Toshiba's 2.5-inch (6.4 cm) solid state hybrid drives (SSHD) combine SSD-like performance with large HDD capacities. The 7.0mm MQ01ABFxxxH series provides 500GB or 320GB storage capacity.

The drives squeeze 8GB of NAND storage in a lightweight design which makes them ideal for high-performance and ultra-thin notebooks, as well as slim line and gaming PCs. Media transfer rates reach 1288MBps while noise levels stay exceptionally low - maximum seek noise is just 21dB.

All Toshiba SSHDs utilize self-learning algorithms that enable the drive to identify the user's access patterns, allowing frequently used data to be stored in the NAND cache making it quickly accessible to the host. Likewise, data that is used less often is moved from the NAND flash to the HDD for long term storage. This self-learning mechanism continues to develop throughout the lifespan of the drive, constantly improving the performance.

Toshiba is the only storage vendor that designs and develops both HDD and NAND flash technology, the core components of hybrid drive technology ensuring the highest quality and innovation.

1 out of 5 eggsShipped Wrong HDD

Pros: NONE IT NEVER SHOWED UP bought brand new SSD HDD Hybrid received 160GB WD re-certified..........

Cons: It never showed up ordered a 500GB Toshiba SSD HDD Hybrid. I received a 160GB WD Blue label refurbished hard drive???????? Shipped it back Tuesday morning UPS return label and it isn't arriving until next Monday 7 more days of waiting after waiting a week already and then I will have to wait some more for them to ship out the right hard drive I have a customer I had to use one of my own hard drives out of my personal use instead of making them wait 3 weeks for a hard drive.

Other Thoughts: I have no idea Newegg is usually right on but this time the ball was dropped big time big hassle terrible inconvenience ugh!!! I still don't have a hard drive...........

1 out of 5 eggsdeath clicking after 12.5 days!

Pros: it worked for 12.5 days.

sustained speeds of 50-80MB a second. was very happy!

better than standard mechanical drive in terms of performance.

Cons: it died 12.5 days later! death click, performance hitch, death click, performance hitch until it became a useless piece of doo doo.

it only had one game installed on it. it started with small performance hitches; a distinct audible clicking sound followed by a temporary freeze upon game launch and then it would resume anticipated operation after an audible spin up sound like as though it was resuming from standby.

upon further use of this drive the music ingame began cutting in and out followed by an audible clicking sound coming from the drive which would freeze my game for a few moments and then the drive would spin back up to resume anticipated operation temporarily to then repeating the same issue.

it became more frequent to the point where it was absolutely undesirable and impossible to ignore. the rage was real to the point where I could no longer tolerate it and had to get this thing out of my computer before it made me lose my mind. I didnt want to RMA it but it was very insisting.

Other Thoughts: it arrived without a box inside an antistatic bag that was inside an inflated air baggie that was inside of an undamaged shipping box. it was well protected, no big deal.. it arrived on time as specified.

RMA'd the drive for a refund. I will be ordering a Seagate SSHD from newegg to replace this drive with.

maybe you will get lucky to have one last you longer than this one lasted me...

2 out of 5 eggsStrongly Consider

Pros: Well its a hybrid SSHD and very cheap, i paid 49 bucks on discount for it

Cons: Ok. I am RMAing this drive its all sorts of wonkey. I cannot keep the computer stable with this drive installed. I was getting random data loss. Very difficult to troubleshoot the problems i was experiencing. Finally after frustration I put the old 5400 RPM hdd back inside and everything cleared up. I suggest you spend your money on a seagate. I have been running one in my other laptop for several years with no issues at all. Hey but you may get lucky and get a good one.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid this drive and vendor

Pros: None: my drive was DOA. Service was inaccessible. I believe the warranty terms were misrepresented at time of purchase.

Cons: Despite indications of this page, Toshiba now claims the warranty is one not two years. I installed and tested the drive about a year after receipt -- it was nonfunctional DOA.

Other Thoughts: Toshiba's service was bottom of class. This starts with Its website which gives no clear link to warranty support for its hard drive products. Finally reaching Toshiba service at barely 13 months after receipt of the drive I was given the runaround demanding drive photograph and proof of purchase before providing a link to their OEM warranty and referring me back to that site. The website informed me that the product was barely one month out of warranty The manufacturer has declined to provide an RMA: "Cezar" "Toshiba Acclaim Admin" told me that they set warranty terms because their drives are not "invincible."

Apparently Toshiba not even want to know why their products are prematurely failing by examining defective parts returned through RMA More seriously they seem to be telling their customers that their warranties indicate maximum lifetime for a product.

Cons: Cheap - it died within 90 days.

Other Thoughts: Go SSD. It's better and SSDs last longer.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for older systems still running Windows XP

Pros: I purchased 3 of these from a local vendor. The older systems I put them into are still running Windows XP. Performance improvement was very noticeable on these systems, and I don't have to deal with issues of alignment that SSDs have on XP. Great cost savings compared to my normally installing an Intel or Samsung SSD for TRIM support.

Cons: I don't trust UPS for delivering hard drives

Other Thoughts: I will post again if there are any issues with the drives, but 3 months, and they're still performing well.

These are very tiny drives and have to be packaged well. That's why I purchased them from a local vendor, since I don't trust how UPS delivers packages.

1 out of 5 eggsScary bad SSHD. Go with something else.

Pros: SSHD should in theory help windows boot faster at some point(s).

Cons: Don't do it! I have had three of the four of these I bought fail terribly. Lost tons of data, on less than 3 months. :( Strongly recommend the XT instead.

Other Thoughts: Smart is disabled out of box, because?
