5 out of 5 eggsWindows 8 Boots Faster

Pros: Bought to make my personal Windows 8.1 PC boot & run faster. It does what it was bought for!

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: SSD prices could come down faster!

1 out of 5 eggsA nuisance

Pros: Easy to install

Cons: Filling up the SSD causes windows to hang during startup. Clearing your cache is required to remove the startup delay. Significantly reducing the cache size seems to be the only available solution.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Pretty quick... Thin form factor.

Cons: 32GB.

Other Thoughts: Great, as it was free with the purchase of a bookshelf PC.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat budget addition to any rig

Pros: I have a typical 7200rpm hd that I wanted to speed up boot times and load times of my games and commonly used programs, it did just that, software and installation was also super easy, very user/beginner friendly.

Cons: N/A

4 out of 5 eggsIf you have an old HDD...

Pros: I bought this for an old WD Caviar SE 500GB with an 8MB buffer cache. I knew that I needed something to boost this old hard drive for gaming and loading Windows a little faster.

I am fairly impressed with it so far. The software that SanDisk uses with this SSD is pretty good, but I think it could be a little better. You can opt to disable/enable caching, which is good in case you are going to be defragging your hard drive, or doing a lot of downloading and what not. You can also choose to turn off at Windows startup so the ExpressCache window doesn't pop up all the time. At first this confused me because I thought that would also disable cache, but I was wrong on that. It will only stop caching when you tell it to. There is also a clear cache option in case you would like a fresh start. When the SSD is filled up, it automatically clears itself and restarts the caching process.

Windows does not see the SSD as an optional drive to examine in Computer, which is awesome because you don't have to worry about someone messing up what is cached on it.

Cons: I do not care much for the housing at it is cheap plastic, but SSDs don't create much heat and there are no moving parts. The plastic is tough enough that you don't feel like you are going to break it.

The ExpressCache software could be a little more customizable, or at least have a help menu that actually works. Every time I try to open help, it tells me that it failed to load. I wish there was a few more options in the settings, especially one to always show the notification icon (that way I can tell if I have it disabled or not). If you turn off Windows startup in the software, the SSD still caches but the notification icon won't be there. You have to open the software window in order to get the notification to appear in the tray.

This does NOT help with boot times until you get past the black Windows loading screen with the colored orbs (Windows 7). This is a downside because it take forever for my hard drive to get Windows going.

Last thing, If you have a lot of large programs like games or Photoshop, you will find that it has to clear the cache a lot and start over. I wish they would have had a 64GB model for better caching memory.

Other Thoughts: Overall, this is great if you have an older hard drive and don't have the cash (pun intended) to spend on a new hard drive. Despite the cons, I do notice that it helps out a lot in the long run and would recommend this to someone that wants and SSD on a budget.

5 out of 5 eggsEasiest Way to Get SSD Speed

Pros: Connect the drive, install one piece of software, and restart your computer - that's it !

No need to install Windows, no need to "clone" anything. It just works.

Cons: You still have to install this in your computer case, but that's so easy compared to all the extra steps needed with a standard SSD install.

Other Thoughts: I've installed two of these for friends. Their computers start up much faster, and everything - internet, games, MS Office, Photoshop, etc. - opens faster. One guy described the effect as turbo-charged.

5 out of 5 eggsImpressive Performance

Pros: Easy install, noticeably performance improvement.

Cons: Doesn't bake bacon.

Other Thoughts: I used this in a system build for a client. He didn't want to deal with having an SSD and HD in his system, so I decided to add this drive. He gets the speedy boot times while seeing only one drive.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Surprisingly Well

Pros: Definitely speeds up the boot and shut down times. Very simple installation of the drive and software. Works as advertized in Windows 7.

Cons: Doesn't bake cookies.

Other Thoughts: This was for a client who had a good budget for his system but didn't want to deal with two drives. Both he and I are impressed with the performance. Here is the build:

Corsair Obsidian 350D
Corsair CX500M PS
Corsair AF140 and AF120 Purple LED fans
Intel Core i3 4340
ASRock H81M-HDS
Kingston HyperX 8GB DDR3 1600
Asus Blu-Ray/DVD-R
SanDisk ReadyCache 32GB SSD
Western Digital Blue 1TB
