1 out of 5 eggsSandisk Fail

Pros: Very fast, nice device.

Cons: If was aware of the issue Sandisk was having with their media I would have steered towards another brand. Imaging pc's via usb was my intent, here is note to Sandisk CS:
I intended to use this device solely for pc imaging. I cannot do that due to the Fixed Disk configuration of the device. I would like to exchange for an updated drive with the Removable Disk configuration.
And Sandisk's response:
Thanks for emailing SanDisk Technical Support. It is our goal to make sure you have all the resources you need to get the most from your product.
I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you. As per your email I would like to inform you that, In mid-2013 SanDisk changed production of Cruzer USB Drives to show up as fixed disk to meet a requirement for Windows 8 certification. At the end of 2013, SanDisk reverted back to producing Cruzer USB Drives as removable disk. There is no tool available to change SanDisk Cruzer USB Drives between fixed and removable disk configuration. SanDisk Cruzer USB Drives in removable disk configuration will be available again shortly in retail outlets.
Unfortunately, SanDisk Technical support has no way to identify by the packaging or reseller stock whether the drive will show up as fixed or removable disk.

In other words, sorry our product isn't working as intended, now go away.
Buyer beware. If you just need a device to transfer and store data, great product. If you need a device to boot from, keep looking.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Customer Service

Pros: I would just like to give a positive shout-out to SanDisk.

In March of 2013 I purchased three of the SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 flash drives (a 16 gig, a 32 gig, and a 64 gig). Additionally, I have previously owned perhaps a dozen various SanDisk USB 2.0 drives and had never experienced a failure.

Just over two weeks ago, the thumb slide on my 16 gig Extreme began to not lock in place. When I pushed it forward to extend the USB connector, the connector would "auto-retract" when I tried to plug it into a USB port (I was able to hold it in the forward position and plug it in long enough to allow me to copy the data off of it).

I emailed SanDisk customer service and attached a copy of my receipt. Within twelve hours I received a prepaid return authorization for exchange. I sent it off the next day and received a brand new replacement within ten days. In the interim, I received four emails from SanDisk updating me on the replacement process (defective received, processing, replacement sent, tracking number).

Irrespective of how good a company's products are, there are bound to be failures now and then. When that happens, customer service distinguishes the excellent companies from the mediocre. Some companies make their warranty/exchange process so difficult that I have simply tossed their product into the trash. But not SanDisk.

Thanks SanDisk.

(The drive comes formatted for FAT32 but I immediately reformatted it to NTSF with no problems. I am also running Windows 7 Home Premium and have experienced no problems with the new replacement drive working with that OS.)

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsFastest

Pros: Fastest drive I've seen. When inserted into a USB port, the drive is fully seated and stays in place.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: High price but it's the fastest flash drive available. So, you get what you pay for.

5 out of 5 eggsWow!

Pros: By far the fastest USB thumb drive I have ever owned (and I've owned quite a few). Very impressed by the performance. I'm even getting a higher write speed than advertised, at 61MB/s! (Tested with CrystalDiskMark).

Cons: Not really a con, and not about to knock an egg off, but, I am unable to format the drive as exFAT. When I right-click and hit Format, it only gives me the options of NTFS, and FAT32. I prefer exFAT, since it is the fastest format type out of those. No biggie, though.

Other Thoughts: Came across a Tom's Hardware article where they tested 31 USB 3.0 thumb drives a few months ago, and out of all 31 drives, this one was recommended out of all of them. I can see why!

4 out of 5 eggsDid what it was supposed to

Pros: - Lots of storage, still good for the price
- Extremely fast on the USB 3.0 interface
- Really nice and solid switch, doesn't rely on tension like cheaper drives. Instead it actually has a little locking mechanism that keeps it in place

Cons: Came loaded with some bloatware-ish stuff.

Other Thoughts: Came loaded with encryption software, but it was pretty iffy since it would leave a whole bunch of processes running on the computer that unlocked it. Just seemed way too much to go through, so I just formatted all the stuff off of it and used BItlocker mobile; which worked much more smoothly.

I lost the drive after about a month and a half (I really need to keep it on one key-chain next time.), so I can't really attest to it's lifespan.

3 out of 5 eggsLiked it when it worked.

Pros: Fast and plenty of space.

Cons: Failed after first use, I plugged it into my usb 3.0 port and wouldn't run at rated speed.

Other Thoughts: It was nice while it lasted, but it didn't last very disappointing.
