7.
Lightweight but I did not find it flimsy at all...

Cons: No bracket, no cloning software - but none advertized so not really a CON. still, they should become standard (just like the DVI/VGA adapters in your VC kit)

Other Thoughts: got it on sale for 125CAD - literally a steal - but for equal price I would choose the new SAMsungs.
Close to 50% of all OEMs SSD in Notebooks are made by Toshiba (that includes Apple and MSI) so they are established, just not strong on branding the consumer SSDs yet

5 out of 5 eggsSolid chice

This review is from: Toshiba Q Series HDTS225XZSTA 256GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: small/lightweight - absolutely no issues during install and optimization for win7. speedy and reliable so far - i guess time would tell

Cons: no 3.5 bracket included - but not really a con since none was advertized

Other Thoughts: could not go wrong for the price - got it on sale at $125CAD, but I would not have paid regular price while the new Samsung is priced similarly

5 out of 5 eggsA risk worth taking

This review is from: Toshiba Q Series HDTS225XZSTA 256GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: * Not sandforce
* Price (I paid $150)
* Excellent performance
* Enterprise-level quality
* Toshiba has good customer service
* Very low failure rates.
* Good reviews from tech websites.

Cons: * Could use a paint job
* No software from Toshiba to check drive health or update firmware. Yet....

Other Thoughts: I took a risk when buying this drive. There was very little info available about it and Toshiba is just starting to enter the consumer SSD market.

But, I read good things about the drive from the major tech websites and Toshiba has a good reputation in the enterprise market. Their products tend to be function-over-form, and they don't sell-out their name on junk products just to make a quick buck.

So, I rolled the dice and ended up a winner.
This SSD has performed flawlessly.

3 out of 5 eggsPromising

This review is from: Toshiba Q Series HDTS225XZSTA 256GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Lightning Fast and easy to install. Was quite impressed with speed and price

Cons: Musta got a bad one. Crashes every 4or 5 hours. When rebooting, shows there isn't even a partition present. Two boots later it is back. Time to send it back to Toshiba.

Other Thoughts: I set the alignment, set trim, everything you need to do to make sure this drive will function properly, and it does, for a few hours. Possibly a heat problem. Not good to have a heat problem when putting this in a laptop.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Drive

This review is from: Toshiba Q Series HDTS225XZSTA 256GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: For the Too Long; Didn't Read Crowd:
Zippy Drive that is suitable as a consumer grade primary drive. In my opinion, this is a better value at promotional pricing than the Samsung 840 pro, which admittedly offers better random 4k read/write and overall performance.

The main reason to get this drive is if you're upgrading from a traditional 7200rpm hard drive or from a really low capacity SSD and it hits the $150 sweet spot for 256gb. Toshiba is new to the SSD branding market, but they have been making NAND flash for a long time as an OEM for outfits like Apple and other SSD companies.

This drive is no slouch, but a drive like the Samsung 840 pro will offer more performance for a significant price premium in random 4k read/write environments. I say that because there isn't much in terms of promotional pricing for the 840 pro.

This is a great drive if you can get it at $150 or lower. Ignore complaints about flimsy connectors and build material. You're SUPPOSED to handle any SSD and equipment with care!

Cons: No 2.5 to 3.5 adapter bracket. No cloning software.

Height of the drive may be too big for installation into some slimmer notebooks.

Other Thoughts: I am a value-oriented performance PC builder and not an all-out performance builder.

Pros: - Decently large for Windows OS and a few games
