Watch a SanDisk SSD outperform a 7200 RPM hard drive

Sequential Read Speeds of up to 490 MB/s

The SanDisk SSD offers sequential read speeds of up to 490 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 350 MB/s**. Compared to a traditional 7,200 RPM hard drive, it offers much faster bootup and load times1.

SanDisk Extreme SSD
Easy Upgrade Defers Computer Replacement Costs

The SanDisk SSD is a drop-in replacement for any 2.5-inch hard drive. Swapping your current drive with this SSD is an easy way to boost performance and defer computer replacement costs.

Extend Laptop Battery Life

Because it has no spinning platters, the SanDisk SSD stays cool and quiet during use. It also draws less power than a traditional hard drive to prolong your laptop's battery life--an added bonus for mobile laptop users.

Durable and Long Lasting

With no moving parts, the SanDisk SSD endures shocks and vibrations better than traditional spinning-platter hard drives. It is rated at 3 million hours mean time before failure2 (MTBF), making it a smart long-term investment.

System Requirements and Warranty Information

The SanDisk SSD uses the SATA 6 Gb/s standard connection and is backward compatible with SATA 3 Gb/s and SATA 1.5 Gb/s. It measures 0.37 by 3.95 by 2.75 inches (H x W x D) and works with any computer that has a 2.5-inch hard drive.

The SanDisk Solid State Drive is backed by a three-year limited warranty3.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good, using SATA II

Pros: Quiet, fast, as you were expecting.

Cons: I can't think of any so far.

Other Thoughts: My motherboard is SATA II so I only get about 211 MB/s read. Still it does much better than a mechanical hard drive. Windows 7 installed in 15 minutes, boots in around 10 seconds after the BIOS is done. Windows 7 rates it at 6.9.

The biggest difference I noticed is just the speed at which the little things happen. Opening a browser, looking through folders, opening a settings dialog, are all instant now where before it took a second for each of those things to happen. I had no idea I was waiting so often for my computer.

It is evident that my processor is now part of the bottleneck when loading some games (It can't decompress data as fast as the hard drive can load). I didn't expect that would be a factor in game loading time.

I'm nervous about it's longevity but the speed is very nice. I look forward to when I get a SATA III motherboard and can see it's full speed.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes what I need

Pros: Got a deal on this and put it in my laptop 4 months ago and it's still working great. My startup times are very fast and it has been reliable. I'm dual-booting with Windows 7 and Linux and I have enough space for both OS with all my programs and documents. I keep my video and music media on external hdd though, so it works out for me but I can see others wanting more space for their needs.

Cons: Haven't had any problems thus far.

4 out of 5 eggsProcess hangups.

Pros: Cheaper, good brand. Reads/writes fast.

Cons: Certain processes (Task Manager and Windows Security pop ups) occasoinally freeze and takes a fair amount of time to load. Very noticable but only worth 1-2 eggs.

Other Thoughts: I probably got a defective part however it isn't enough of an issue to warrant an RMA.

1 out of 5 eggsDied After Six Months

Pros: It was fast while it worked.

Cons: Died and took my data with it. I know I should have backed it up, but I thought SSDs were supposed to be durable.

Other Thoughts: We'll see how SanDisk handles their warranty. Will update upon response. Still won't bring the data.

5 out of 5 eggsIt works

Pros: It works, installed my OS and about 8 of my programs on it and they all run quite smooth and quick. I came from what is now my backup hard drive (a 5400rpm 1tb) and while it is faster load times and all that its really only a couple of seconds. I don't notice certain things lagging and my computer seems to just run smoother in general. And while it does speed things up its definitely not worth $.90+/- a GB.

Cons: The price is ridiculous for the mostly minimal performance upgrades.

4 out of 5 eggsNice Drive

Pros: This drive is does exactly what SanDisk advertises. It's not the greatest on the bench marks, but SanDisk is targeting price not extreme performance with this SSD. It plugged right into my home desktop and took Win 7 performance rating for the primary hard drive from 5.5 (WD Caviar) to 7.1. Unless you are a power using, it's hard to notice performance improvement once you get over 7.

Cons: I took one egg away because SanDisk doesn't provide any "real" software. The so called SanDisk SSD Toolkit only reads status. It doesn't do anything. SanDisk - you are one of the Bigs. You can do better.

Other Thoughts: If you are just going to plug an SSD into a laptop or a family desktop, this SSD is great for the your $$. Maybe SanDisk will provide tools in the Toolkit sooner than later.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Sounded great, was a decent price and everything

Cons: This SDD does not work or show up on any of my computers, even if I use it internally or externally. The item doesn't even show up in partitioning recovery programs I have, thus this drive is dead out of the box.

Other Thoughts: I first tried to get this thing to work on my server, would have been great as an OS drive. windows stayed at 0% for installing files for hours. So I pulled the drive and put it in an external drive reader device, (Note this device even reads dead drives or infected drives). It did not show up, installed it into another external reader, did not show up, tried using partitioning recovery software.. the drive is still not here.. it is dead on arrival.

5 out of 5 eggsFast

Pros: First off, I don't run benchmark software, so this review will just be from the point of view for the average user. This SSD is very fast coming from a regular HDD. Boots Windows 7 in about 12 seconds. Programs open in a blink of the eye and I have not run into any problems whatsoever.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: Was easy to install and it's light. VERY light. I would recommend this to anyone.

5 out of 5 eggsUnreal

Pros: You need to experience speed like this on a computer. it saves you so much time. I'm running Windows 7 ultimate 32-bit and Flight Simulator X and everything boots up in 10 secs even if you have a SATA 2 motherboard. I used Paragon HDD to SSD migration software to get the job done going from HDD to SSD. I highly recommend it.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Very fast, and 128GB. Plenty of speed and space. just make sure you buy a 2.5" to 3.5" bracket.
